Germinating moringa seeds by the paper towel method is very easy, effective and efficient . I have found transplanting moringa seedlings giving me excellent results - better germination , stronger seedlings and rapid growth after transplant as compared to direct sowing results .
PAPER TOWEL METHOD OF GERMINATING SEEDS : It is a great way of germinating all types of seeds, small , big , difficult to germinate seeds , old seeds . It saves a lot of precious time when we want to grow seeds that take a long time to germinate - eg eggplants, chillies , peppers etc . The paper towel method helps us know which seeds are germinating and we can sow only those seeds into seedling trays or pots , thereby saving critical time lost waiting for seeds to come up in the growing season.
Moringa seeds are available in regular and dwarf varieties . My 4 year old is a regular variety and the seedlings you see me growing in this video are dwarf , I would like to compare the growth and output of both varieties in my small space partial shade container garden.
Where To Buy :
1. Moringa seeds are easily available in India at any garden store or online on ebay.in and amazon.in . In the US , one can buy them at www.rareseeds.com
2. Green grow bags : I got mine from www.manidharmabiotech.com , this website has almost everything a gardener needs . The grow bags are also available on ebay.in and amazon.in

My 4 year old Moringa tree is a regular one , the seedlings I showed you in this video are dwarf variety which I am experimenting with this year to see if there is any benefit of growing the dwarf one. It is possible the dwarf will give me adequate moringa pods to harvest , which is not my aim for growing it , I grow it purely for the leaves but it may help others who are keen to grow it both for pod and leaves . The regular moringa grows perfect too in my small space in grow bags as long as it is getting adequate sun , it has produced 2 pods just once .

Any chance you can do an update on the differences you found in growing regular and dwarf moringa? I would be very interested in hearing what you have to say. You really do have a beautiful little system developed for yourself. I like the music and how you do your videos, too. So relaxing and very easy to follow. I get so tired of these videos that shout or spend all their time speed-talking at me. Loved the CaliKim vid with you too. #GirlGardenersRule LOL

I live in Oregon and got the idea I couldn't grow moringa here. I was sent a few seed pods from a friend in Calif. about 9 months ago and kept them Your video has encouraged me to plant the seeds. It is April now so our warm weather should be here by the time to put them in a larger pot in a sunny window.

Amazing. It worked for me. I am so thrilled because I survive on Moringa and Ocra due to glycemic imbalances. Muringa is a miracle 🌲. I love your spirit. Mumbai and it's space limitations have not constrained you. Where the mind is free and open you can create space. Truly inspired by you.

So happy to see your video. Glad to know they can be potted in a large container and not necessarily in the yard. I live in rental property and once, many years ago, I started some lemon trees from seeds. I gave all away but one, planted it in the yard. Later we lost our house due to financial difficulties and so I chose to not try to remove the tree, wishing not to shock it. It was so beautiful....

One thing I can tell you about moringa is the more heat the better . It grows along roadsides here in Mumbai uncared for and flourishes in peak summers when other plants and humans are wilting . Drought tolerant too , nitrogen fixer , does not like being babied . Prune it to promote a bushier shorter tree in warm weather when it shows active growth .

Thanks Marty , yes paper towel works so well for so many seeds . But most folks here in India who are blessed with an open space or a terrace garden prefer to direct sow either in a pot or in ground or in a seedling tray . Yes moringa grows beautifully from woody cuttings . Happy gardening to you as well !!

Hello, how are you doing? Soon after I sent you the last message, I was able to get some moringa seeds from the US. It was from a company that sells all kinds of seeds and before you replied advising me about your friend. Next time I will definitely get from your friend. I had received the seeds a few days ago and I started the germination according to your video and advice. They germinated yesterday and I thought of telling you about it and to thank you once again for this video. In am here today to see how you transplanted them from the paper towel. Thanks again and God Bless.

Thanks for your reply. I had transplanted the germinated seeds from the paper towel to cups following your instructions and the seedlings started to grow. Right now they look like yours did on 18.01.2017. I was very happy to see them grow but now they have started to droop. The stalks are very thin and frail looking. It is still very cold in Toronto so I have them indoors by a window. I came to see your video again and you have mentioned they should be watered from the bottom. I had missed that even though I have seen your video umpteen times. I was giving them very little water every couple of days. Now I shall be very careful and I hope they dont die on me. Incidentally this is the first time in my life seeds have germinated for me - all thanks to your instructions. I cant thank you enough. Best regards

It motivates the novice like me to learn more about gardening.
@mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies
@mumbaibalconygardenerhobbies 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you , glad you found the video helpful . So you get 3 hours sun through the year , that is wonderful , you can have a chilly plant , curry leaf plant , may be cherry tomatoes , moringa , lemon grass , ajwain patta ( Cuban oregano , grows easily from cuttings ) . Regular moringa will do fine if you dont find dwarf , as I mentioned before , just keep pruning once the plant is established and you feel it is falling and needs support , cut off 6 inches or more from the top. It will send out side growth and more leaves for you. Resist the temptation of pulling out leaves from the bottom .

nice music reminds me of the labyrinth with David Bowie .you also will want to make sure you put holes in the bottoms of your pots I personaly like to keep the soil looser in the pots more room for the roots , great video .

Hi my friend. So nice to see a video from you. I hope your winter gardening went well. Or has it been Summer in India?

Hello Lark , so good to hear from you , I wondered about how you did over your winter . Well it is blistering summer now , I had a great growing season with a lot of new things happening in my garden , I have stingless bee hives now in my garden , I also attempted a diy bee feeder and ended up inviting the honey bees , it was great fun, do watch those videos when you can . I thought of you while doing this video , you have always been a great advocate of the paper towel method of germination . Have you started your seeds yet ?

Thanks for the video. I wish to add the dwarf variety to my garden. Can you suggest a place to acquire seeds/sapling? Thanks in advance,

It is a wonderful tree to grow, the young tender leaves are just fantastic to eat raw , a nice earthy nutty flavor . Thank you :)

That was very thorough and helpful information! I direct-sowed the dwarf seeds... it's been about 5-6 days. Temps have been 70-80 F Do you know how long it should take to germinate? Thanks❤️

Thanks Kristy ! They will germinate in 7 to 10 days , direct sowed ,it just takes way longer as I mentioned in the video . Just keep it watered well so that seed doesnt dry up . Once they come up they grow so rapidly if it is warm enough you will be surprised .

I’ve grow dozens of Moringa trees to 1-2 feet tall. At that size the wildlife eats them. Every one of them.
