I'm pretty sure the reps take notes when you're speaking to them, so the future reps could know what you discussed for future references. They always say "this call may be monitored or record for quality assurance."

I feel Amex is the most generous when it comes to retention offer, (7000 SPG points, 7500MR for the PRG), I've never had any luck with Chase...

Have not needed this yet, but will become relevant upon the 2nd anniversary of my AmEx Hilton Honors Surpass, as it, unlike the Chase Tier 3 trio of hotel cards, only has one anniversary "free" night. May ask for 15K points as an offer but will have to also see if I can make use of Hilton Gold

Called chase 3 times to discuss the 450 annual fee and every time they recommend I downgraded. THEY recommended it... so, needless to say I did not get an offer. I do actually still love the card though.

I have yet to hear of a retention offer for the CSR. Amex is probably the one who gives the most retention offers, overall.

I called Barclaycard for a retention offer on the Arrival Plus and each time was given no offer. I eventually downgraded to the no fee option. My question is who is the low life loser who thumbs down ALL of your videos. If you don’t like the channel, don’t watch.

My only success is with the Amex Platinum. Offered $100 off. Took it since I was going to keep the card anyway. No luck with CSP, Amex Everyday Preferred or IHG card. Will try the Arrival Plus in a few months and see.

How does the new One Saphire Rule affect the downgrading options now since we can't downgrade to the reg Saphire from Reserve? Can we downgrade to Freedom directly now?

You can try for a retentions offer for fun, but I don't see them giving any points (nothing to lose though!).

Just tried with AMEX PRG. $50 immediately & $50 after 500 spend 3 months. I was content with that. Essentially cut annual fee in half. Factor in $100 airline credit = 0 AF

Anyone know a good way to get a hold of the retention offer from Cap One? Sadly, it's a card I have had since 2013, and I have called to product transfer to a no fee acct, but they say they cannot. My credit rating was pretty bad when I got this card, but now it's up to 780, and I don't want to keep this card is I have to pay the fee. thanks for any info!!

I average $80K spend on AMEX PLAT. I called before my annual fee was due, and got 30k points added to my account. Nothing big, but it was something!

I tried once, it didn't work. The rep just offered to upgrade me to another card instead. Going to try to call again.

I had to call a few times, but I got an offer on my everyday card. The first few times when I called, the reps weren't all that helpful, they kept asking why I would cancel a card that had no AF; they were offering to help me cancel tbh. The third time, I ended up getting a rep that was wanting me to stay, he offered me 1500 bonus MR points. Even though I wasn't really going to cancel, I just took the offer.

99% of the time, no. Maybe some fringe cases if you're a heavy spender (transaction fees = $$$ for them) but haven't heard those data points. Also, it doesn't make sense to cancel those cards so it would be a weird ask.

Hey a little off topic here but I want to apply for another credit card but I have 7 hard inquiry on my report from car dealership last year in August. Do you think I will get denied because of so many hard inquiries or I should be fine? Credit is 710+, Credit history average 2 years.

Depends on the cards and your income but you should be fine. I know people who have a 725 and 20+ inquiries who are still able to get approved for cards like the Citi Prestige without issue.

EddieM_HD car dealer and mortgage hard inquiries are different from credit card ones. It is normal to shop around for those loans so the algorithm and scoring systems consider them 1 hard pull depending on when all the inquiries occurred.

imperium2000 Thank you. On transunion is only 1 hard inquiry but on experian is 7. It was all done on the same date on August of last year.

Amex promised me a fee waiver and never applied it....this happened months ago. They told me no one gets fee waivers. Reps were supposed to call me back after they "pulled" the call. No one ever does. Still fighting it.

One thing I need to get better about too is documenting my calls; I think it's a lot easier to argue when you're like: "well, Janice mentioned it would be fine. Please see call log #184183 for confirmation."

jabroni005 one thing i noticed abt AMEX is that they have HORRIBLE customer service !! Still waiting on a “call back” from an “investigation” they were suppose to do. NEVER RECEIVED A CALL !!!! this was damn 2-3 weeks ago
