I’ll keep that in mind mate, thank you. I have just been emptying the header tank with my electric pump and topping it up with fresh fluid. It does not get everything but if you do it enough times you get a pretty good dilution effect. Cheers😎👍

Excellent question Steve, and I must preface my response with the statement that I know nothing about Pajero's or the aftermarket lock up kits that you can get for them. Having said that, there are two main suppliers of the kits for the 200 series and there are hundreds, possibly even thousands of kits out there on the market. I have never had any feedback that the TCL kits have damaged the transmission in any way. And if I think of that logically, I can't see why they would damage a transmission. They are not doing anything that the transmission already cannot do, they are just applying the lock up when you want it, not when the computer decides you need it. If you have not done so already, perhaps you could reach out to the individual that fitted the kit in the video you mentioned and ask the question directly. I did not fit my kit for the fuel savings aspect, for me it was all about managing transmission temperatures to ensure a long transmission life. I have heard others mention improved fuel economy but I never monitored that on my car so I cannot comment. I trust this is in some way useful Steve. Thanks Terry. Like you, I monitor my trans temps with a scan gauge. Fuel savings would be just a bonus byproduct. My primary concern was whether the kit would have a detrimental effect on the transmission and I thank you for your thoughts.

Good eye Robert, you are definitely correct. On the first pan drain I kept 1 litre of old ATF aside and used that to flush the pump out before using it in the new fluid. In addition, I ran 100ml or so of new fluid through it before putting the hose in the fill hole and filling the transmission back up. @Jafffa Adventures I ended up buying the same pump and started to do the oil in my diffs. Just to fill the rear (2.5ltr of 80w90) took nearly half an hour. Don’t like the thick oil at all which sucks because that’s what I bought it for lol.

That’s odd Robert, mine takes under 2 minutes to fill the diff. I’m using 85W90 gear oil at ambient temperature of 25C or so. Either you are running a different pump than I am, your suction or delivery lines are smaller than mine (I’m just using the ones the pump came with) or your lubricant viscosity is significantly thicker. Very strange indeed mate🤔

There is a filter on the pickup when you drop the pan. I change it every other time I drop the ATF out. It’s not so much a filter as it is a screen. It’s good for keeping children and small birds out, that’s about it. Thanks for the question😎👍

It’s not as critical to change at the same time as a fluid change like an engine oil filter is. The transmission filter is a course mesh almost like fly screen and is really only good for filtering out birds and small children. Cheers😎👍

A change in colour can only mean the chemical or physical properties of the fluid have changed or there is contamination from wear parts or contamination introduced from the environment. Whatever the scenario, something has changed from when it was originally installed and that’s reason enough for me to swap it out. 👍

Good question Tieran. The Aisin AB60F transmission in the 200 has a mesh-type oil filter located within the transmission pan. It is a reasonably course filter and generally only good for filtering out branches, large stones, and small children! There is no need to routinely change this type of filter, as opposed to the fibre type. I swap mine out every third flush. Thanks for asking mate!!

One value would be including what’s in the torque converter, one without. If you just drain the sump on the transmission you will not get all of the fluid out of the transmission internals, and you won’t get anything out of the torque converter. That’s why you have to flush it. The 11.1 litres is for a full replacement. Cheers👍😎

@@JafffaAdventures unfortunately I changed the oil and filter but with out flushing it now I need to drain it again to check the level of oil so now do I need to flush it or not ? To make it clear the 11.1 liter is for the whole flush and 6 liter only for refill right? BTW the car the I have it has 1GR FE which it v6 just want you to know

If you did not flush then you mixed the new fluid with the old. Your call if you want to do the flush or not. Cheers

It’s a 12v pump and I just hook it up to the vehicle battery when using it. I do not clean it, but run clean fluid through it before each of my next jobs. Cheers👍😎

@@JafffaAdventures So good! One last silly question, how do you connect it to the battery in the engine bay when your car is on the hoist like that? do you have long battery leads or just a spare battery next to the pump?

On my battery I have installed a short lead about 200mm long with an Andersen plug on one end which stays connected permanently. I then chopped the cig plug off the pump and replaced it with an Andersen. Now I just pop the bonnet, plug the pump Andersen plug into the short lead on the battery and it’s good to go. The pump comes with one of those coiled type leads that stretches out a good few meters so plenty of length for the hoist application 👍😎

Not this time and I explain why in the vid. I change out the ATF frequently and do the filter every other change. If you look at the filter media itself, its very course and really only effective in filtering out small children. Good question however cheers.

Correct BUT the fluid has to be at the specified temperature. Too cold and you will not drain enough out and you will be overfilled, too hot and you will drain too much out and you will be under filled.
