How to get BETTER AUTOCORRECT on the Unihertz Titan Pocket!

With the Blackberry keyboard software now unavailable, I had to find a different replacement for the awful Kika keyboard software that comes as default on the Unihertz Titan and the Titan Pocket. I found that Microsoft Swiftkey actually is an improvement in some ways over the Blackberry keyboard software and works very well with QWERTY phones.

Thanks for settings setup, I was hoping for swiftkey and I'm glad I wasn't wrong, it would be the best option even with hw keyb accessories.

Wow I didn't realize SwiftKey was compatible with physical keyboards that's sick! Also your typing speed is insane! Does the symbol key still do anything when you're using SwiftKey? Or is there another way to type the extra symbols that aren't mapped to a physical button?

Wondering the same thing... The Sym key no longer does anything for me, and I'm not sure how to access those symbols at all...

for some reason the fn + sym doesn't work, neither do the ctrl functions. does anyone know why? thanks edit: i just had to program fn as ctrl instead of a magic key. settings > intelligent assistance > shortcut settings > fn key > programmable key > ctrl key

Hmm, the Sym key is no longer functioning at all for me, despite being programmed to Symbol in the Intelligence Assist settings. (Fn is programmed as Ctrl and works fine.) Any suggestions?

Thanks for the video, Swiftly is miles ahead of Kika keyboard. The difference in prediction and language handling is huge. As others have mentioned, the fact that the symbols on the physical keyboard become inaccessible is a hurdle that I hope some day gets addressed by Unihertz or whoever is in charge of the keyboard. Also thanks for the editor suggestion, looks very easy to use!

Yeah the symbol issue does suck if you need to access them frequently. However with the Titan Pocket if you press fn and sym it will give you the keyboard selector pop-up, so it is quick to switch back to Kika when you do need that elusive symbol. Not ideal but it helps to use that shortcut. It would be nice if Unihertz could update the sym key to work with Swiftkey, but I don't know if that would involve some sort of licensing thing with Microsoft.

Also I will be getting the Astro Slide 5G phone this year too, that looks very promising as a physical keyboard phone but the form factor is very different from Unihertz so I'll compare what they are like in daily use once I get it. The Titan phones are not perfect but it's the best we can get at the moment. There is also the F(x) tec Pro 1 X landscape keyboard phone, but they have had a lot of delays with production so that's up in the air at the moment. People have said the original F(x) tec keyboard was mushy, but boy the hinge mechanism on it looks satisfying to pop open 😂

@@huge_balls Also waiting for the AstroSlide here, could check it once and have to say that it will not fit in your shirt`s pocket. However, it might be best as a mini-computer. The Titan Pocket portability is really good, I think the weak point might be the software support side (security updates, etc.) as I have not seen much response in the Unihertz forums regarding such topics.

Hmm so I tried it out and it works good except you don't have access to some symbols anymore. The symbols that were in the virtual symbol keyboard are inaccessible
@huge_balls
@huge_balls 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it depends on how frequently you need to access those few symbols that are not able to be accessed with the alt key. Using the sym-fn key combo to quickly switch back to Kika is the way to do it. Which characters do you need often that swiftkey does not offer?
@badgermccullins6729

Game changer re: the Sym key loss of function!Perhaps others have already figured this out, but if you long-press the Alt key and then long-press a key, an on-screen window will appear with its special symbol variants--e.g., if you long-press Alt and then also long-press the key shared by Y and ) , you get on-screen options for ] , } , and > . Similarly, if you hit Alt followed by the space bar, you get on-screen options for ellipsis, ¥, •, ®, brackets, and more. (This in addition to accents with long-pressing letters, e.g., long-press E for on-screen options including è, é, ê, etc.) (In SwiftKey settings>Layout and Keys, I do have Long-press symbols and Accented characters enabled.)

Also-- - This functionality only appears to work in certain apps -- KZfaq yes, Gmail no, Messenger yes, Keep Notes no. Is there a setting in these other apps that can be changed so that the on-screen special characters selector displays correctly / at all? - So far I have not been able to find an ampersand. Anyone know what key this might be hiding under? - Long-pressing Alt and then holding the backspace key quickly mass-deletes text. Fun!

How do you enter punctuation? It seems that Kika is the only keyboard that works with the Alt key. Is there some configuration that I missed?

Does double space work for adding periods? I've been using SwiftKey with my Titan Pocket for the last few days and it's sick, but that's the one thing that doesn't seem to work
@huge_balls
@huge_balls 2 жыл бұрын
Hm that's a good question. In the settings it appears that option is only for the onscreen keyboard. I always turned double space period off on other phones because I don't care for it, so I didn't even think about it. But yes it would be nice if the option was available for people who want that.

are there any recommended open source keyboards found in F-Droid? I would rather not to "register" or 'subscribe" to keyboard app...
@huge_balls
@huge_balls 2 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, I don't think you need to make an account to use Swiftkey unless you want it to save your autocorrect stuff. You can use it without but yeah I agree, I hate that everything is tied to accounts and personal data these days. There is an app in f Droid called key mapper, and then you can download the key mapper gui keyboard as well. I was able to map the side key to be a ctrl key and I was able to get normal ctrl shortcuts working. Then you can set it so the alt key hides the keyboard. But it's kind of finicky to use. If you find a better alternative, let me know!
@huge_balls
@huge_balls 2 жыл бұрын
Also worth mentioning is that the key mapper app from f droid can probably force remap your side key to the ctrl key in any keyboard including swiftkey, but you'll need to root the phone first.

@@huge_balls Personally i've found that settings -> intelligent assistance -> shortcut keys -> FN key -> programmable key -> ctrl key works good enough. All shortcuts A X C V Z Y are located on left side of keyboard, FN on the right. As for keyboard - goole for "Blackberry Keyboard crackberry". There's thread on forum pointing to OG Blackberry keyboard app, which suits best in my opinion. You have your sticky keys (one press to modify next key), callable symbol table on SYM press, ability to remove predictions and leave only 20px tall bar with keyboard's functions (you event have on screen cursor keys). Srsly, try this one, some folk on Reddit pointed me there and it was just what UTP needed form the beginning.

I would think yes because swiftkey is Microsoft, so there is probably support for other languages. I have not tested that myself however.
