Yeah man there's a lot to be said for normal accurate scale flying. Even though I dabble with a bit of mild 3d I do like still trying to improve my normal hovering and accurate turns etc too. Satisfying. Pointless be able to do piro tictocs etc if you can't do an accurate balanced level turn consistently.

"best to learn on" is probably something bigger. My smallest is an XK-110 and my biggest is a TREX-550X (with a brand new TREX-800 in the mail right now). The bigger they are, they easier they are to fly. Period. Things happen slower and they are easier to see. The main advantage of the micro/mini helis are the price. They are way harder to fly, especially with precision. My recommendation is more time on the simulators and crash something a little bigger a lot less. If you can do it reliably in the simulator, you can do it at the field. If you're using RealFlight, practice with the 700+ size 3D birds. Run max idle-up all the time, the larger size really settles them down. Crashing them cost $0. A big bird cranked up flies "true" and isn't really a handful. I mostly practice with the Nemo 800. It flies exactly how you want something to fly. A 450 has long been the accepted as the bang-for-buck sweet spot. They fly "pretty big" without the price getting too high. If you really put in your time on the simulator, a 450 can survive learning without breaking a lot of parts.

Yeah could be keeping stick too negative maybe. Try going back to but more positive? See how it goes

You certainly don't HAVE to start. On something small but ideally you ant to partner with someone who knows what they're doing to help you set it up and get going. It should be a bit more stable, but also more expensive to fix and definitely more dangerous even at 470 size. Make sure you practise going for throttle hold, and use it if it starts coming towards you.

Well I couldnt say for definite on all models but funny you should say that. I think it pretty much was the case on mine. I also rebuilt too so that could have something to do with it. I found I had a lot less travel on negative compared to positive, It would barely climb from inverted hover even though servo travel settings were the same. Make sure you blades are zero pitch at mid stick and try adjusting servo travel if you have a programmable transmitter.

Yes you want equal throw positive and negative, you are going to want 12° of positive and 10° of negative with zero pitch at mid stick. You can do the blade folding trick but the best way is to use a pitch cage to get an accurate up and down. Also make sure all of your servos are 90° at Mid stick and swashplate is level.

Hi thanks for the comment. Yeah like "real' aircraft bigger will be more stable as there's more weight, inertia and with helis more gyroscopic rigidity in the rotor disc. Haven't actually flown anything too big myself but looking.to get another soon As for modes I guess what ever you're used to will be fine on helis too. I think mode 2 is more logical overall, especially to me as on "real" (full sized) aircraft pitch and roll (elevator and aileron) is on the same stick/yoke etc if that makes sense?

Everyone's different though even some pros use other modes. Check out Duncan bossion if you haven't heard of him. Think he flies mode 1, and does it extremely well.

@@RCStuffvideos I found out that it’s actually mode 3 for me. I also have pitch and roll on the same stick, but on my left. I have throttle and yaw on my right. Same as with FPS games, if you’re in to that. :-)

Thanks for the comment. How stable is it if you go hands off briefly when hovering? Does it suddenly drift or more slowly drift away? I'm probably doing a video sometime about some set up things that mske this easier to fly.

@@brandoshobbies5353 ok so set up can't be too far out in terms of swash level etc then hopefully. I have heard others say how the 230 can be harder to fly compared to other types, even some smaller ones so it's probably just a different feel on this particular type.

Cheers droneman. I'd get bnf to be honest. Im sure it'll fly better with the nx8 and I'm sure there'll be instructions about setting up the tx. There were settings included for lots of different transmitter in the instructions with this 230s v2.
