I literally raced my first race this past Saturday. Had a blast. I was HORRIBLE. But I had a blast. Raced a Tekno ET48.3. And Spec Slash. Had more fun at spec slash, I was able to drive it better etc, but the Tekno was completely new to me. And my tires had half tread. Can’t wait to get more into it. I’m getting used models of the 4 main classes we run here that I am interested in. Going to see which class I prefer and get to know the sport better, then focus on a couple etc. Glad to have a good club here. 1:8 buggy is big here 1:8 truggy pretty big Spec slash big 1:10 2wd buggy pretty big 1:10 4wd big 1:10 etruggy Hard pack dry dirt track.

My biggest issue when I raced was my inability to keep up with the Jonses due to lack of funding lol. Ended up quitting and selling off all my cars and equipment. Fast forward 22 years and my 13 year old son was bit by the bug a few years ago and still going strong. I now live vicariously through my son and with much better financial support. Who knows, I may get back into it.......

Great video. I love that you got to interview somebody at a store to give a different perspective. The tips about the radio was most interesting part to me. I'd love to see a video dedicated just to radios, and what to look for

Great video, I’m so thankful to have 6 tracks (4 outdoor 1/8 tracks, 2 1/10 carpet tracks) within a hour and a half from my house. I wouldn’t have learned all I have if it wasn’t for my local RC shops! Definitely swing by yours and pick up and car!

I noticed that transponders seemed to have been overlooked in the whole "how much to start" conversation. A lot of tracks don't have transponders for loan that I have ever been to. So you would either have to find another racer who had an extra transponder you could borrow, which can a lot of the time be a pain if it's been registered at the track or online. Or you have to buy a transponder for yourself, which most tracks run MyLaps and those transponders tend to run in the range of 80 used to 125-130 new at the track. So that's definitely an added expense.

Anyone looking to get into racing I want to add a couple things: 1. Totally agree on getting a good radio. Sanwa MT5 or Futaba T4PM. It is a lot of money but they hold their value so well and most importantly they truly help you feel more in tune with the car. 2. See if you can find a used race kit from someone local if you’re starting out. Best place to look is at the track on a race day. When I first got into 8th scale I got a 1 generation old ebuggy completely ready to go for $550. 8th scale isn’t quite as daunting as it may seem

Great video. Picked up two ET410.2 truggy's for my 8yr old son and myself to do a little indoor dirt racing. He's been on the trigger since he was 3 and goes balls to the wall with his 8s xmaxx, sledge, etc etc etc. Now he gets to learn real control lol. Have to give him credit, he is damn good with back flips, front flips and landing good. Good control there. Luckily for us I have known the hobby shop track owner for many many years. She told me what to get. Said to start out in sportsman class first and then go from there.

I enjoyed the video and I think it's very helpful. I am sure it will help a lot of people. For beginners the Slash is always a good choice. It's also a truck that the new driver can take home and run on almost any surface. At the off road tracks in our area 17.5 2WD drive buggy is always the biggest class. In some areas they're now running 21.5 2wd buggy. Even in the parking lot races there are people of all ages running the 2WD buggy class. They are easier to work on than 4WD buggies in my opinion. I think you can go to most off road tracks in the country and find a 2WD buggy class. It was a great idea to do this video.

Just got back into it a couple weeks ago. Had local shop/ indoor outdoor track back in 2014 I had a few slash’s, sc10’s and RC8.2E. Shop closed only a few months into it so I ended up selling it all shortly after. Played some VRC pro and decided to look online to find the old shop owner started a new shop around 2018 In Large shopping mall only 5 minutes from me. Went in and got a SC10 pro4 to start and a few days ago I went in wanting an Associated but ended up with a 2WD TLR 22 5.0 roller kit and everything to finish it. Really wanted 1/8th scale and a trigger but clay track is 10th scale and nowhere other tracks around. So I’m going to start with 10th scale local and build a Truggy and 1/8th scale in future.

Would love to have an indoor track like this near me in GA. Love 1/10 scale the most. Don’t love the packed clay surface- wish it were loose dirt like the good old days. Hope the hobby widens a bit. The early 90’s was a phenomenal time to race.

most racing sports have died out since then except real racing which is slowly growing again. But i used to do slot car racing in the early 2000s and went to look at getting back into it and the sport is virtually dead here in america as it does seem rc has taken it over.

awesome hobby shop you got there, my lhs is kinda on the small side though they run a track out back starting in april threw august i believe. oddly they dont stock much in pats for racers. mostly traxxas stuff that makes you smile i bet, to me makes me think they break alot. lol

I am glad you pointed out some of the flaws on the MAXX I am going to be buying the MAXX for my next rc car so when I do I will go ahead and put the upgrades in it from the beginning my other rc cars are Traxxas rustled and a SNAP ON slash brushless 4x4 with a wider chasis I love playing around with rc cars as a hobby

In terms of RTRs to play around with I LOVE the losi DBpro on clay tracks. Unfortunately my track only races slash’s for 10th scale but man, for just messin around the DBpro handles so much better than any other 10th scale I’ve driven. Like a mosquito on water if you get a better servo 5:00 MARK, YA MESSED UP IN A BIG WAY BUD! 🤣🤣 Not your fault though you were busy

2wd buggy will teach you to drive too. and ask about tires most drivers will tell you or make a suggestion. and if you consider buying a used vehicle, make sure it is still supported or parts are available. that really fancy Yokomo buggy isnt so nice when you cant find parts for that model anymore.. they may have yokomo parts but not parts for a 5ryr old buggy.

im just getting into rc's and my biggest question is the frequencies and how you change it? my remotes dont have this function im guessing i need to approach the higher dollar range before this becomes an option? or can you change any old transmitter and reciever ?? i got 2 toprace construction vehicles both at same frequency. was hoping to use both at same time :( is there any damage to the transmitter or reciever when running 2 at the same time? i was using both and all of a sudden the truck slammed into reverse and started operating the arm without any input from the transmitter. even when the transmitter is off the truck just goes ape shit. tried charging battery to full, no reset on my transmitter... so many questions i have lol

You can get a Fsgt3 for 50 bucks and recievers are 13 bucks cheap that's what I use to race I don't understand all the bells and whistles it doesn't have to be that crazy expensive.

The thing I really dislike about associated is when a car generation is over, the parts are just discontinued and hard to find. I gave up running my TC4 once the parts started to really, really get hard to find.

Yeah its so annoying. I like to research upgrade parts for my cars before I even purchase them now. If what I want is still available, even after years of production id go for it. Especially if parts are on amazon. Too easy

yes but I wouldn't go further than an indoor 1/10 track with the MX6. You would want to go to the MT5 or better for 1/8 vehicles for racing.

I'd incorporate both a speedway and a crawler section into one course with certain obstacles and feats for extra points. The racers would get the best of 3 in of their timed run, which has to be recorded and witnessed by a race official, aka me. With this timed point system way, racers can run the track/course at their convenience and still qualify for any prizes.
