Amazing, I love people like this who are just so into it, and we are just along for the ride it makes it feel less like a class, and more like an experience.

Thanks for your great videos. I've been watching these all year in preparation for deer season. Just fleshed my first hide and have it soaking now. Thanks to your videos the whole process went according to plan.

Greetings! This is an amazing video and I tried my hand at this using a fleshing board and I don’t think I was applying enough pressure because I ended up creating a bald spot on the hair side. It was my first time so I’ll keep trying and being more aware of the hide moving. Thank you for an amazing tutorial

Maybe at this point I’ll watch your videos on removing the hair for the one I just did. It’s salting and drying at the moment

Do you have a video/photo showing your fleshing beam? I’m going to DIY one made of PVC, but most tutorials show making the top a point. Yours looks to be left whole and held up with a tripod system, which I think I’d like.

I know this is an old video but I was wondering how the hide is affected after a week of warm temps. I have one that smells a bit but was defleshed. Is it still worth tanning out?

Natalie, I just found your videos. I am 63 and have always wanted to tan hides. I am around Deer Hunter in my family. And have always thought it was such a waste of the hides when they threw them away. I didn't really know what I was doing. So Sunday when I got the hide it still had some meat and fat and stuff on it. I am worried I have ruined it already because I salted it and spent 6 hours yesterday trying to get the stuff off with the wrong tools. Today I am getting a fleshing tool. Last night when I was done and could hardly move my hands anymore. I salted it again and put it in the freezer. Have I ruined it ? i am keeping the hair on. So what is your advice ? I hope you see this. Thanks I think you are an amazing woman and only wish I would have started earlier in life. But My motto I guess you'd say is "I am never to old to learn" Much Love Chris Hamilton

@@billobrien4761 The prep work to fleshing is skinning. You asked if there was prep work before fleshing, I answered. Not trying to be a smart ass but skinning is the prep work. You skin the animal, lay out the skin or stretch it, then flesh it. Fleshing is the second step in the process, skinning is the first. Well I guess obtaining the skin is actually the first.

@@billobrien4761 I felsh my skins right when I take them off. Thats easier for me. However, if you have to freeze it for later use then yes, youll want to soak it in water until its soft again and you can work it.
