The first method to troubleshoot the error is to use Windows “Error Checking” tool. This way you can easily format the hard drive and regain its access. However, it’s worth noting that if you use the “Error Checking” tool, you’ll lose the entire data on the hard drive. So, only use this method if your hard drive doesn’t have any valuable files. Besides, when it comes to fixing a RAW hard drive, many people also recommend using the “Convert” command in Command Prompt. This command is designed to help users convert the file format of a hard drive to different formats such as NTFS/FAT32. The best part with this method is that it doesn’t formats the hard drive to convert the file format system. However, there is no assurance this command will work 100%. It may or may not work, but it is worth giving a try. Well, since “Convert” won’t work, the only possible solution would be to format the hard drive and manually change its format to NTFS or FAT32. before converting RAW to NTFS/FAT32 by formatting the hard drive, it would be a good strategy to recover all your files from the hard drive so that you don’t have to deal with valuable data loss. Here you can use a professional data recovery tool such as Wondershare Recoverit. That's all possible solutions you can try to fix the file system is RAW. @@doomtoob Not really, no. Your best bet is finding a free data recovery software or one that offers free trials. The market is very saturated though and companies are not offering free services due to high demand. If your files weren’t that important, just move on and learn from this. Start backing up ALL important files unto multiple storages.

Irresponsible and dangerous advice that is nothing but an advert designed to get you into more trouble and in need of the paid software! I imagine everyone who has clicked 'like' did so before they followed the advice! Always work on a clone! Never format your damaged hard drive unless it's empty or has no data you want on it, especially if you're not using fast format!

Non of this is working for me, Windows can´t complete formating, disk management gives out CRC-Error, MiniTool Partition Wizard doesn´t let me do anything with that drive and even in Windows installation I can´t delete and recreate that drive. It happened when my StraightPower failed right after warrenty (yes, it was a 2008 series which got world wide fame for bad caps) and it was laying around for years. Would I have any chance recovering the drive using Linux?

My USB drive issue is: Write protected. Cannot formated because is write protected. In Registry Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies WriteProtect value 0" the drive is still write protected. The status in "online", "Current read only" , "the file type is RAW" so windows is unable to check the drive. F/r/x doesnt work. DiskPart has encountered an error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. So what else can I do?

I just bought a Toshiba Canvio 2TB online and formatted it to NTFS, it worked well for hours until it crashed. I went to the online store to read more about the product. It is said that it only supports exFAT format and never to be reformattes to NTFS.. Now I am having problem to revert it back to exFAT, cause I can't anymore access the drive itself. It shows up on the computer but when you try to open it, it only says "There is no disk...." I tried the Chkdsk, device manager and windows troubleshooter.. None worked. Has anyone experienced this kind of thing too? need your help please..

This title is misleading I think. My USB has the error of Raw files but all my attempts fail because they are RAW!! So... How come all these suggestions fail precisely because of the initial error.

Hi, really need some help, i dont care about saving the files inside I just wanna save the SD. Currently it's in raw format, I cannot format it, ive tried windows, GUI formatter, SD Card formatter, nothing works. Had a perfectly working internal m.2 drive in NTFS. Came home to a crashed game and the drive doing all sorts of weird things. Checkdisk won't work, says I need more privileges, and then running as admin gives the RAW error, even though Computer Management still shows the disk formatted as NTFS. So not the usual scenario. Pretty glad I hadn't mirrored my primary on to this drive yet and pretty pissed at WD right now.

@@LethaR_YT It just fixed itself with a few reboots. It did it once more after I wrote that comment and then hasn't since, so who the heck knows what was going on with it. I also had all sorts of issues with a new vid card that ended up fixing themselves just with what seemed like new drivers a LONG time after the card was released, so I think these days it might just be crappy driver support. Sorry I can't be of more help, hope you figure it out!

I have the same thing going on with my WD ssd. There is no fix other than to maybe try re-formatting anyways or just get a different ssd. I don't get how there are files and directories which cannot be opened because 'a device which does not exist was specified' while upon the same drive I can load and play games. Meanwhile chkdsk says its in RAW format which means I shouldn't even be able to browse files at all while Disk Manager says everything is hunkydory.

I can't format the corrupted partition or do any thing to solve this issue I try to take actions like in the video and when it asks to format and I give permission the PC crashs and restart it self, tried too many ways and still same problem.. Any other solutions please?

My ReFS drive turned RAW after a windows reistallation and chkdsk doesn't work on ReFS drives. I don't want to pay for your software either.

Hi there, using the chkdsk command, I tried to fix my external HDD but It displayed the file system type (NTFS), however, the chkdsk process was aborted and a message pops out saying "the first NTFS boot sector is corrupt or unreadable". It tries to read the second sector, but again, states that it's unable to determine its volume and state. Hence, I still CAN NOT access my data. Any help ???

i am so sad to have lost access to my extrenal drive. It seems to be RAW files(dont know how that happened.I downloaded Recoverit and chose my Dics but after a while I got an error message saying "Disk (J:) disconnected, reconnect and re-scan.Does the problem still occur? Click here" :'((( Of course my disc is not disconnected and the bad thing is that if I right-click on it, I have NO assess to it AT ALL. Please, please, please help me.

The drive with the RAW file does not appear under the Volume List. It does appear below (as a box) with a disk number and size, but it will not let me format it. When I left click properties in explorer, it says the drive has 0. I get cyclic redundancy error when trying command prompts, in addition to the RAW error.

I have tried your idea and a few others and what I'm talking about is a ScanDisk Cruiser USB 16GB thumb drive. I have two of them and I may have erased everything such that it can't work or it's just too old. There's nothing on it (well, that being quite literal), it was just laying around and I was only going to use it as a recovery stick. I also had an 8GB flash that I did successfully repair, so it was not that I hadn't tried it before and I think I tried everything. I hate letting go of old stuff if it works, but I think since they can be replaced so cheap now it was an exercise in learning. I probably paid $45 when they were new and they're probably $8 now. Thanks again for the info and the response!

None of these worked for me I bought a new sd card and couldn’t format it all without it saying that it’s raw which obviously because it’s new , but then I tried to formatt it on my chromebook and it worked ! If anyone is having trouble formatting your new sd card maybe try finding another device to do it on!

Tried all the suggestions and still no joy. The drive isn't physically damaged however when I was copying a file from an iMac to the USB thumb drive the process got stuck and I had to force quit the transfer. Somewhere in that the file system got damaged and now seems to be reporting Bad Sectors.

Connect the drive, open Disk Utility, select the drive from the list, click the First Aid button, and then click Run to start the repair process. If Disk Utility is unable to repair the drive, you may need to reformat the drive and restore it from a backup. If you do not have a backup, you can use our data recovery tool Recoverit to attempt to recover your files. Keep in mind that bad sectors may indicate a failing hard drive, and you may need to replace the drive to prevent further data loss.

I'm stuck with a RAW SD Card from 8GB big, that can't be formatted nor can't be chkdsk-ed in Windows 10. Converting didn't help, diskpart didn't help, defragging didn't help, formatting via a 3rd party software gave me 99% and an error "Format failed". Seems like the CD card is corrupt to the bone!

So here's my problem,, i just bought a new sd card and i also already format it into internal storage but, when i tried to move some apps it's just a few apps that has 'move to sd card' option,,,and when i tried to move other files such as photos, videos, music, etc my file manager couldn't detect that there's a sd card in it,,,also there's a folder that named 'sdcard' but the inside of it just the same exact as internal storage files and when i delete some photos in that 'sdcard' folder, the photos in the internal storage is gone,,,i have so many questions,,, please help me, thank you

Is it possible to restore a partition that was previously showing as RAW and is now showing as unformatted on an SSD? But I need to keep the data intact on that partition as it's for an xbox that won't work without that raw partition being present

hi i have a total new SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB i used in my drone to write the flights with my dji air unit and goggles......i was watching normaly all the videos till suddenly the drive was not detectable at all.....after using partition in dos it became a RAW 30mb and it dont allow me to format it with ANY WAY...I TRIED CMD I TRIED YOUR PROGRAM AND ANOTHER SIMILAR 10-15 PROGRAMS but nothing at all....it remains a RAW 30b....in CMD it dont allow format too after selecting disk clean etc etc etc ....shows an error that there is no enough usable space or something like that......i tried everything....is the sd card dead i guess???

5:48 Adding to solution: In case the disk is not present in the upper list you can find it in the lower list. In his case where it says Disk 1. Right-click the grey area and select "Format". Then the rest should be the same.

I tried method 2. Convert is not available for RAW drives. Wondershare Recoverit doesn't found any files. I also tried other software like EaseUS Data Recovery and R-Studio. Nothing helps. :(

There seems to be a bug with chkdsk in Windows 7. I have a USB stick that was formatted by a CCTV DVR, chkdsk fails with RAW error, but selecting properties -> tools-> error-checking correctly recognizes it as FAT32, and can check & scan the drive. Weird!

Hi there, thank you for your question. If your 128GB pen drive is only showing as 121MB in capacity, it's possible that the drive has some issues with its partition or file system. You can try the following steps to resolve this problem: Use Disk Management: Press Win + X and choose "Disk Management." In Disk Management, locate your USB drive. It might have unallocated space. Right-click on the unallocated space and select "New Simple Volume." Follow the wizard to create a new partition with the full 128GB capacity. Check for Hidden Partitions: Sometimes, pen drives have hidden partitions that occupy a portion of the drive's capacity. Use a tool like "DiskPart" in the Command Prompt to clean and repartition the drive: Open Command Prompt as an administrator. Type diskpart and press Enter. Type list disk and press Enter to see a list of available disks. Identify your 128GB pen drive and note its disk number. Type select disk X (replace X with your disk number) and press Enter. Type clean and press Enter to remove all partitions. Type create partition primary and press Enter. Type format fs=ntfs quick (or format fs=fat32 quick if you prefer) and press Enter. Once the format is complete, you should have the full capacity available.

i am sure i am not the only one but before win 10 i never had a hd go raw but since win ten it went raw on usb ssd and hdrives i just formatted a hd to ntfs (not quick) all went ok i went to fridge for a pop then went to copy some files to the drive it said needs to be formatted but when i went to format is said it could not perform action went to win management storage it said the drive is raw i managed to format again and so far ok like i said before win 10 i never ever had this problem only on win 10 and not only 1 computer it happens on several machines and no there was no power interruptions or anything else win 10 just all of a sudden for no reason decided to make the drives raw

Hi, My D drive is of 1Tb and its showing RAW in disk managment Getting error while opening drive is like '' The parameter is incorrect". Im also unable to format the disk drive, getting error like "Windows was unable to complete the formatting" is there any proper solution to resolve this issue, because im unable to use my 1 TB D drive from last week.

Problem is that I want to recover all the data of my pen drive, and your methods require the disk formatation. How could I recover all my files on the disk. Tks a lot.

Hi there, thank you for your question! Generally, if you force unplug your SD card, USB, external hard drive or any other removable device quite frequently without using Safely Remove option, the partition table of the device will get corrupted and turn to RAW which is unreadable by Windows. And there you might get the disk formatting error message: "You need to format the disk in drive X before using it. However, this is not the only reason that can lead to the disk formatting error. There are other reasons, for example virus attack, corrupted Master Boot Record, partition loss, bad sectors, some computer file system corruption and more. But sorry that Recoverit software does not support to fix these errors, but Recoverit can help you recover files from inaccessible drive after you can format your external storage device. Even after formatting the data, the software cannot be 100% guaranteed to recover your data successfully.

Is this software completely free? I have a total of 12gb data stored in my corrupted usb. I tried different softwares but didn't work for me because I had to pay for them. I'm a student and I couldn't possibly afford to purchase them.

I also tried method 2 and 3. It just won't let me format my card. Its currently in raw and I use it on my Samsung phone.. I go to format it and switch it to any of the formats and it won't work. Any help I appreciate. I've got nothing on I just want to use the sd card so I can have more storage because currently everything is on my internal and my phone is super slow :/

To use this, you need to open the Windows PowerShell as an administrator and type the following command: Repair-Volume -DriveLetter D -OfflineScanAndFix (Replace D with the letter of your disk). This will scan and fix your disk offline. After the repair is complete, restart your PC and check if the error is resolved. For anyone reading this: I believe this is caused by HDD damage - the HDD software identifies too many bad sectors, basically your hdd is gone, and it changes it to raw format and read-only to protect the data. Your HDD is gone nothing more to do. Mine is 4 tb 95% full.. and I can`t retrieve anything.....

Hi there, Scanning bad sector on USB drive not completed... Every time 70% was scanned and suddenly "Wondershare Reoverit app" shut down.(70% scan complete == Recover-app shut down). Can you please let me know why this happen? Main error is: "Please insert a disk in USB drive" Through CMD errors: error1: CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives. error2: CONVERT is not available for RAW drives. When try to clean: DiskPart has encountered an error: The device is not ready. See the System Event Log for more information. Formatting USB is not working in direct or CMD way . I already tried all the options that I watched on KZfaq. If anyone know any other/best solution to format a USB please let me know. Thanks

the last method they give you is their own program that you have to pay at least 60 dollars a month just to recover some files that I wasn't even looking for, that's why in the video they don't show you what happens when you press recover they just hover over it and move on. L promo and you didnt even show me the mp4 game footage files I needed and tried to charge me for it.

When i put in a USB adapter it works just fine and shows FAT32. Put it back in the native SD card reader, RAW.

Didn’t help I’m trying to fix a damaged D drive (not external) and I can’t afford to pay the rent or buy food so I’m lost it’s being treated as a raw drive -it kept going missing then I found a way to reveal hidden and damaged files/drives and now I’m stuck

Hi there, thank you for your question! Did you try Restore system to a previous point? Try rescan disks in Disk Management otherwise it might be an issue with that drive itself and u might need to take it to a professional.

@@RecoveritDataRecoverySoftware tried all the above nothing worked now my pc runs slower than ever -no virus or storage issues or many background running apps. Think I’ll have to take it to a professional so maybe I can afford to do that in about 3 yrs I hope. I guess pc’s are designed to fail to make you continue spending money I guess it’s purposely done like this… Shame as it need it to help me find a job. Thanks for the reply
