Im using some sbr in the mix it can make it harder to finish as its stickeyer very sticky compared to just mortar mix and water proffers , Dude I am glad that you can take some things from the videos even if it just some ideas that can be tweaked to suit yourself means our videos are helping :):) As always more to come :):)

Yes some of the house i seen in Spain i liked but some was just to rough for me LOL do like a smooth wall but texture sure dose have its place also it seems also big in the US also I thinks its due to the hot weather it must make it easier to finish and possibly crack less with heat

as long as the offcut has a soft pile you can rub up but you must use a light touch ,just like a sponge

Atm if I'm being honest I prefer skimming but am liking rendering more n more. I'm still learning, not qualified. Been labouring for plasterers for ages. Sick of earning chump change so the last year or so bought the tools n learning. I can only get better buddy 🤛🤜. And watching your vids n others can pick up huge beneficial tips. Thanks again mate

@@johnny545 Morning buddy Loads of great trowel out now , I do love my Refina premium , but dont use it for floating anymore I keep it just for skimming , I would normally have 2 trowels one for skimming and one for floating witch i will be breaking in for skimming , but lots of trowels out at the min refina tyzack ragni and marshalltown also they all have rendering trowels now and superlfex trowels for finishing I think this is the one I tend to use the most for skimming = amzn.to/2O8Lrug that links is an affiliate but as you can see they are priced well , if you get time look over the channel you will see how long I have had it , it was unboxed a long time ago , one the reasons I do unboxings to help me date how long the tools last :) Sorry for the massive reply :)

Hi mate for sure keeping it open at the bottoms is a must, and i must admit sometimes its hard to wait haha and want to get it smashed out and away sometimes you know yourself the bottoms just about rub in wet but other times can be a nightmare

@@macplastering ya sometimes we just cant help ourself by trying to finish it asap but i sure can backfire as u said mainly the bottoms and when working into a stop bead or rules its harder again.i always try fill them out as much as possible in the scratch coat so its that bit less of dept on the finish coat

Normally would do a step in or bell for dash or a nice big base / plynth but on this one i match the front and side so have to stick with whats there not sure you see the painted side at the corner LOL

on bigger jobs I team up with other plasterers but this is just 1 wall :) yes hot sunny days put the pressure on big time

Washed plastering sand is best it real nice to work with got sand in for the wall I built its very red and is pretty sharp more like paving sand than plastering sand luck i aint got to the top coat yet but will go for a better plastering sand myself such as bagged washed plastering sand Hope this is helpfully buddy

Haha thats true I would like to try make a wooden one up to try out for fun LOL but these can last a decent time if looked after and nice and light easy broke in so float well I found that if you let them kinda get dirty almost let the cement burn into them some they last a little longer sounds crazy as every other tool im like clean clean clean but I have let my flats get a nice stain of cement on them more so the back and it seems to make them more hard wearing might just be me though Thanks for watching buddy :)

Water proffer int he previous mix to slow down more on suction and plasticiser in the render mix will slow down the setting time and give good workable but to much is bad and can lead to cracking and failing render

Can be hard to know with out seeing it Render dose have a slight texture i think i have another video on finishung render with up close shoots in it but it might just be how tge other guy leaves his work

I need to make myself a nice wood one this one is a polyurethane float they are super nice to work with light and break in fast, Thanks for the comment Kenny brother :)

Dont think there was a dpc in this mate and garage might be lower than outside at back if memory is right and i have seen loads of new builds stright to ground but in my own house i will be doing a plinth again think about them over the dcp but thicker and sloped at top keep an eye for newer videos you might like them making bellcast and setting beads at dpc will be right up your street mart mate

I wouldn't use as much lime I know some guys do but things work diffrent for diffrent plasterers , this one is simply 4 to 1

I would if it was drying mate it all depends how well the gear is drying it will determine when i go at mate

Oh nice one mate we have a few on rendering but as you will see the are mostly the same ratios on just block , some ones on how to get it straight before its finished

You want 5 and rising buddy temperature you certainly dont want it freezing as it could blow off / crack or just not set / cure for you to finish it well you can use frost proffer to speed setting time up :) Hope this helps mate will try and get a video out on it in the coming weeks

Thanks for the reply, I am going to paint it, I initially was going using Dulux weathershield but now I'm wondering if there is a textured option that would help mask it also, Mrs is quite particular on the colour though hence going with the weather shield, she chose a colour from there, large patches would maybe look better than the shotgun look it has currently haha and yeah depends on the sun's direction and strength so during the winter it wasn't so noticable but as we are getting a bit of sun now it's driving me nuts

@@spazpecker Only reason i ask on the sun was sometimes even then best work will look bad for an hour or so when it is being hit across by the sun, you could try sand scrap back all the high areas but getting it neat again will be very hard as it will open up the render and youll have to chose on how to re fill them areas and getting something to bond well would also be a problem. so your main issues would be scrap down get it level then refilling and making it stay on then how to refill and make it look good These would be hard but if you where to say give it a go on an area not seen as much like a test area , I would do this actually use a small half block or brick something that is abrasive or a grinder with attachment if your good with it and its safe , So start on any waves lines marks lumps that are proud and rub them back its going to be sore on the arms. so say you go the whole wall done any real heavy holes that say apparel you could try fill with a wet mix of 4 to 1 or 5 to 1 with sbr in the mix also painting it on the dusty surface to seal it after you dust or wash it down. I would trowel it smooth then using a sponge or sponge float providing these is not much depth to the render being applies rub it smooth paying real attention to the edges to avoid it looking like a mess getting them flush feathering to nothing this will be your real challenge. So you have the whole wall filled but it now looks a little patchy probably diffrent colours but hopefully after the hours hard work put in it is a much better shape , it at this point might look o painted all one colour but if you think it would need a little more you could make a 5 to 1 slurry coat with sbr mixed in loads of sbr and basically sponge wash the whole wall witch again might help blend in the bad areas fill small holes and will dry out the same colour. I wouldn't relay recommend this as it would be a lot of work and work that might not pay of for you mate but if you did test an area to see if it was going to help heal it or make it worse do it in as blind a place possible ,making render stick to smooth render is very hard why i say use sbr as its a bonding agent and very strong , but make sure to wash every thing down as you go and cover up everything you dont want ruined it wont set for like 12 hours but dont let it set to anything you dont want it to set to such as tools sponges buckets , around your windows glass room gutters drain pipes dont let it in any drains it will block them , I know you know this but its good to have a reminder The other option is to chip all of go again or like you said use a highbuild product that has a texture to hide it highbuild is trowelled on then hit with a roller to texture the walls sometimes things like this can relay hide cracks and ugly but sometimes ts also just putting ugly on ugly so again test in a small area out of sight and see if you like result when wet it could still be scrapped back of. sorry for this massive amount of words I gave you to not just read but climb over hope in them you found something useful and helpful

Mapeii do a thin coat acrylic render that is easy to apply and scratch flat . I believe from memory that it has minimal depth of 3_5 mm and max of 10-15mm. I have used it and found the results are good.and I am a DIYer ....

Its a polly here then sometimes a powerfloat also sometimes use my refina diamond float i think its called

Thats a real good one man I would say if any the tool companies read your comment they will be trying to find a nicer edge on a new float ready to finish render :) but yes to answer you mate you can use sand paper or if you have find sand paper you could use a block to rub corners down some then tidy it up with sand paper , I love my float I used here but you want to see it now it well worn in almost for the bin tbh and I will be in same boat as yourself trying to get one broke in nice loads of floating :):)

mac plastering I’ve a few garden walls to do and my old well broken in float, was robbed from a job a while ago. I have a newish one, used it couple of times before it just not that same. I have rubbed in the corners a bit with sandpaper like you said. Thought you might have know some Indian trick I might not have heard off. Anyhow such is life. I’ll carry on regardless. 😀

@@phils3631 Haha not thing better than just filing it down or the long hard way grinding it on sand and cement lol , if you know any guys do floor screeding lend it to them be ready in a week lol I know the feeling mate a new float is so bad for finished render it digs in way to much also i find you almost need to let the gear go off than much more than with an old broken in float you can get onto it sooner and across the wall faster , im still tearing away with the power flat trying to get better with it and i am getting better with every wall getting the hang of it and find you can near let the wall set solid and it gets it in all the same

mac plastering. While I have your attention, where did you pick up scup, hard to come by down south here in Wicklow/Dublin areas. I’ve been using a scudder for scoping out of tubs. A lot of bending up and down. Anything that makes life easier, you know yourself.

Didn't need to scud coat no suction in wall and plentey of grip on the blocks but have scud coat videos on the channel showing why im doing it there also have sbr in this mix again more videis on sbr aswell mate

I rather rub it when its ready dont like wetting as it stains it no difference if painted but looks better

Hi bud hows things , some guys like it in both some lie it in top coat only others in scratch coat , all about what works for the applicator I guess , Lime burns 10 times worse than cement if I was to use it , it would only be a little per mix some guys like 1 to 1 to 3,... 1 to 1 to 4

@@ljones396 Oh mate dont get me wrong I have done it in top coat on walls that are going to be always hit by water trying to do it over kill strength and waterproof but it can be a pain to finish .

Think i have skimmed and binded and skimmed over it but never rendered over it, from what i rememer it dried super fast in me no matter hiw much prep i did

1st time I ever worked over it I was like ok whats this , it was in a fire place guy wanted it to be fireproof so used it on the whole inside, so i looked at it and thought will need pvaing as it was the smooth side out also needed bonding as screws where not in and if you put them in more would just bust the sheet, so i got the pva went to get water ready for mixing came back and pva was bone dry so i pva it again get mix done and again pva was dry at this pint i know this is a nightmare so put pure pva witch still pulled in super fast and was able to get my bonding on it and beads stuck but no jokes it still set in 20 mins ready for the skim so yes I pva the bonding also and my skim was fully finished in around 40 mins , seems like real hard gear to work with did a bathroom with same stuff also was a nightmare had to do 1 wall at a time as it was drying so fast, sbr might be a good call to prime it but I haven't do that , If i ever come across it again will recorded my battles with it , Thanks for the support buddy its much appreciated. :)

@@macplastering Wow, ok, good to know I'm not the only one who sees this as a PIA. Next time I see somebody rendering it I'll find out what the secret is ;) Primed with an acrylic primer used for tiling adhesives etc. Should suit this. Got another wall done, but super slow and not convinced the bond is great. Would be awesome if you did a video when you next come across it. Not finding much on line about it.
