So I went on a mission today! I wanted to finally fix this annoying android auto bluetooth phone call bug that i had been having with ford sync 3. the issue is that i can not accept calls from people. they could not hear me and i could not hear them. i would then have to call them back and it was supper annoying. the bug only popped up with sync 3 when plugged in to android auto. as it turns out the fix for this bug was extremely simple. the car i am using is a 2016 ford focus st and a pixel 4 xl running android 11.

The ringtone change never sticks though. I'll change it and next day the ringtone is back to Ford sync ringtone.

Lifesaver!! This is so dumb (sync)!! I've been fighting it since 2016. Intermittently it would work, but mostly I'd get the dead call. Initial tests are good, so I hope it becomes a nonissue going forward. Thank you!

DUDE! I had that same problem on my 2019 Ford Truck. After EVERY FREAKING PHONE UPDATE IT WILL DEFAULT BACK TO SYCN RINGTONE. You are correct, just change it to PHONE RING TONE - DONE! But, you don't have to disconnect the phone (at least I don't). HOW FREAKING WILD IS THIS? You would think that by the number of years with this problem they would fix it. NOPE!

OMG, I love you so much!!! I've dealt with this for YEARS. So frustrating, especially when trying to use Google navigation. I've just been turning the Bluetooth off on the phone for incoming calls, but then the phone is no longer hands free. I can't wait to try this.

Just found this video and the fix worked for me. You saved me from having to sell my truck or a divorce. Wife was pissed every time she would call me if would have to call her back. Such a stupid issue that neither Ford or Google can't fix.

You are a complete life save, I don't how many times I have done a master reset and the I had to go through the dauntless task of reactivating my ford app and what have you. A simple stupid setting, and ford won't tell you that because you have to pay 150 to upgrade the software. Which in turn still didn't fix the bug issue. I will share this video

On my SYNC it was not the ringtone but the privacy setting button on the radio button selection. I still give you a million thanks and a like because your video gave me all the perfect steps and guides to accidentally press the privacy button and now everything works like brand spankin new

I've been using this fix for about a year, but it keeps going back to ringtone 1. I'm going to update to sync 3.4 after work, does that make the ringtone setting stay, or does it still keep going back?

It goes back to ringtone 1 anytime you start the car with the phone plugged in already. If we could get a fix to THAT I would be happy.

My problem has not been receiving calls, but making them with Sync. The first call worked fine. The second call was hit or miss. I could see the screen suggesting that the call was going through, but no audio; the radio kept playing . I will try this on my way home, hopefully it will clear up my problem as well. Thansk!

This has been driving me crazy for a long time. Got rid of my Samsung because I thought it was the problem. Got the Pixel 6 Pro and the issue still exists (Love the Pixel 6 Pro!). Will change the setting at lunch and hopefully it is finally solved. Thank you.

Also disabled Google voice driving mode under settings. That and the ring tone were both battling for the control I guess. Disabling them both is what made it work.

Thanks for the solution. Mine is Ecosport 2018 and in ringtone settings it did not have phone ringtone option. However when i de selected all other options it defaulted it to phone ringtone and that solved my issue

Not an Android Auto issue, but when I start my truck Sync connects to my phone, can take phone calls and everything but I have to go into connect Bluetooth audio manually to play music EVERY time I start my truck. Very frustrating. My phone says it's set up for Phone, Audio, Messages, and Contacts. Anything I'm missing for this to happen automatically?

for me its completely different. i get a call, i can hear them i do the call, hang up and then the music i just listen too is going through my phone not the car speaker . so i have to unplug, and now even worse cause i have android auto wireless, i have to stop my car and restart it to get audio through my car again. man i am freaking out .

Hi, thanks for the trick. Will try on my Sync 3.0 if I can. Regarding the bug/issue, I think this is related with how Sync 3 handles the audio, between Android Auto and Bluetooth. Even if you pick up from Android Auto, Sync 3 own bluetooth takes the lead on audio ! I've found this with an experiment : using my phone with Android Auto (Waze), made a Skype call with family. No sound was audible. Then my fiancée decided to switch to phone on Sync3 - then we were then able to ear family !

this worked for me. but now i use the AA wireless android auto dongle, and the Sync ringtone 1 automatically sets its self each time the phone disconnects/connects.
