I’ve learned enough about mechanical systems and their not so obvious intricacies to know when I’m listening to someone who has had fingers deep into something at the same time he was observing and questioning and able to learn from each experience as he trudged the road to broad expertise. This guy has been there, without a doubt, and offers a huge amount of information in this video. Thank you kind sir. Respect.

Awesome video ! Exactly what I was looking for. Wife's office AC wasn't working well - compressor would start and stop within a few minutes, fan would run, compressor would kick in again, would stop well before temperature had dropped, etc. Air wasn't very cold either. Thought it was pressure - but when I opened up the unit, the condensor was completely clogged except for about 3sq in ! No wonder the compressor was burning hot. Tks for all the tips and tricks for troubleshooting !

I have a 72 Kenmore 10k window a/c. Never repaired until last year. And the only thing it needed was a new cap. Now I'm 50yrs old and it's been in the family since new. Used every year and this sucker cools off a 3 bedroom townhouse no problem.

I appreciate that help on educating us on the windows units. I have a large Fedders air conditioner which I am sure don't need recharging and wasn't used that much since purchasing it new. One day I got ready to turn it on after it had been idle all Winter the unit was not blowing air like it did previously. I assume the fan is not blowing either because the blower is not turning. I thank you for the information and I hope to be getting one of the four units working again. I am sure two of them, and maybe three are out of coolant.

hi david i,m basically new to the ac system, but i,m getting there, i,ve found a winchaser portable ac system, i did plugge it in, and comprerssor would get really hot and shutt of by it self, so cut both lines from compressor, drain the oil and rinse it few times with pag 46 refrigerant oil for r134a didi that few times, braze lines back, change the filter drier with a 134a one throw a 134 refrigerant charge, so far have 5 months working the ac system cooling really good and compressor warm

Great video. It's been my experience on all refrigeration units, not to charge through the evaporator (suction) line. The risk of slugging is too high. Instead, one almost always wants to charge (introduce refrigerant) through the liquid line (post condenser coil). I know this to be true on split systems, is it not also the case with window units?
@mattquinn7675
@mattquinn7675 3 жыл бұрын
So you’re saying to charge refrigeration units “post condenser”? As in, add the charge port on the liquid line in front or before the condenser? Just to be clear just asking?

The low pressure side it should be (64-67 ) Psig while the ac unit running on .... so you talking about R22 ( fereon) tight.......cuz at that Low pressure ( 64 -67 ) the saturation temp above 32 (32 freezing point) ..... I have a question plz. What should to be the low pressure on gauge for R134a for ac unit window and refrigerator ( fridge). Thank you for explanation on your video.

Hey there, I have a quick question about window AC repair. There was a wadding of a putty of some type blocking off the hole (that wires run through) between the main large compartment of the unit, and the smaller electrical compartment with the circuit board for the control knobs. This putty/wadding was removed (long story). I wanted to replace this to be able to use the unit safely. Do you know what this material is (plumber's putty?) and tips for replacing it?

Hello. I have fairly new air conditioner. I brought last year. It's 6000 btu. It works. But then after a few really hot days, it gives out. I have turn it off for day. But then works perfectly well. It does cools but at it's highest. What cause it ti tap out after warm day of 80-90 temperature outside? Meaning it's hotter inside. Is the thermostat sensor? What do think I should. It's cheap one.It' well made mostly all metal. But why should stop cooling at all? I brought a 5000 btu at kmart. It was real cheap junk. Everyone took it back. But why does tap out? Aren't acs supposed work.

I have a whirlpool window unit 14000 BTU with a touch pad. I went in there & the power button was red which is off but I did not cut it off. It will stop when it reaches a set temperature but never cuts off. I did not have a surge protector on that outlet & a tenant plugged in a charger that had a broken wire into same outlet. That was last time this unit worked. I hit reset on cord & all buttons will light up but goes back to power off. What next?

How's your knowledge on portable air conditioners ? I have a AMCOR PLM13000E portable that I have to keep adding water to the tray where it pulls the water up and into the coils. I have to do this just about every 45 minutes. I had taken the front face off the unit so as to siphon the water over flow instead of moving the thing and spilling the water on the carpet. If it wasn't for this reason then I would have never of been able to add the water now. The weird thing is the unit used to have excess water in the over flow tray but as of lately the second portion, where the pump sends it up the tube and into the coils, goes dry. Any suggestions ?

zeke112964 my air conditioner is a portable unit not a window unit. In the bottom there's a area where the condensation collects so as to be drained at a later date. On my unit the water will collect and then it gets pumped up through a manifold to cool the coils back down. The problem is the the water collected is either not enough and the pump just keeps running or it goes into over heat protection and shuts down. That's my problem with the unit, it shuts down from over heating so I took the face off and thought I could just add water to the condensation tray and that would fix it BUT nooooooo it still sucks up all the water to cool the coils and then shuts down. When this unit works correctly it's extremely cold but unfortunately more times than not it's shutting off. Please take a look at the model (AMCOR PLM13000E) and you'll see what I'm talking about. Thanks for your time.

sears...grainger...frigidair site but actually there are 2 sensors...one is the temp senor and the other is the ambient air sensor...most of the time the fail because someone inadvertantly got water on them...its bad business to use a water hose or any other water source that has too much pressure on a digital unit and when the thirmistors get wet..its a wrap...i reconmend a garden sprayer for cleaning window units and my little secret i use is gunk engine cleaner on the evaporator and condensor coils and clean from the inside spraying outward....use a shop vac on the inside if you can but before cleaning definetly want to wrap the digital display and motherboards or printed circuits because just one drop of water laying on 2 or more conductors will fry it...after cleaning i suggest using air to blow out any excess water/debris

I do know that the compressor gets very hot while running.... Some areas are covered with insulation to prevent the heat from transferring into the frame...You either have a wire melting someplace inside or that insulation has broken down and started to burn. Either way youll have to look inside the unit to see what is going on.

I do not believe freon can burn a hole in the Atmosphere. That is Crazy.
@roytee3127
@roytee3127 6 жыл бұрын
Freon doesn't burn a hole in the atmosphere. In the upper atmosphere, the UV light breaks apart the Freon molecule, and the chlorine part reacts with ozone (O3) molecules and breaks them apart. Ozone shelds the Earth from the worst ultraviolet radiation from the sun. With less ozone in the atmosphere, more ultraviolet radiation gets through to the ground and causes all sorts of havoc by affecting chemicals in plants and animals. Look it up; it's easy to find. Of course, if you don't believe in ultraviolet light or chemistry it will all just seem like a hoax.

To be fair he's going out of his way to help. I mean I know nothing about this. I'm the sort of guy that can fix computers but I don't think I really know how to change my oil, shamefully enough. Considering how frustrated I am with my a/c I could use the good humor of some language. He can make his language choices and I'm still grateful that I'm learning and those that don't like it can find another person on here: they are all giving up their time and effort for free! It's very kind of them.
