Would be nice to see and update on how it held up, what would have done different, anything you regret and maybe how it is compared to your other keyboards maybe? And would have been really happy if you linked everything you used to make the keyboard so we could get the products and sizes . Btw love your channel, keep going budz:)

You sir did a good job on that Drop alt high profile keyboard. A lot of enthusiasts give this board the donkey dung just because of the high price and integrated top plate design. I personally think it's still a viable option to this day because it's well built and with proper modifications this boards can go toe to toe against the most expensive options in terms of sound quality, rigidity, function and looks . Props to you for recommending this board over others despite its short comings.

Planning on modding my low-pro Drop Alt next week. Ordered some milky top gat yellows, Durock plate mount stabs, 67g Durock gold springs, switch film, Krytox 205g0 and stab foam stickers (vs band aids). Never knew about stupidfish foam until this vid as I was going to go by Lowe's and buy a sheet of it to cut into shape, but I'm sold on it after that sound test and ordered their Alt kit. All I'm missing now is some dielectric grease for the stabs and I'm hoping to have a completely different keyboard soon! Also coming from some secondhand-bought, unlubed Zealios V2. Was debating whether to throw them in my Keychon, but think I will go a different route on that board with (new) tactile switches that haven't had their legs clipped. GREAT VID!!!

suposedly you can repair / mod the stock ALT stabs with some bandaid / medical tape, a clip job, and lube. I just ordered a prebuilt Drop ALT with Kiahua blue switches off ebay (standard low case). If the switches and stabs are at least useable enough that I can type error free, I won't rush into moding it. I have a feeling even the Drop 'junky' stabs are better than what DELL puts on it's keebs! BTW, I LIKE clicky switches, but the hollow sound isn't music to my ears. I love the results. This is exactly what i plan on doing with my Drop Ctrl keyboard when it arrives. Quick question for you, I have my keyboard coming with Kailhua Speed Silver (Linear) switches. Will I be able to achieve similar results with these switches or should I start looking at replacing them? Thanks again for the great video!

@@StupidBulletsTech I want to achieve that level of silence on my keyboard. I'm just getting into this hobby now, so I have no idea which switches will work best. All I know is as a gamer, I think* I prefer linear switches for that smooth, click free , fast response time.

Hi very informative vid. Question, I have a Hypyerx alloy origins full size keyboard with aqua switches. Do you know if it's possible to mod the stabs and insert foam?
@StupidBulletsTech
@StupidBulletsTech 3 жыл бұрын
You can mod the stabs on just about any board, here is a video on how to do it without disassemble kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o9mne6uFzsjGp6c.html As for foam, if you are comfortable and careful then yes on foam, although for that board you will most likely have to cut your own. Be very careful taking it apart as sometimes connections are not apparent. I hope this helps.

This is amazing, I just purchased this keyboard, They must've fixed the stabilizers, with cherry browns it sounds pretty good, but the spacebar definitely bugs me. Does the foam just make everything quieter? This is my first REAL keyboard that's customizable. I like the sound of it, but that first clip you showed with that thock sounded amazing. That's exactly what i want. It's a little intimidating, but i take computers apart and put them back together for a living, so i think i can handle it. What would you recommend for a little more thock out of my cherry browns? I'm not opposed to swapping them, mostly just want to fix the spacebar. But the foam sounds like a good idea. Gateron black ink v2's are my dream, those sound amazing.

The stabs are good as any other after you lube them. I just spent $10 on a tool set with some china lube and now the keyboard parallels the best I've ever used. You really don't need to buy anything to make most mechanical keyboards perfect as long as the frame is solid and has the features you need.

I’m glad you like the one you have. Remember, that video was made several years ago, and the stabs were awful. It was pretty well documented. I even had a convo with the drop folks last year at a meet who recognized me from that vid haha, they have upgraded them considerably since then. Since then I’ve built many dozens of boards, and it is far from “the best” but I kept mine as it was my first fancy one :) Now we have amazing keyboards for a fraction of what they cost 3-5 years ago.

I recently got a low profile Alt and am considering modding it somewhat to remove ping. However, I've never modded before, so I was thinking of just adding foam. Adding the case foam is clearly very easy, as I just have to remove the bottom cover, but what about plate foam? Is that something I, as a beginner, could do with minimal risk to my keyboard?

I think it's more fair for a "fixing the drop alt" video idea by simply just modding the stabs, adding foam and lubing the switches to reduce the variables of the comparison between stock and modded. Nonetheless, good video
