The VOR Approach is classified as a Non-precision approach.
I will explain to you how to read a Jeppesen VOR approach plate and then, we will fly the procedure onboard an X-plane Cessna 172.
When briefing a Vor Approach it is important to have a clear reading structure in order not to leave any information behind.
During my 15+ years of flying experience, I have been using a structure that I will show you in this video.
In a Vor Procedure is paramount to know where you are and where you have to fly to.
By the end of this KZfaq video, you will learn how to orientate yourself using the VOR/DME.
In the VOR Approach Chart, there are Altitude restrictions that we have to comply with in order to stay clear of terrain.
When flying IFR, don't get too focused on one parameter only, if you do so, you will miss other important flight deck indications.
So, It is important to keep a constant instrument scan throughout the VOR approach.
The busiest part of the Vor Approach is the Final phase because you have to crosscheck your altitude against the DME distances.
Check where the FAF (Final Approach Fix) is and what is its altitude restriction.
During the last part of the VOR Approach, we must descend with a constant descend angle, usually 3 degrees.
You find this information in the Chart, however, I'll share with you a practical method you can use to know instantly what Vertical Speed you have to maintain to perform 3 degrees descend angle.
Once you have the PAPI insight you can disregard the Altitudes checks and follow the ''2whites and 2reds'' Lights.
If you don't have the appropriate visual references at the Decision Altitude execute a Go Around.
The VOR approach is an easy procedure to fly if you stay and think ahead of the Aeroplane.
I hope this video is useful to you.

Nice lesson. One thing good about using the Cessna 172 is just getting back to the simple basics of flying.

Why on this chart we find DA instead of MDA if this is an non-precision approach?
@PILOTCLIMB

Because we do Constant descend approaches, we don't dive and drive anymore

@@PILOTCLIMB I see, but, take a look on actual version on same approach chart if you have access. Now it says DA/MDA minimums. DOC. 8168 reffers DA as - A specified altitude or height in a 3D instrument approach operation at which a missed approach must be initiated (...) and MDA - A specified altitude or height in a 2D instrument approach operation (...) which descent must not be made without the required visual reference. As its only VOR approach - NO ILS/LOC for example, so why we might find DA while its only 2D guidance? On this approach MUST NOT go below minimums, not just make decision and due to inertia allow to be slightly below, right?
