I love the fact that you were polite and encourage your viewers to be polite. Yelling at reps earns you nothing. Agent are even allowed to not give you the offers/benefits they technically can based on how you treat them. Remember that agents who handle cancelations have retention targets and its a win win for both you and them. And try not to game the system too much too. At one point you are going to cost more to retain and the bank is just going to let you go. A good rule of thumb would be, don't apply for a credit card with an annual fee if you can't justify paying that fee for the benefits you get

I want to add that if you barely use the card and/or have missed payments in the past and/or have a low credit score (usually below 700ish) will greatly reduce the chances of getting a good offer. TL/DR Basically how "good customer" you are. Sources: Worked for the industry.

Sebby, an idea for a video that I haven't seen anywhere yet: When do issuers put their points/cash back/sign up bonuses into your account. Seems like Amex takes a little bit to give you your points/sign up bonuses, while most give you at the end of the billing cycle. Are there others like Capital One that posts your cash back as soon as the purchase is posted to your account? Anyway, that could be an interesting video.

My first and oldest credit card is 3 years old. I got it while I was in college (Wells Fargo College Card). My credit history is about 3 years old. If I cancel it will it ruin my credit? Or do I have to keep it the rest of my life? I'm asking because it has no benefit to me because the intro offer expired. The bank is just getting interest.
@John_710
@John_710 5 жыл бұрын
SimmyLexis because the card has no annual fee, it would make no sense to cancel it because it would damage your Average Age Of Accounts, thus hurting your score as it is your oldest card. Just charge a very minimal amount to the card and pay it off in full each month so the bank doesn’t earn interest off of you.

D L what’s your credit age? If you only have that one card, your score won’t really go up. You’ll need like 3 accounts to get it up a bit. My golden rule is 1 new account every 6 months. Don’t get bad cards just to increase number of accounts. Get ones that benefit you and that make sense.

Probably better to keep improving your credit to qualify for a better card with Chase that has a lower APR and a balance transfer, so basically 0% APR for like 18 months. Ideally paying your balance in full every month makes a card's APR moot anyways.

I’d love a review of the Altitude Reserve card. I’m way past my 5/24 and just hit my last Amex slot.
