How to fix the power switch on a Dyson DC65 Vacuum Cleaner

My vacuum power switch was stuck in the ON position forcing me to unplug it to turn it off. I decided to open the power switch assembly to fix it myself. This is also how you would replace the power switch if you needed to.
There is a spring that goes with the wishbone that I didn't discover until after recording this video. Remember when all the parts went flying?

Mine lost power today, but the roller would turn on, independently of the vacuum motor. I could tell the button felt mushy. You just saved me a BUNCH of money, THANK YOU!!!!

Fixed mine today with your video. The button worked for the floor header, but the button for the vacuum didn't work. Reseated everything, and bam, good as new. I wasn't about to spend another $400+ for another one. This one is only 8 years old.

Thanks for this! My Dyson was actually refusing to turn OFF (annoying!) but I took it apart following your guidance, managed NOT to lose the spring, reset the wishbone thingy, and now it's working right again : )

Thank you so much for making this video. When I took the switch off the wishbone piece and a spring fell out. I can't figure out where the spring come from but I reassembled it just like you showed without the spring and it works great lol.

I'm pretty sure that the middle switchlike device is the circuit breaker for the roller brush motor, it is there for protection. Also the spring that "flew away" can be replaced easily with a spring from a ballpoint pen. Dyson makes a good product but the guys that designed the switch area hopefully have learned a lot since.

Those things are really expensive and it breaks I thought Dyson was stronger anyway u did a good job fixing it

Have a different model but the principles of removing the switch was the same. Thanks for the tutorial, a quick spray of switch cleaner and its back to switching on or off with a single press.

His had a spring as well. You can hear it fly away as he pulls the housing away from the unit.

There should be a little spring in the small rectangle next to the wishbone.

I would agree. Who knows where my spring flew when I took it apart. However, I can say that the vacuum has worked flawlessly ever since and I guess you don’t need the spring.

I think you may have to do this video again mate, because some people wont read the comments and like other spring loaded mechanisms, the spring.may just disappear for them too. Just a thought as it's kinda inaccurate. And... I lost my spring too. But retro fitted another.
