I was getting FREE 5 gal buckets from a grocery store bakery. They were so kind, called me when they had some.... Eventually I , on occasion, realized I was drawing some attention from a couple of employees as to what I was doing with them... So I started going at 7:00 a.m.when the store just opened for the day. As always, be mindful of who might be paying a little too much attention to you! ❤️🇺🇸👍💪🙏

My daughter went to a local grocery store bakery and asked about buckets. They were so tickled they had them piled to the ceiling in the back room, and just begged her to take more and more of them. She thanked them for them even offered to pay. The next time she went back, they were mean and grouchy and said, no, we don’t have any!!!! I thought what the heck?!

we lie , or i call it throwing off , i tell folks i am growing potatoes in them ( we do grow in pots here but 10 gallon tubs we get for $4 each ) , and have a couple videos i can send real quick to give examples of growing veges in buckets , if they push and ask why buckets we explain the soils not good here , pretty toxic really .. its sad but , so its safer in buckets with potting mix ..... shuts them up and they lose interest

I keep all of my glass and plastic containers and their lids from salsa, peanut butter, coffee, creamer, olives, iced tea mix, pickles and so on and use those for storing a lot of things....food and otherwise. Even if buckets and lids are NOT food safe, I use those to store things like first aid supplies, bars of soap, cleaning rags and so on in.

I've been using those Classico jars for years also! And yes, I think they are thicker than Ball jars as well. Omg BUCKETS!! I was at my egg lady's house the other day. She got 18 pickle buckets from some guy at Chick Fil A. Now only a few of them had lids. She said she'd just plant a tomato or pepper in those. They weren't white though. They were green. Any time I've ever asked places for buckets I've had no luck. So, I just stopped trying. Obviously, people like my egg lady have hook ups I guess.

I got free opaque 35 gallon barrels with the lids from my local soda pop bottling company. They are glad to get rid of them. Had a little pop syrup residue I cleaned out but was great. I covered them with dark tarps so bacteria wouldnt grow in the sun. Used them to store emergency water. Figured i could always use my Berkey or purification tabs & boiling to sterilize it.

My daughter works at a fruit stand..they make fresh pies there. She got me a dozen of the 5 gallon buckets & some 3 gallon ones too. I love them to store dry foods in. I had been buying them from wallys for $1 each. Then some lady (a friend of one of the employees) had her save them for her. My son bought me a jar sealer (it's a single one that's recharable) I've been vacuum sealing jars of dry food. IE: oats, cream of wheat cereal & rice. It's so great. Only takes 20 seconds to seal the jar. I do freeze the food for a few days then let it come back to room temp before I jar it up.

I got a lot online, 5 gallon food grade buckets with the lid for $1.00 each. I bought 60 of them. I thought I found a gold mine with them. I have stored so much in them. Any food that is in glass jars, I buy if my family likes it. I reuse the jars and the lids. Sauce jars, pickle, olives, sauerkraut, 5 pounds of honey jars, gallon glass jars that I get from Costco that has honey, ginger and lemon in it, large glass jars of preserves or jelly. Liquor bottles that are glass, I store rice, or orzo or spices in it for short term storage whatever we use within 3 to 6 months. I make sugar syrup ahead of time and put them in glass bottles so I don't have to make it that often. I put my home made vanilla extract in the glass bottles, also oregano tinctures. I have my friends giving my glass liquor bottles, because we don't drink. I wash them out and reuse them. We save the Arizona ice tea gallon bottles, made with heavy duty food grade plastic and we store water in it. I have yet to have any of them leak. Have to reuse and save our food in it. Keep prepping everyone. 🇺🇲

Jinnie, I get all my buckets from our do-nut shops around our area. $.50 for buckets, $.50 for gasket lids. $1.00 for a five gallon set up is a heck of a good deal and I store as many as I want by adding an oxygen absorber and a dry packet, then stack 'em high in the sides of the garage.

Thank you for your video. My first fifty buckets were recycled. Then I gave up and started buying them new. $10 for a new bucket and lid and I'd buy 10 at a time. Back then it took me awhile to fill 10 buckets. Not so slow these days. I filled the last ten buckets in under six weeks. Brag, brag. BUT! I've lost count of those things too. It's always a good sign when you have so many you lose count. IMHO. I've graduated to 45 and 35 gallon food grade barrels now. They are great for the big bulk buys like Rice and Beans. And the God's of the discount bins were good to me today. I found lots of goodies with 50% off stickers. Last week it was four jars of Parmesan cheese. That stuff never goes bad and I just took a jar of Parmesan out of storage that I put there four years ago at least and it's still good as gold. Keep up the great work and good luck

And if you end with too many there are many other uses for those buckets. I took some 3 gal square bakery buckets to store my products for my vending booth. They stack up neatly under the table. I also like this size for not being too heavy even full of heavy items, that way most anyone can help carry it.

Talenti gelato was on sale at Kroger, and I love saving the containers with their lids for buttons, sewing needles, and other notions, and my husband uses them for nails, etc because he can fit his hand in there. May I suggest cleaning and keeping sturdy plastic containers from food items to give away or trade small amounts of food? I also use them to send left-overs home with family members so they don't have to bother to return containers. The biggest problem is finding glass containers. I use 3 liter soda bottles for rice and beans/lentils, and Gatorade/Powerade bottles. I have a few glass soda and wine bottles from other people and use them for some dried items. I use Classico jars from my son, and salsa jars, pickle jars, any glass jar I can get my hands on. I use plastic peanut butter jars for dehydrated items, as well as sturdy plastic other containers. I have a lot of buckets from bakeries, but they are hard to store.

Great video, Jinne! I have been saving the big plastic jars that had peanut butter in them; they don’t have a rubber gasket, but they will hold smaller amounts that I can keep in my working pantry. I save my husband's empty iced tea bottles, too. Anything glass. We don’t buy pop, so I have only a limited number of them. But I have put out the word to others, who willingly bring what they have collected. I use the plastic Solo cups for starting seeds for my garden, so I'm planning to ask for those at the end of every family reunion. Like you said, I will gladly wash them since they are my favorite price! These are a bit pricey, but as far as lids for food buckets, I have purchased a set of the Gamma lids for the buckets I will be working out of. Once you get them settled tightly on a bucket, you don't want to have to transfer them to another! Whew! So I thought I'd use a different (cheaper) lid on other buckets of the same food. For instance, if I have 2 buckets of beans, one bucket will have a Gamma lid, and I'll work out of that bucket 1st. When it's empty, I'll pour the beans out of the bucket with the cheaper lid into the one with the Gamma lid, and work out of it.
@UpNorth069

I think I'd do the opposite - use the ones with the cheaper lids first, THEN use from the Gamma lid buckets. JMO, though😊

Where do you store all of these buckets? I have a one bedroom apartment and a garage. The garage is not climate controlled so there is excessive temperature ranges.

You can store under your bed , or under your couch if it is off the floor. Any place you can store inside or under as long as it is protected is good.

@@bettyc.parker-young1437yes I store in those places but no way a 5 gallon bucket fits in either place.

You could store non food Preps in your Garage, & put a food filled 5 Gallon bucket on each end of your Sofa, cover them in matching fabric, they'll look like end tables, no one will know. Do the same with your bedside cabinets too. Also you can put book shelves behind Sofas, & fill with tins of food it'll look like an ordinary Sofa shelf. You've probably done these already, so just ignore my waffling on. Lol. 🤗

Lol, I had to pause and go look at my spaghetti sauce preps. I do get the Classico but didn't realize about the different lids they use. I have a mix. I 'm wiser now. Thank you. 😊 Do you know if canning lids fit the style without the screw lines? Thinking for dehydrated foods. I haven't been successful in ridding original lids of odors. 😒
