in this video series I will be covering every aspect of tong making in great detail. In this video i will show you how to make tong blanks using the 3 set down style. Its a long video with not much forging but its super detailed and I share some tips and tricks that should help you forge epic tongs. The inspiration for this series came from the Forging it Forward face book group go check them out link bellow. So lets work through tong making and every aspect if the tong forging process step by step.

This is one of the better tong making videos I have seen. Good job Daniel. The little mnemonic trick of turning the stock so you can see the first set down when starting the boss area should prove to be very helpful to beginners. It was to me as well because I don't make a lot of tongs. The second camera angle was also extremely helpful in understanding what was going on.

If you would like a slightly wider boss, use the rounded face of your rounding hammer when making your second set down (the 45 deg* one).

For some reason making tongs is very rewarding. Maybe because they make for good beginner projects, they are cheap, you can make them from square, round and even flat stock. And there is a never ending number of designs, and essentially you want all of them. kind of like handbags for girls, I suppose.

Great info!! But you were mistaken on one thing.You forgot I work for the city government and it's actually... if it's not broke, fix it untill it is!
