Stop with the bullshit the poodle was shivering couse it was cold all of the small breeds shiver like crazy couse , one : they get cold easily and and second they get nervous and scared easily . Woman is doing a good job and it's a good video for basic grooming
@SuperHanne847 жыл бұрын
So you are saying that because a small dog gets cold or scared easily, then it is okay to make it cold or scared... I dont get your logic.
@robinjohnson76727 жыл бұрын
so if your kid doesn't like brushing his teeth you'll tell him to skip it? Small dogs get cold fast and we groomers are moving all over the place and we get hot very fast so we do tend to keep our grooming rooms cooler. Some of the small dogs don't care for the sound of the dryer so some will shake for that, but honestly shivering is all science-- the body shivers to create warmth-- it's as simple as that. My "shakers" stop shaking within three minutes of beginning to be dried whether I use a stand dryer or a forced air dryer. Also, forced air dryers will take a minute to get warm, so pre-warm your forced air dryer if you want warm air from the get-go. :) hope that helps!

Robin Johnson ikr , people bring up kids like you can compare human to dog , yes we love our dogs like our kids but kids don't have fur around them 😂 and they can wash themselves but if you don't brush you're poodle and wash them their terribly tangled hair would do them much more harm then couple of moments during grooming

It always amazes me when a video such as this comes out. The amount of experts who probably can't groom their own dogs, have no understanding of what it takes to groom different breeds of dog, feel they have the knowledge to comment. If youre that knowledgeable put up a video and show us how its done.

People that don't have dogs that must be groomed on a regular basis - stop bashing the groomer! You have no idea what you're talking about. Dogs that have a continuous hair growth need to be groomed, otherwise their hair gets matted and thick and is really unpleasant and unhealthy! These dogs have been groomed many times and are used to the process. The little girl in the video is shaking because she's cold - just like you get cold after you hop out of your bathtub or shower. Research the facts before you judge!

@Brigette Keating But this same lady did come out with another video about never using scissors to cut mats out of a cats fur! My cat had some mats and I was using some scissors to get them out..Until I saw her video.. And she was right a scissors can get very close to the skin..And cut the skin! (Now I was lucky it didn't for me or my cat! Cut I mean! But was very glad for the good advice!) So I then opted for a mat and detangling brush and it works much,much better! So she does have some good advice! Wish I did appreciate very much!

My Standard Poodle shakes when he knows he is going for a bath. He also shakes when he sees the bag of cotton balls, he knows I'm going to clean his ears. If I worried about him shaking, his ears would be full of muck, his hair would be matted and he would smell. Once I start washing or cleaning him he stops shaking. He is looking for sympathy in my opinion, because he is never hurt in anyway and when he is clean and clipped he is real excited, he knows he is going to get more hugs. By the way, I pull the hair out of his ears, being a Poodle the hair doesn't stop growing. If anyone has an issue with that, don't get a Poodle.

Just wanted to offer my own experience with a poodle. My girl is a very pampered dog. She is allowed on every furniture. She even sleeps under the covers with me. She shivers easily after baths and sometimes even does it when she wants attention. I use the same kind of brush to dry her and yes, its a scratchy one and trust me your dog will let you know if you use it directly or harshly on the skin. Brushing quickly the coat only with this kind of brush is very effective and actually not hard at all. My dog loves baths and getting groomed and heat of the blow dryer. She doesn't like the air flowing as much tho

For everyone complaining that the dog is cold, literally that's why we blow dry them. Any groomer worth their salt know how much pressure to use so you're brushing the HAIR not the skin. Would all of you rather your dog sit in a kennel for hours soaking wet and cold at a groomer? Literally ya'll have no idea. I'd much rather blow dry a dog at least MOSTLY dry so they dont sit and get cold. Yes, dryers can be loud. A lot of groomers will put cotton balls in the dogs ears as they're blow drying like earplugs so it's not too loud. And even then it's hardly louder than a vacuum cleaner.
@tierneyread3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate this video! If an area gets too dry while you are working on other areas, do you re-dampen / mist it with a continuous spray of plain water before fluff drying that spot? Or do you use a brushing spray (like The Stuff) on that dry area?
@pattywirth25182 жыл бұрын
I would only use water, but if you do a once over with a high velocity dryer it is usually the right amount of even dampness. DO THE EARS LAST. I usually start on the back end and avoid blowing air on parts you are not drying.

I know afghan hounds are very sensitive to pain so I'm curious to know if you've ever groomed them and what precautions do you take that is different than other dogs.
@pattywirth25186 жыл бұрын
Well I have groomed them hundreds of times and I would say they are more prima donas than "pain sensitive". Each dog has it's own personality and some are stoic and some are babies. IF you work quick, nails, clean ears quickly the pain is over quick and if you do not bleed the nails, it usually does not hurt. As far as brushing, if you are careful that does not hurt. Do not let the dog train you. If you stop every time the dog fusses, you will never get the job done and the dog will try to control you more and more. Like all hounds the Afgan can be very, very stubborn. BE GENTLE, BUT FIRM, DO NOT GIVE IN. Do what grooming you have to and ignore the fuss the dog makes. Your dog will soon learn it does no good to fuss.

Random but what's the point of straitening a naturay curled dogs hair lol my mini poodle stays natural
@wondrnthru2117 жыл бұрын
It makes sure the true length of all of the hair is addressed. It gives a much smoother finish. Even when the dog's coat returns to curly, it should provide a better overall result. Some groomers will do a rough cut before the bath to lessen the amount of hair being bathed and dried (which reduces the amount of shampoo/conditioner needed and the drying time), dry the coat as straight as possible, then go over it once again with clippers or scissors to address any stragglers. Very few groomers don't at some point in the process attempt to get the hair as straight as possible to give the best result.

Would you rather the dog be matted to shit? That pulls at the skin bruises the skin sometimes insects get into the mattes lay eggs and eat into the skin.. this women talks about her brushing methods to prevent damage to the skin and to make sure the coat is properly brushed. lol just walk a poodle in the rain for a few minutes, til the fur is wet, & it'll start to shiver. Poodles doesn't have an undercoat, so it'll get wet in to the skin, and gets cold a bit quicker than other dogs. Notice it stops shivering as it gets dry. It's the wind from the blowdryer that bothers a poodle the most. Poodles has a "love-hate thing" with blowdryers. Hates the blowing, but loves the drying. ;)

@pattywirth25187 жыл бұрын
I hate working on dogs who are lying down. I have always groomed even show dogs standing up. When you groom professionally you don't have lots of time to do each dog, the owner wants the dog back in two hours and they don't want you to take all day to groom their dog. This little dog belongs to a breeder who bathes and blows her dry all the time, she is not traumatized.

You obviously have never had or owned a dog before. You can't just assume what the dogs feeling based off one video. I own three poodles and they shiver, because yes they are cold after being out of the bath. But that's with every animal and even people, so does that mean when we shiver we are cold and full of anxiety? No. So maybe do some research before assuming things. Have a nice day.
@LightworkBeacon7 жыл бұрын
Hailey Noble I found this video hard to watch, as I am an owner of a standard poodle and given many baths. Of course, shivering is a natural occurrence, but I suggest you towel dry in a much more thorough manner and tend to the drying process immediately. This dog is showing signs of being cold and uncomfortable. Perhaps, instead of setting up a video and walking through steps slowly (why pretend the blow dryer is on???) to get the dog comfortable should be the main focus. We are only watching what you posted so being open to this feedback instead of defensive is much more reassuring to the viewers who see this video that you posted.
@diaryofadogshowgirl17687 жыл бұрын
Brenda Whiteman I do this same routine with my poodle. She voluntarily gets in the tub and sits for the forced air dryer and the brushing. She also shivers after bathing as this is not a double coated breed and rather thin skinned. The dog would be crying/screaming and even biting if she was scared or in pain. This groomer is being very gentle. ❤️
