As a hotel chief engineer, I have all the skills to work on appliances and know all the basics of how appliances work. I just need more hands on time with a variety of newer appliances. Ive been wanting to start my own appliance/hvac repair business, so thank you for this.

I work as an license appliance repair technician here in Alberta Calgary. How I got started? I was working in a warehouse that sell appliance as a warehouse clerk, after a few years working I walked up to the appliance repair manager and asked for an opportunity, luckily got it and started it. they first trained me in the shop for about a year, a no stress, spacious environment where I could learn and make my own mistake, during that period I slowly learn and gather up for more tools that I actually need, after a year they put me through the schooling and started putting me out onto the field with some other technician first, from there I learn more. After a few months I started going out on my own. Now I changed to commercial appliance repair, better $ but sometimes I miss those stress free days working in the shop.

Hey mate, from Australia here. You mentioned good place to start would be fundamentals of wiring and appliances. Any specific course would you recommend to a beginner?

I was in the business for 3 years doing warranty work and I got pretty knowledgeable on breaking down units and figuring it out. I stopped because I realized my schematic troubleshooting skills were terrible. My question is, should I learn this from working for a company or take a course like master samurai etc? Love the channel

I'd say do MST 100%. I kinda show and teach my new guys schematics in the field but MST is very in depth and thorough so all new hires go thru that right away.

Where can we work on broken appliances? Don't we need a place with a 240V outlet for the dryer?
@theapplianceprofit

Yes you do, I just put one on the outside of my house. I put up an outdoor box. It's really for an rv, but it's the same as a dryer plug.

Hi, thank you for sharing such useful information. You're doing a great job! I am working as dispatcher (customer service) for an appliance repair business receiving inbound calls, we get a lot of calls from clients who just looking to know prices on how much would be service call fee, repair fee, and complete estimate repair fee, installation fee, repair quotes and the these people do not schedule appointments in the end by saying they'll think about it or maybe will call back but they never do neither do they respond to our follow up texts and I'm sure you must have also dealt with such people over the call and got to know about such people from your customer support person. Could you please share any idea or advice on how to overcome with this issue and somehow schedule an appointment with these types of people. Appreciate your help
@theapplianceprofit
@theapplianceprofit Жыл бұрын
Honestly, we personally don't try to "win them over". The reason why is because most of the time, if people are already asking about pricing in the beginning, they will not want to pay the cost of the repair. So I'd almost rather not try to waste a ton of energy "winning" over these people. The secret is, configuring and tweaking your advertising materials (Google Ads) to target customers that are willing and able to pay for your service!

@@theapplianceprofit I agree but actually the business owner says he is learning to run these Google ads and gets upset at me for not scheduling appointments with these types of people. Tells me to use sales pitch or somehow convince them to schedule which really makes me worried as well since I try to do my best to schedule these type of people. Was hoping maybe there might be a sales technique or tip but thank you for the response.

Yeah I'm sorry I really don't have any good suggestions for this issue only because we literally steer away from those types of clients. Those clients don't want to pay, they want to complain about issues that you didn't cause, such as "well my refrigerator wasn't making this noise until you touched it"... I have just seen waaaay too much over the years, and do not desire to win them over. But hopefully your boss will get a good grasp of Google and start getting the right customers ringing the phone.

I cant find anywhere to hook up an appliance , specifically washers and dryers

Washers are extremely easy, you have to have a 110v outlet outside your house somewhere. And then a water spigot. The dryer, you will need a 240v source. I made a long power cord that I can connect to an existing dryer or stove receptacle. Or wire up one outside your house.

Hello bro I'm a technician I have like 1 year experience and I'm working now for a company doing calls for them I'm doing like 10/13 calls a day I'm thinking to go own my way I need advice should wait until I get more experience or?? I read schamatic and wiring diagram I'm real technician not parts change with diagnostic I have some recalls but not much
@theapplianceprofit
@theapplianceprofit Жыл бұрын
A year of experience is actually pretty good. One of my newer techs has not been with me even a year yet and he is doing great! Of course, he does have to call me for advice every once in a while, but for the most part, he does good. So I imagine you do pretty good as well, especially if you can read diagrams!!

@@theapplianceprofit I read diagrams and do how professional techs do ..... I know how appliances works so it's easy to know how to diagnostic.. I just I'm little bit afraid from high end appliance like subzero and viking Miele etc is not easy to disassemble them and is good idea to work with manufacturer warranty?
@theapplianceprofit
@theapplianceprofit Жыл бұрын
Sub Zero's are probably the easiest to work on actually. I'm not a fan of warranty work but you could do that.

Hi, I live in a small town, I am a technician of cell phones and video game consoles, but I would like to expand my services as it is not the same as living in a city, do you think it is a good idea if I add appliance repair? and thus be able to generate something extra.
@theapplianceprofit
@theapplianceprofit Жыл бұрын
I would definitely add appliance repair. I'm not sure how busy you are with what you are currently doing, but my guess is, the appliance repair would exceed what you are doing now!

It spends on how you want it to be structured. You can do either of those or even sole proprietor. But you may want to ask a CPA about that kind of stuff
