I managed to get an phone call yesterday asking if I could attend a interview today at 4pm. I did, and I got a phone call 3 hours later offering me the job on the tills! I’m so happy as I’m only 16(nearly 17) and it’s my first ever job! It was a group interview too and we did work experience within the store. I go Saturday for the wholeee day for an induction!

Tesco is like the worst... they expect you to answer the questionnaire like it was an exam... it a god damn 'questionnaire' also all of the answers are right and reasonable action and none of them is obvious. I try so many combinations and it said 'you not reached the minimum criteria required' and i'm like fck off... how many customers actually uses your customer assistant?....

Naomi Yeah no problem. What are some of the questions? (It’s been years since I’ve done it). But what I did was make a few fake accounts and try the questionnaire and write down what I wrote each time until I got it right, then did it with my proper account

My cousin works part time at Tesco's and he gets a fixed rate of £9.50 an hour. He works as a Customer Assistant on Friday Evenings, Whole Saturdays and Whole Sundays. They pay him £10.50 an hour when he works over the Christmas period. He started in June 2018. I am 16 and wanted to work there but on the application it says you have to be 18+ due to health and safety regulations. ASDA don't hire 16 year olds and the manager told me it's harder to hire 16 year olds as more law is involved and apparently all ASDA employees must be available once at least every working week (I would tick Friday Evenings) and during the weekends. For 16 year olds, Greggs actually pay you a lot (£7.12 an hour which is much better than competitors) I mean come on Superdrugs pay 16 year olds £4.90 an hour

Listen I worked in Tesco for a year , it's not that hard to get in because it's actually the worst store to work at, the expect you empty out 16 big 4by4 cages and then at the same time they expect you to cover tills as well dealing with customers and on top of that you gave to clean the store , trust me the stuff you have to carry when you unload trucks is to much , the amount of time I hurt my back and cut my hands because of dirty cages and I'm 22 and kinda fit so this shouldn't effect me but it does , take my word for this just wait a bit longer and try get somthing better , I'm a video editor now that works in BBC , I hated every second in Tesco

I went into my interview all prepared like this and didn’t get asked any of the questions. Just chatted to the manager he asked me who I was and what I’m about and then we spent the next 10 minutes chatting about classic cars. He offered me the job right there. 😅

Tesco’s like customer service I had a 10 minute interview due to the COVID-19 so it was a lot more simpler 3 month contract. however it can always be changed if you are a good worker

Unfortunately i tried to apply to Tesco about 3 4 weeks ago, I had got through the questions fine, the last stage of the application process was providing my NI number. My mum had misplaced my NI number, and obviously thought she had known where it was. So i ordered a new NI number and it came on the day the closing date for the job. Was gutted. Now im havin trouble finding a potential next one.

If you go to to gov.uk and either register or sign into your personal tax account, you can print your NI letter straight from there without having to wait for the postage!

Hi! I work at tesco and no you don't get to choose where you want to work. At the interview there will be vacancies for a few different jobs and after the group interview they will ask if anyone has any preference but generally you end up where ever they see fit. However you can be trained to do overtime in different departments.

I just looked online for the answers! I applied online for 2 years and kept getting rejected and then I got 3 interviews in one week! Still don't know why I was being rejected but I would suggest just applying for every vacancy there is because the hours are very flexible.

Yes I did. I applied for every vacancy available in the 5 mile radius even if several vacancies were for the same branch. Also if you end up finding a job that's a little further away I would still accept the job because Tesco has so many vacancies they don't advertise to the public. So once you are an employee you can just move to a branch closer to your home. Edit: I tried to send you the screenshot of the answers for the questionnaire but I don't know if it's possible to send a private message on youtube. Quick question I had my interview and I did pretty good and got invited to trial, which I just done yesterday, went well. I have been invited to a induction now does this mean I have got the job.

Abir T I’m pretty certain you did get the job! I went for my induction a few weeks ago and have since started doing shifts. The induction is basically a day where you just watch videos about how to treat customers, and you choose uniform sizes etc. From what i gathered on mine though, it is the stage that you get to if you’ve secured the job. I'm really puzzled by this video and lots of other stuff I've read about supermarket interviews. A couple of years ago, I applied for Christmas work at Sainsburys - I filled in the online application, and got an INSTANT (like... the second I clicked 'send') email with an interview date for a couple of days time. The 'interview' took place in the staff canteen and consisted of questions like; "Are you ok with heavy lifting?", "What's your uniform size?" and "Can you start Thursday?" - It was over in 5 minutes, and I was asked to attend the induction the next day (a boring 5 hours of videos on safety and crap). I then worked my 6 weeks, but didn't want to continue due to travel/distance. I have an interview at Tescos in a few days, and I'm worried that I'm gonna be faced with all these questions and team building crap like in this video - I can't be bothered to make that kind of effort! Seriously, the questions should be; "Can you put stuff on shelves?", "Can you swipe stuff from left to right?", etc! Not being mean, but most of the staff at Tescos barely speak English, and most of them are not the sharpest tools in the box! Well, I'll let you know how I get on...!

If you are say 16 and you get your first job and live with your parents do you have any legal obligations eg do you have to pay any tax or anything? Also when you get your first job how do you get paid and when, how do you discuss this? And how do you not get taken advantage of as a minor?

Your employer will deal with tax for you, so you don't need to worry about that (it's based on how much you earn each year - you probably won't earn much, so you won't lose a lot from your wage), and 99% sure you'll be paid every four weeks, straight into your bank account (your new employer will ask your bank details before you start) - Again your employer will tell you (it's not something you can 'discuss' with them!). Get a job with a known company like Tescos and you'll be fine - Avoid working at your local, dodgy kebab shop, or a back street cafe... know what I mean?!?

Known companies won't 'take advantage' of you... but that's a matter of opinion - lots of us still feel that £9 an hour for slaving away, working hard for shareholders is not ok... but that's life! I’ve heard that it’s good to also ask about the companies values , progression etc and also about the interviewer themselves You could ask, What Drew you to working at (name of company)? What do you love about working for (name of company)? - you can see if they actually enjoy the job or not Also can ask stuff like - Are there any examples of something a new starter has done that’s impressed you? Questions along those lines. As it will give you an insight into what the job is like and if it’s for you. Hope this helps :)

I think he said he gets paid like £7.90 an hour, which is above minimum wage (£5.90/h). I know that Aldi pays between £10.20/h and £11.50/h and Lidl pay about the same, which is not that bad if you work in a shop I guess

It’s easy to get an interview with Sainsbury’s. If you pass their online test which is just some simple situation questions then you automatically get an interview regardless of how little experience you have and their interview is pretty easy too. Plus they have good pay.

the musical gamer. Well if you failed the online test then no offence but you don’t deserve the job cause it’s so simple. If you failed the interview then you need to work on your interview technique. You can easily find the interview questions online to prepare beforehand they have a bunch and they just choose a few to ask you.
