Thank you for detailed explanation of writing Task 1, bar chart, essay. It would be excellent if you could go through all other Task 1 types. By the way, you are absolutely right that many test takers complicate the essay by putting down minutiae as they cannot differentiate the forest from single trees speaking metaphorically. The ruler technique you advised is so simple but practical. We often underestimate the power of simplicity. Personally, I think that number 1 skill in writing Task 1 essays is an ability to read data, understand and describe it so others can follow it, which I sometimes find difficult.
