Just made it and was surprised at how well it flew compared to the others I've made in the past (i.e. in the 5th grade). Good to know how it all works. Also shocked and amazed there is a person who specializes in making airplanes.

I have to say, good explanation, but those test flights really stunk and I think I know why! It took me a few hours yesterday to figure it out. I thought for sure John Collins of all people would know the secret tweak. I'll reveal it on my channel next week.

I make it a little different and if u do a hybrid between it and the plane he makes to set the world record, it will have the wings of it the plane showcased in this video but the body of the record holder. That flies really good and needs minimal tweaking.

Fun fact: RAT is a real system in real planes, usually commercial airliners. It's used when the engines fail, or a problem happens with the electricity fails. When activated, a propeller about the size of a small Cessnas propeller comes down from bellow the planes fuselage, and gets rotated by the wind. Think of it as a windmill, it spins and gives electricity to operate electrical the components in the plane.

this is the only plane i know how to make. fyi i fold the wings out adjacent to the top of the RAT fold so the handle you hold is the same height all the way across the length, making for a wider wing surface which = more lift...

Haha I always make this plane when I was young, except mine has a pointy front. And to increase stability and help it fly straight, I fold about 0.5-1cm of each side of the wing from one end to the other end to 90 degrees. I found that out by coincidence since I'm trying to make it look more badass haha. It will help stabilize your plane even if it doesn't fly straight in the first place. Well most of the time, if done right.

A bit of tape in the center ? Is that recommended? Back in my childhood, our dad would tape it together, at the center. His argument being, to keep the frame from vibrations, in flight.

I must say that the Nakamura design is not original. I am 52 years old and in Israel back in my childhood in the Israel Aero Club that design was very common, i was 8-9 years old when me and my friends were folding our paper planes exactly like that. I don't know where Mr Nakamura discovered it but the idea is not his.
@tempestfury83242 жыл бұрын
I'm not certain when this design was created but I too have been making it since the early 1970's. The "creator" Eiji Nakamura has written many origami books and one published in 1972 was about paper airplanes. There is no real way of knowing how old the design is but I'm certain that it was before 1972. Still, it's one of my favorite planes, easy to make and remember, and a great flyer!

@HeyJD1238 жыл бұрын
+MySubstitutedReality Yep, just like the measurement system, there's the US paper sizes and then there's the International paper sizes.
@1DJLNR8 жыл бұрын
i make better ones but size doesn't matter it you know about paper planes, the size must not be a square thats all because we need the length to make some folds for a slight weight increase to manage the air resistance, A4 paper size measurements world wide are very close so this debate is a lost cause, dnt you guys have family or friends in either country? its best to so you can avoid believing everything on the net, with no geographical friends you have no choice to believe all the twisted crap stories out there still unresolved..
