It seems like there are a lot of myths out there about forgiving other people.
We might think:
• Forgiveness is progressive; it takes time!
• Forgiveness is a feeling; I should only do it when I feel ready.
• Forgiveness means forgetting what happened.
But none of these are actually true!
In this short video, I share a simple and straightforward way to go about forgiving other people. I have seen God use this easy-to-implement truth to repair broken families and to heal marriages and friendships.
If there's anyone who has hurt you deeply, take a few minutes to watch the video and then consider your path forward.

Four years ago I was drugged at a bar and abducted. These people were so cruel to me... I was missing for a whole month. God made a way for me to escape. I thank the Lord I am alive and able to talk about this today. I have forgiven all my abductors and those involved who helped orchestrate my kidnapping. Thank you Holy Spirit for helping me forgive these lost individuals.

I am in the same boat. I was sexually abused as a very young child by a neighbor..i don't remember all.of the details as I was only 4 or 5, but I forgive her. The problem is that I was told in counseling that she turned me.into a victim for the next and the next and the next. People always take advantage of my kindness or the fact that they tend to get away with taking advantage of me or abusing me. I forgive them all. I have saud and done really mean things in retaliation and revenge and I need God's forgiveness. As a recovering alcoholic, I know that I can't afford resentments. My life is miserable when I hang on to resentments and I can't move forward in healthy ways. Forgiveness isn't for the offender that hurt you. Forgiveness is FOR YOU to be healthy and have a bright new future without those people who did you wrong or any constant thoughts of them. Jesus said to pray for those who hurt us. You can pray for rhe blessing of patience and empathy for the offender...knowing that although these two characters are huge blessings, that person is going to have to go through HELL to get them lol. Even worse...the blessing of endurance. That one is near literally killing me!

My dad was a very abusive drunk. My mom left him when I was 5. They both lived for themselves or other people but not for us. He died at 56 in an apartment from a heart attack sitting on his couch with a neighbor woman. My mom could really care less if I'm ok and only calls when she needs something. It's very difficult to forgive and get past the hurt. Im trying to be patient and wait for Jesus to help because I can't do it.

The problem I find is that many people SAY they forgive, but they really haven't. They hold it tightly sometimes in secret and don't let it go. They simply pretend they have forgiven the other person because it's a social Christian expectation.

@@mikemarti2073 No, it releases them from the burden. You can let go of the anger without releasing them off the burden they should carry for their offense. Just let the person know, you don't forgive them, but you've let go of the anger. That releases you from the burden and puts it on them. Somethings are unforgivable.

Amen !!!! Heb 12!!!!! So powerful “LOOKING UNTO JESUS” CHRISTian means---to be CHRIST like!!! Yet we as fleshly performers can NEVER do this in our FLESHLY strength,”ye must be born again” His Holy Spirit IN IN IN us empowers us to walk after Him!!!!!to FOLLOW Him And yes it is not a magic formula but truly TRUSTING Him In us to do the work through us!!!! Be blessed family IN Christ Jesus “FORGIVE them Father for they know NOT what they do”!!!! Matt18!!!!! Look at the evil and wicked servant,we desire mercy and LOVE,FORGIVENESS yet we don’t want to extend or give We are to BECOME LOVE,UNCONDITIONAL LOVE NOT BY OUR STRENGTH,BUT BY BEHOLDING HIM IN,THROUGH US,HIS LIFE THROUGH US!!! (Gal2:20,jhn17:3) JESUS IS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE AND HIS SPIRIT IN US TEACHES US TO BECOME LIKE HIM!!!!!!! But it is a GROWTH issue and the more we spend time WITH Him as in intimacy alone,secret place living ,we become!!!!as in the commandment He gave us to LOVE them as I HAVE LOVED YOU!!!! Gotta RECEIVE HIS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE TO GIVE IT(which is daily for me ,or I’m missing something!!!!) All glory to Him that started will surely finish what HE started from glory to glory Ok be blessed

Matthew 18:21 is the answer to anyone having problems forgiving. :) when you look at the HUGE pile of sin that God has forgiven each of us who are born again, how can you then look God in the face and not forgive your brother. I don’t care what they have done to you! Humble yourselves and forgive as you have been forgiven :) You might just find that the person it frees the most is....... you!

Amen, thank you. It's true the feelings can come up again, but that's the right counsel, to walk on in that forgiveness! Satan often hurls the darts upon waking up in the morning..some hurtful experience, people from the past. I think it's like loving your enemies. People may still hate you but we are to bless them that curse us. That's something that the evil one tries to wound us afresh with as well.

15 “If your brother or sister sins against you, go to them. Tell them what they did wrong. Keep it between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them back. 16 But what if they won’t listen to you? Then take one or two others with you. Scripture says, ‘Every matter must be proved by the words of two or three witnesses.’ (Deuteronomy 19:15) 17 But what if they also refuse to listen to the witnesses? Then tell it to the church. And what if they refuse to listen even to the church? Then don’t treat them as a brother or sister. Treat them as you would treat an ungodly person or a tax collector. Matthew 18:15-17 No mention here of just letting someone off the hook. The order is 1. Tell them what they did 2. If they repent forgive them So as long as they repent you must forgive them as many times as they repent. In Luke 17:3 it is abundantly clear that repentance should precede forgiveness. Even at the cross when Jesus said, “Father, forgive them.” This did not mean al the people were in that moment forgiven. Later in Acts 2... “36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Here, the ones who had Jesus our to death... did not God forgive them? Apparently in order to be forgiven they had to admit what they did, repent and be baptized. Now many will say that repentance is merely to change the mind. Even if we go with that somewhat unclear definition, it still stands as a prerequisite to being forgiven. It would mean they had to acknowledge that Christ was/is Messiah of God and confess Him as Lord. Repentance precedes forgiveness again. If repentance is merely a change of the mind then what is Jesus talking about when he says “tell them their fault and if they repent...” If they change their mind? Obviously this is not the case here. It involves acknowledgment and confession of what they did.

He said that God didn't have feelings when he forgave us but that's not true. According to John 3:16-17, God loved us so deeply that he chose to make a way for us to be forgiven. The love that God has and the love that humans exhibit cannot be compared to each other. We say we love people, but our actions don't line up to our words. God says that He loves us and His actions line up. God loved us which meant that He did have a feeling: love.

Women had persecuted me for sharing the gospel with them. At first my ego took a downward tail speed because I always wanted to present my self as this "great Alpha male" to the opposite sex, but I had gotten the total opposite. They laughed at me, made fun of me, gossiped about me until my ego was that size of a calcified penny, but that was a good thing because eventually a few started listening. It pays to "stick to your guns." Be real and transparent with people in general, you might win the respect of the few, because of your stand for Christ. Let your light shine. Let this be an encouragement to all you men out there. Let the light of Jesus Christ shine in your hearts, as the champions of Jesus Christ, to the opposite sex.

This sometimes easy and sometimes very hard. But the act of forgiveness is imperative. The part we need to further explain are boundaries. We forgive and if we have a perpetual abuser of our boundaries that requires continuous forgiveness, make the boundaries stronger while still loving that person from a distance. You will never forget and a memory may trigger feelings that tries to keep us in a state of unforgiveness, but chose to redirect your thoughts to the state of forgiveness. The person you are forgiving doesn't not control you or your mind unless you allow it to be. Also don't forget to forgive yourself, because that can also keep you stuck in a place of unforgiveness towards others. If you are wrapped up in any form of guilt or shame and can't forgive yourself, then it will be very difficult to forgive others. Hurting people hurt people and everyone of us have been hurt and sadly have caused hurt to others whether we intended to or not. Thank God for His forgiveness, because every single one of us needs forgiveness. Amen!

I''m really conflicted about forgiveness. Not only did my church hurt me and my family a couple of years ago, but they also lied right to our faces about various facets of the ordeal. They still have not apologized for what they did. And in not doing so, they've relinquished all credibility. I'm looking forward to the day we leave this church. And we would have already done so IF the Lord had released us. However, for some reason, we do not feel HIs release.

My sister in law truly hurt me by some of the things she was saying behind our backs. And it really hurt us, both my husband and I . So I hadnt talked to her or wanted to have anything to do with her ever since. I guess I got a root of bitterness within me. Anyway, as Im a born again christian, I knew that it was wrong for me to habor this unforgiveness I felt ,in my heart against her. And I knew that God says if I dont forgive others , then he wont forgive me. I struggled with this for a few days, as our flesh can really get in the way and tell us all kinds of things , why we shouldnt forgive. Anyway, I finally sent her a text message asking for her to forgive me, because the last time we did talk, I said some pretty nasty things, to her,and she to me . We both got angry and hung up. So I didnt feel like I wanted to talk to her, by phone. I did ask her for forgiveness. And Ive never heard a word from her since. So maybe shes not forgiving me. But I cant do anything about how she feels toward me. I did what I felt that God was telling me to do. So its in her court now. If she forgives me , ok, and if she doesnt ok. I pray she will , but shes not really a believer, so who knows. I still forgive her, and I still pray for her everyday . Maybe you or other believers could also pray, that God will touch her heart, and that she will come to know Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and friend. Her name is Mary, so would appreciate any prayers from any of you, for her. Thank you and May God bless you

My friend... God did have a feeling when He forgave us... absolute agony for having to kill his son for us. And they were both more than willing to do so.

When God forgives, God also chooses to remember our sins no more. That is how we are also supposed to forgive. Forgive and forget. So in saying this, when Chris Farley is telling us that we shouldn't forget, where does it say in the bible that we are supposed to forgive but not forget?
@Jess-123-jsp
@Jess-123-jsp 4 жыл бұрын
I agree with what you're saying but firstly he didn't say we shouldn't forget, he said forgiving does not mean forgetting. Secondly, I think his intent was to encourage people to forgive because some people think that to forgive, they need to forget, which of course feels impossible to do in the hurt. But he is saying to forgive even in the hurt as it's a choice of the mind rather than feelings. As Christians we should ultimately also forget just as God does for us every time He forgives us. But forgiving is the first step then later we can focus on forgetting.

You are not telling the entire story here. Which is likely why people find it even harder. Scripture states here: Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. Romans 12:19 God does deal with our unrepentant enemies.

Forgiveness is one of the best ways to witness to the forgiveness that we've received at Calvary. The only thing that I like to add is that if we are going to led by the Holy Spirit, He'll lead us in the exact way God forgives us. He forgets our sins. That's essential in New Creation Holy Spirit led forgiveness. 🌀 Heb 8:12 For I will forgive their unrighteousness. I will remember their sins and lawless deeds no more. We should do the same too, never remember the evil of the people we've chosen to forgive, led by the Holy Spirit of God.

I think the only portion that would need to be approached slightly different is on what was shared around 3:57 about 'healthy boundaries'... those things will disappear as a believer continues maturing and growing in Christ, because at no moment do I see Jesus 'setting up boundaries' with the people that were coming against Him!

Unforgiveness is sin..... Romans 6:6 King James Version (KJV) 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Therefore.... Romans 8:13 King James Version (KJV) 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. A dead man never is in unforgiveness because he/she can never be offended or wronged. Just die already ;) So easy.... Be blessed all!!

@@Campcrystal1 My dear brother. I truly hear you. I was a Christian a long time before I grew into this revelation. All by the grace of God. I am definitely no "super Christian" lol. But I do believe the word.. and I do believe "with man it's impossible BUT with God all things are possible" I recently made a video on unforgiveness and one way that I was shown how God wanted to purge it from my heart. Please watch and be blessed by it. Maybe God had me make it just for you 😇. May the truth in it set you free like it did me. What about another Christian yourvoen daughter that will not forgive when its sought and hasn't talked to me in 2 years? She was never abused or wanted for anything. We can't even see our grandchildren and they are members of the same church. Some people are living outside. God's will if they refuse to even communicate with someone that asks for forgiveness over and over. If she doesn't want a relationship fine but she is not obeying scripture by holding onto a grudge. Her mother had never done anything but love her and she is cut off too. She is So hurt that she tells me not to contact our daughter if she is dying and she has been seriously ill for 32 years with an incurable illness.

Ee are to be like Christ our Lord right? To forgive is to also to forget.. Our Father said that He forgives and remembers no more.. So are we not also to forget? In truth it can be difficult to forget but to hang on to that rememberence is a way of hanging on to a bit of unforgiveness..?..

Forgiveness = they get away with it. Then you have to pretend that everything is fine and they aren't responsible for the damage they've done. So they go on their merry way and you must never speak of it again. Again your feelings are disregarded and they are happy as clams. Clearly this "forgiveness" favors the abusers, and I don't see this as a good thing at all.
@im2cuteferu
@im2cuteferu 6 жыл бұрын
Really? I can talk about how I feel? If I do that then this "forgiveness" hasn't happened, apparently. You talk about forgiveness like then it all goes away. It will never go away. I just don't think about it most of the time.

Forgiveness is a release for yourself. You're releasing them from doing a debt they've done to you. You're freeing yourself from the anger and hurt that a human naturally does to another human. God bless xo

I know this was a long time ago, but I would just like to say that forgiveness from our part does not mean that 'they' get away with it. God says, 'Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.' In other words, if we hold on to anger, bitterness, resentment or demand payback, retribution or vengeance for what someone has done to us, we are putting ourselves in God's place as judge, jury and executioner. It is righteous for God to avenge His people, but it is unrighteous for God's people to avenge themselves. I highly recommend the book 'The Bait of Satan' by John Bevere, it really blessed me when dealing with my own unforgiveness.
