The stabs are good as any other after you lube them. I just spent $10 on a tool set with some china lube and now the keyboard parallels the best I've ever used. You really don't need to buy anything to make most mechanical keyboards perfect as long as the frame is solid and has the features you need.
@StupidBulletsTech2 күн бұрын
I’m glad you like the one you have. Remember, that video was made several years ago, and the stabs were awful. It was pretty well documented. I even had a convo with the drop folks last year at a meet who recognized me from that vid haha, they have upgraded them considerably since then. Since then I’ve built many dozens of boards, and it is far from “the best” but I kept mine as it was my first fancy one :) Now we have amazing keyboards for a fraction of what they cost 3-5 years ago.

I got one of these second hand and it powers on and like 95% of keys work perfectly the 5678 and like the n and couple others do not where would you start on diagnosing what the issue could be thanks
@StupidBulletsTech10 ай бұрын
I would pull those switches and replace or swap positions. After that you will need to take it apart to examine the pcb for damage if the issue was not switches.

suposedly you can repair / mod the stock ALT stabs with some bandaid / medical tape, a clip job, and lube. I just ordered a prebuilt Drop ALT with Kiahua blue switches off ebay (standard low case). If the switches and stabs are at least useable enough that I can type error free, I won't rush into moding it. I have a feeling even the Drop 'junky' stabs are better than what DELL puts on it's keebs! BTW, I LIKE clicky switches, but the hollow sound isn't music to my ears. So I might check out that foam kit.

I've notice not a single lube station seems to have the ability to hold box style stems (outemu, gateron, etc). Box style meaning it has the dust cover that also is supposed to help stabilize key wobble better. They just have the cross MX stem opening. The only one I've seen that actually can is an aluminum CNC model. The design to allow both is extremely simply so I'm really shocked they haven't adopted it in these cheaper models after YEARS.

Not sure if your set is different or if your mic just didn't pick it up, but I find that the Ceruleans have a key leaf ping sound that heavily affects the experience that some may find as a dealbreaker.

Just found this video and cannot emphasize enough the impact that the foam has on the sound and the feel of the keyboard. Its a totally different typing experience and I couldn't be happier!

My friend spilled soda all over her Drop Alt and was literally going to throw it in the trash, so it became my very first mechanical keyboard. Now after 6 hours of deep-cleaning I have a free keyboard AND a new addiction But really, the vid was so informative and entertaining that I had to comment to show some love, and I can't wait for the stabilizers to come in, and maybe some hearing aids too,

This is amazing, I just purchased this keyboard, They must've fixed the stabilizers, with cherry browns it sounds pretty good, but the spacebar definitely bugs me. Does the foam just make everything quieter? This is my first REAL keyboard that's customizable. I like the sound of it, but that first clip you showed with that thock sounded amazing. That's exactly what i want. It's a little intimidating, but i take computers apart and put them back together for a living, so i think i can handle it. What would you recommend for a little more thock out of my cherry browns? I'm not opposed to swapping them, mostly just want to fix the spacebar. But the foam sounds like a good idea. Gateron black ink v2's are my dream, those sound amazing.

@@StupidBulletsTech Awesome, i'll check them out. The stock browns are pretty close, i like them, just a little hollow and rattley. Just ordered the foam and the lube, probably can't make it much worse, its worth a shot! Then i'll put some new switches in if i don't like the outcome!

I can't believe people still use QWERTY non-ortholinear non-split non-programmable keyboards. It's not 1897 guys, much, much better keyboard types exist that are much better for ergonomics, typing speed, portability and computing efficiency - and they don't even take that long to learn, they feel so much better. eg Corne. Staggered QWERTY was literally invented to slow down users of typewriters in the century before last. Tenting should also be high at the front, not the back, and ideally split and high in the middle too.

Cerulean sounds the best but I would go for Aliaz Silent or Dark Amber for tactile sound.

Awesome video. But can I suggest getting some plastic spudgers for 9:13? It's not safe to use metal tools to separate plastic pieces, you want to use something softer than the plastic parts you're working with.

I love the results. This is exactly what i plan on doing with my Drop Ctrl keyboard when it arrives. Quick question for you, I have my keyboard coming with Kailhua Speed Silver (Linear) switches. Will I be able to achieve similar results with these switches or should I start looking at replacing them? Thanks again for the great video!
