This video is 3 years old....So I thought i'd update you...I'll even make a youtube video regarding this since things have changed....I'll save you the 14 minutes of watching the video. Buy a 4 or 5 piece travel rod as it comes with it's own case in which is very small you can attach it to a backpack and nobody would bat an eye. Next is tackle, put it in your checked in bag and voila no hassle no worry. That's it. Fly and travel with your gear and enjoy the fishing worry free. You want to gamble it and bring your 2 piece rod or your 1 piece rods? Sure that $30 going there will be fine. Just don't complain when they hit you with the $292 to fly with it back. Oh and they don't display that anywhere. It will just magically appear. Also most airlines now a days all do this. United, american delta, you name it. They all penny pinch on every little thing, because they can.

I'm traveling to the Caribbean and I can't find a 2 piece surf/inshore rod that could fit on my large suitcase. 🎣😭 I do have a fly fishing rod case but is for a 3 piece rod. I might fish with the line spool into a soda can.

My best travel rod I take to Cuba ....the Mayan etc is a Diawa Ardito travel travel surf rod spinning.......11 foot 5 piece, fits in luggage rated 12 to,25lb test and 2 to 6 oz casting....I paid 210 Canadian so your cost in USA shouldn't be more than 150$ or so I also bring a 8ft6 4 piece Fenwick eagle rated 8 to 17 or 20lbs
