How To Get Both Rewards For Replicated Man In Fallout 3

It is possible to get both rewards during the Replicated Man quest in Fallout 3. After almost completing the quest, when talking to Harkness simply offer him that you will go and take care of Dr Zimmer. Harkness should reward you with the A3-21's plasma rifle. Next, go and talk to Dr Zimmer and tell him about Harkness. He should reward you with the Wired Reflexes perk. Once the dialogue conversation completes, simply take care of him and you should have both rewards.

On a side note prior of starting the quests “ almost “ all Holotapes can be found in Megaton. Additionally, if you did the Power Of The Atom Bomb quests by NOT destroying the city you can freely enter their homes without lock pickpocketing and loosing karma and get their holotapes in their houses freely l, so make sure to do that quests before starting this quest this method seems faster. They’re conveniently in certain houses of Megaton except for the Slave Tape which located in other areas but you can get one conveniently in River City as shown in Mo’s video once you start the quests.

7:47 - Just noticed that Harkness is base on the T1000 character in the Terminator 2 movie. Not only does he look like the character but both are effective in combat and are blending in society by being disguised as people serving the police force or in Harkness's case the security force of Rivet City.

That's an interesting view, it's not something I think I have thought of before. He is a synth but I never really thought of a synth to be like a terminator. He was actually escapitthe institute and the good doctor in River city helped to settle him in by wiping out his memory. But your view is actually very refreshing to think about, a whole new take on things.

@@thrillvilled111 When you put it that way, yeah I think so. What's even strange is if you check both the bodyguard and Dr Zimmer, you will find android components on both of them also, they are also synth but did not know about it.

@@TrappedInFallout It's likely Dr. Zimmer has cybernetics like Kellogg. Armitage the bodyguard is a synth as he warms the player not to do anything malious to Dr. Zimmer.

I did this quest multiple times in order to get both rewards. Greedy little me wasn't happy with just one or the other. Very helpful walkthrough. IIRC I'm pretty sure it was asking Moira Brown about the legend of the android that started the quest for me.

Thanks Hoody, it's an excellent way to get both rewards which is great. The weapon you get is actually a very powerful one and the extra from Zimmer helps too. It's also a nice bonus getting to keep Harnkness, I do like him and opt to always keep him around. When I think about it, doing this quest perhaps should have resulted in him being a companion.

Mine bugged out, so the dialog option for Dr. Preston didnt pop up. All i had to do was locate Pinkerton and get on his terminal, then i went straight to Harkness

If you have blown up Megaton you can still get some tapes but they are all located outside. I'm not sure where exactly but there are a few more across other towns etc. You also get some clues by random noc who approach you while outside.

I wasn't able to get anything from either doctor. The only holotape I've found so far is the one in the church at Rivet City. Supposed to be one in the docs office at Megaton and in docs office in Rivet City but nope, not there, supposed to be one in Craterside but none there. Will check the bus next...

There are some others but they are a little random. There is one where you basically walk around Megaton or Rivet City and at some point a random NPC shows up and talks to you about the whole situation. Other then that I don't recall at this time. I will have to check it out and give myself a refresher. You can try doing the other ones shown in the video and then try the doc again.

Dr Zimmer and his body guard had android components on them i think they were synths too and also what do you do with the dr zimmer keys you find on their corpse

Yeah it basically confirms that they are both Androids or synths. The keys you get allows you to unlock his bedroom and safe which is located on the very top deck in Rivit City. It's worth going and exploring to find out what's there. Last time I looked, just some basic stuff.

There’s a much simpler way to get both rewards though: -If you tell Harken he should go with Zimmer and then pass the more difficult speech check, he will give you the weapon and ask you to tell Zimmer to take him back to the Commonwealth. Speaking with Zimmer will get you the perk. I’m even incline to think this was intended as the canon ending of the quest, as EpicNate later found out that leftover files in FO4 indicate that early during development, Zimmer was supposed to appear in that game. Add that to the fact that the aforementioned outcome in FO3 grants both rewards without any exploits and I’m confident to say that such was the outcome Bethesda originally intended for.

It might be. Sometimes items do not spawn or sometimes they simply get knocked over by other NPCs and then kicked about. You can try reloading an old save file to see of you still have it in an earlier part of the game.

Does Harkness say something different than the video when asked about Zimmer? Bcuz i don't remember having the options in the video. But, yeah, got the rifle, got the perk, killed Zimmer then got Rivet police turn on me.

I'm not entirely sure. With this quest I tend to play it out the way I showed in the video so I am not entirely sure if any vastly different dialogue options. But yeah, as long as you have the relevant rewards then it should be good.

I think they may not always spawn which naturally does not help. Try restarting your game and see if that helps. You may even need to load up an old save file sadly. As long as your triggering the relevant dialogues things should spawn.

The switch to the door is literally on the opposite wall to the door. It throw me off too when I first encountered it as I was a little confused. Basically walk up to the door, turn around and walk to the opposite wall. The switch is on that wall.

Most likely not. After you talk to Zimmer, he finds and takes Harkness away therefore sadly taking away your chance to get the weapon.

Sounds like something went wrong. It should be there, at least the tape as it's not tied to anything. I would reset the game and try again to see if it works.

hi i am playing tales of two wastelands version after i followed the dialog choices with harkness got the gun went back to science lab and Zimmer and bodyguard were not there could they have patched it out in that version ? scrubb that i went back a 3rd time he was just about to walk out got the perk thank you it reminds me of mccready perk in fallout 4

Hey Donald Duck, if the door does not open automatically then there is a switch directly opposite the door, it looks like a large yellow box of sorts. If you press the switch then the door should open. I hope that this answers your question. Many thanks for watching and commenting.

I truly think that the best outcome is that Harkness never finds out about his past… I mean can you imagine the strain of having two memories to deal with every waking moment one memory that’s your own and another that’s not and is someone’s else’s. I think Harkness says it all when you tell him he gos “my life’s a lie” you can hear the pain in his voice. So the most moral choice is to tell Zimmer that he’s dead and give him the chip as proof.

That's a great view, thanks for sharing. From a moral point of view I agree. Taking that view or steps certainly helps. However, how about this view. Ignoring the rewards, if he knows would be not better protect him self as others may come looking for him after Dr Zimmer? It's a very interesting thought process.

The whole area is filled with fumes so yes it can explode sadly. Do make sure to hit the switch and you should be able to just go inside.

Pinkerton is needed for part of the Wasteland Survival Guide quest (History of Rivet City), so if you get to him via the underwater route (which bypasses the need for 100 lockpick to open the front door that's at the end of the metal walkway), make sure you go to the front door and use the switch on the wall to unlock it permanently 👍

@@TrappedInFallout Yes, but if you go to the door after doing the underwater thing and use the switch on the wall, it will open the door permanently so you can always go in the easy way and don't need 100 lockpick 👍

@@TrappedInFallout I finally got to this quest I got both of the rewards. Thanks for all the tips, Moe. For anyone reading this, when going to see Doctor Pinkerton, put on a Radiation Suit and take some Rad X before diving into the water so you only take minimal Rad damage.

Hey Rahnee, thanks for your comment, I'm sorry to hear that your having issues. You first need to talk to Dr Zimmer to start the quest off, once done then you should be able to talk to Dr Preston and take things from there. In terms of the holotapes, they don't actually have a baring on you taking to anyone. They should be just sitting there. It's just that you need to collect them to finish the quest. Let me know how it goes, I hope that this helps.

@@rahneegultiano7648 Sorry to hear that buddy, it could possibly be a glitched of bugged quest. In my video I literally go through the steps. Have you tried perhaps loading up an earlier save file to see if you can get the quest to work? Sorry that I can't be anymore helpful than that, not sure what else to suggest it's your the first person to tell me about this particular issue. Let me know how it goes buddy.

What happens if you blow up megaton before doing this quest

Megaton contains some of those vital clues so that you can then fish for the good Doctor on the other side of Rivet city. That said, if you blow up Megaton then you will have to find the clues in other locations around the wasteland. Off the top of my head I can't think of any but I do know for sure that there are other clues around the wasteland that you can get to continue with the questline.

This could be due to the game essentially trying to catch-up. You can try waiting or sleeping in a bed and seeing if that helps. Altenatively you can find other clues all around the wasteland that would also lead to you being able to uncover Harkness via the NPC inside the sunken part of Rivit City.

He should be there but if he is not then it's not a total loss as he is just one source of getting some clues to then trigger the remaining of the dialogue options with Harkness etc. You can go and find some of the other clues and that should do it.

The way Harkness stood there holding the gun always in the same position and another female security guard behind him was leaning against the wall resting like a normal human being. His behavior already denounced somehow that he was not a normal human.

That's a good observation. When you eventually find out about Harkness, observing his behaviour can at times lead one to see how he can be a little different from normal. At the same time would someone with a similar background behave identically, I'm not too sure myself. I'll be honest, it's not something I thought about before, good eye.

Hey Zoie, thanks for your comment. I know the feeling. It does feel very 'spy' and mission critical. Really it's just exploiting the pick pocket mechanics and for once you don't have to choose as you can get both with a little trick.

@@TrappedInFallout for me I just start the quest with Zimmer, then I warn harknes, then tell him I'll help him and do the one where he gives me his plasma rifle and then I go tell Zimmer where his android is and right after he gives me the perk I delete both of them. So easy so fast

Technically you can go and hunt for all the holotapes if you like before going to Rivet City. But I would suggest you go to Rivet City first and activate the quest to reduce any possible bugs which happen. I hope this answers your question.

The switch for the door is on the opposite wall to the door. Go to the door, turn around by 180 and it should be in the wall opposite. It's like a big red button. It was probably open for me from a previous run.

Yes, it should still be possible. Make sure to speak to Harkness first followed by Zimmer and make sure to take out Zimmer also (although you don't have to do that).

For this guide I decided to go with the tapes that seemed easy to find and even I forgot that there was a tape in that bus. Is just so easy to get and does the trick. I hope that the rest of my video was able to help.

Zimmer has a room assigned to him on the very top deck of Rivet City. From memory it unlocks his door and a safe inside his room if your curious.

I think they patched this method, i did everything you've done in the video, but when i try to kill zimmer, he won't die! Him and his bodyguard will only be unconcious and all rivet city will become hostile to me, at least i've got both of the rewards.

That's very interesting. He can not be taken out, not until you have finished with Harkness, but this is the first time I have heard that's still the case after completing the quest. Oh well, as long as you have both the rewards.

Sorry to hear that David. Yeah, Harness will disappear if you let Dr. Zimmer take him away. Did the Doctor take away Harness or did you 'stop' him from doing that? Basically the last bit of the video where we have to take out both the Doctor and his guard.

You technically don't have to kill Dr Zimmer. Just talk to him and tell him you've found the android and he will give you your reward. Once he walks away you can choose to let him take Harkness back to the Institute or kill him to prevent that from happening. Either way you get both rewards.

@@tac12gaming9 Yes you can. Instead of finding clues in Megaton you will instead have to travel to other places for the clues. In short yes, you can. You don't have to have Megaton to finish the quest. Megaton was just easier to use because it was simple to navigate.

Thanks for your comment. That might be one of the NPC who talks to you about freeing synths in general. She is actually worth talking to as she can give you one of a clue that you can use for this quest.

There are some other placed where you can get some further clues including a random encounter with some NPCs that do give clues. But they are random.

Hey Lucifre, thanks for your comment. If Megaton was blown up then sadly that means you won't be able to get the holotape. However there are a couple of other locations that you can visit that will provide you with the clues that you need. One location is in The Underworld where you can talk to Doctor Barrows. Another is to talk to Lucy in Little Lamplight. I hope that this helps.
