Firstly, sorry for the poor audio in some parts of this video, a lot of my equipment was out of action at time of filming.

Great tutorial.. The cabin filter should go in facing the correct way. The layers of the filter differ from each side. The larger partials are removed from the air as it enters the correct side and the next layers are designed to remover smaller partials and so on. So if putting the filter in the wrong way would cause the small partial side to glog up quickly as it would filter everything, small and large. There are arrows on the side indicating the direction of air flow. On the passat b6 the pollen filters slots that fit with the plastic slid latch that keeps it in place. Line the 6 slots on the filter base with the lid which can only fit one way on the car and you know you have the correct orientation of the cabin filter when we replacing it back in to the casing 👍🏼

If you have problems starting your car afterwards don't worry just turn on and off ignition key and do it like 10 times on and off and then try starting it! Hope it helps : )

Thank you! Most people/manufacturers recommend every 1 year or 12,000 miles. I usually just do it around same time every year as I don't do many miles but still service everything

Do you not have to prime the new oil filter with oil? always did that on motorbikes.

You can, and this is probably the most technically correct and by the book thing to do, but I've never noticed any start up rattle or extra noise from not doing it and oil pressure seems fine from the get go. Also on these cartridge style filter housings I believe the majority of it can drain away when you pour it in anyway (I could be wrong there however!). On a screw on style filter as seen on bikes I would be tempted to fill it up as you say

Good video, using it for my 59 plate Passat. My bolts / screws are seized on for the fuel filter change, any tips for freeing them?

Thank you! If you can get some mole grips or something on them might be do able to rotate them enough to free them off. Alternatively hammer a torx bit of an appropriate size into it and it should bite into the head nicely, used that a few times. Then just slowly back it out whilst applying pressure down onto the bolt

Hello, afraid I dont have one to hand to do that! It is underneath the car rather than in engine bay like the diesel. You can find loads of helpful videos on here regarding it!

Do you have to fill the fuel filter before installing? Haynes manual says you do but surely if its soaked in fuel in the housing it doesn't need refilling???

Hello, don't have to but I make sure to cycle ignition on and off fair few times before starting as then it cycles fuel pump and fills fuel filter housing that way. Two ways to skin a cat as it were

I think that the recommendation on how to do the change on fuel filter is with the Vcds (the volkswagen program for cars)/or other diagnosis programs that have the option to make the cycle of the fuel like it s supposed to do, otherwise if you do it with starting the ignition like 5-10 times, it will destroy the “higher pump” in short time.

Castrol is great but honestly any name brand synthetic oil of the correct grade will be fine. Check the oil specifications to see if it meets VW spec (whatever it states in cars handbook) and you're golden!

How many miles do you drive before you change the oil?

I've had an Audi and now a Passat - I myself use a rule of 10000km (6200 miles) or each year if I don't reach the km/miles

I usually go by the rule of 10,000 mile max or yearly but honestly if you're doing it yourself anywhere from 6-10k miles is reasonable! Depends how often you will hit that mileage mark/how much it will then cost you! I just wouldn't let it go any more than 10k miles
