They see tens of thousands of applications a year, so maybe try looking up 'how to get into UCLA.' Be prepared. And, if you're in 7th grade, your grades don't matter. Attendance doesn't matter. _Only the grades you get in high school matter_ Well, not only- but you get what im saying!

ucla and other uc schools don’t look at freshman year so they only use grades 10-11 for your cumulative gpa,, so i’m guessing that’s what happened in her situation

Don’t burn yourself out in middle school. In high school that is when you have to try your best. Take many ap classes, join clubs, and do community service. Make sure to connect with your teachers and just keep your grades up. Junior year you should be getting ready with many scholarships but that’s long time to go. @@anja6645 I don't know how to calculate the GPA in Serbia but this is how we calculate our GPA at my school (USA) A=90-100 B=80-89 C=70-79 D=60-69 E/F=59 and below A is worth 4 points, B is worth 3 points, C is worth 2, D is worth 1 points and E/F is worth 0(A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, E/F=0) Now look at your grades from all of your classes and see where they fall in! Then add all of them by how much points they are worth! When you got the total, you divide them by the number of classes you have! Bam you have your GPA! For example: This is my GPA •English 10- 84 (B) •Spanish 3- 91(4) •Biogeochem- 90 (4) •Algebra 3- 97 (4) •LSN- 94 (4) •AFROTC- 100 (4) •Health- 98 (4) •Constitutional law- (90) 3+4+4+4+4+4+4+4=31 I have a total of 8 classes, so I'm going to divide 31 by 8 31÷8=3.875 So my GPA is 3.875

prynce butera I’m actually in the IBDP (Diploma Program) right now and honestly, it just depends on the individual. IB requires you to do a lot of the work independently and forces you to think critically. The tests are engineered to have very little, if any, MC style questions which means it requires you to understand the material thoroughly. Also, you do quite a bit of independent research through your IAs and EE. There’s also the experience of being in a cohort and, in my experience, having a generally smaller class size compared to AP classes. I’m a Junior right now and coming towards the end of the school year, I don’t regret joining the program, despite what others might say about it. I took AP European history sophomore year and currently, I’m taking AP Statistics as well as 4 HL classes and comparing the two, I honestly prefer my IB classes to my AP classes. But as I said, it’s a matter of preference. My only advice is to not let other people influence your decision because what might not be right for them may be right for you.

Not everyone's an early bloomer; many bloom late and eventually go to a four-year college. California has a community-college system if you're able to come to the US, which just requires high school diploma to get in. And a lot of the Internationals who attend UCLA and the other UCs come from these two-year colleges, which ends up being two years in cc and two years at UCLA. The point is not to give up.

Also, your hs not having APs could mean that it's either a really high-rated private school, with honors and APs built into its curriculum, or it can be a bad public hs, which just don't have them. UCLA will know about your school, which one it is and adjust. But if you do attend a bad school, I'd think about dual enrolling at your local community college and take college courses while still in hs.

MrCheckHammer you should look on the UC of California website as well as check if you’re taking all their required classes (2 Years of language is required)

Ashot Akopov AP Bio in 10th grade? That’s impressive, usually most 10th graders take Chemistry. But your ability to comprehend the English language shouldn’t hold you down, though it’d be nice if you took AP Language and Composition as well as AP Literature. However, if you don’t take those classes, the best tip is to take about 4 AP classes your Junior and Senior year. That’s usually the standard.

Most of the students who come to US to study are from either China, nearly 400k, or India, nearly 200k, and this is reflected at UCLA and the rest of the UCs. There are 12k students from Britain, which seem to be the most of all the European nations. For UCLA, the admissions website breaks down the numbers for students from CA, the other 49 states, and Internationals. Here's a link: www.admission.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_fr/Frosh_Prof20.htm As you can see, the weighted grades for Internationals is lower, but their ACT/SAT scores are the highest of the three groups. This is because there isn't the weighting factor of grades at foreign schools, internationally based or otherwise, assuming you don't have to worry about TOEFL and English proficiency. But, also, there are a good portion of Internationals that transfer into UCLA from California community colleges (CCCs). There are some CCCs that cater to the International set. For the tab setting, the selections above the data, you have to go to "TR Eth by Yr" which means Transfer Ethnicity by Year, and then click on Los Angeles for campus. These will show you the international-friendly community colleges in CA. For instance for 2019, from Santa Monica College (SMC), there were 83 students who transferred to UCLA. Besides, SMC is THE transfer community college to UCLA, and a lot of Internationals who want to go to the University attend SMC with desires to go to UCLA. Some need to work on their English, and some probably just didn't get in from their native schools. All the best!

I was just looking for a thread I could tag her on to bring this up because I don't think she saw this. So she started badly, 2.8, but she picked things up and graduated with a 4.0 uw and 4.3 wgpa. Just so you'll know, UCLA and all UCs remove the plusses and minuses from gpa calculation as does Stanford. So as an example let me figure the UC gpa for someone with say the following, having taken 6 of what they call a-g courses per each of the four semesters in soph and jr years with the following grades for 24 courses: "A" grades, 18 courses (assuming high school has same units per course), 18 * 4 = 72 grade points (same +/- regular calculation, 72 grade points, also for UC, A+ grade is still 4.0) "A-" grades, 4 courses, 4 * 4 = 16 grade points, (+/- : 4 * 3.7 {or 3.67} = 14.8 grade points) "B+" grades, 2 courses, 2 * 3 = 6 grade points (2 * 3.3 {or 3.33} for regular calculation = 6.6) (a) Total grade points for UC unweighted calculation, 72 + 16 + 6 = 94 (b) Total grade points for +/- calculation, 72 + 14.8 + 6.6 = 93.4 UC unweighted GPA = 94 / 24 courses = 3.917 Plus/Minus unweighted gpa 93.4 / 24 = 3.892 *************************************************************************** For weighted UC gpa, you're allowed 2 courses per semester of weighted courses, so assume that the student is like Ally and is from California. If from CA, honors and APs (and IBs) are all weighted. (If not from CA, honors is not weighted, but AP and IB are.) So let's assume that this student had taken 10 honors and APs in soph and jr years. (c) Calculation of fully weighted gpa, assuming for high school purposes. For this, we can add 10 points to (b) above = 93.4 + 10 = 103.4 grade points; which results in a fully wgpa of 103.4/24 = 4.308 f-WGPA (d) Calculation of UC weighted gpa. For this, we add 6 points (2 per each semester) to (a) so we get 94 + 6 = 100 grade points, and 100/24 = 4.167 UC weighted or UC GPA. **************************************************************************** So for this student we have Unweighted GPA of 3.917 for UC calculations Unweighted GPA of 3.892 essentially per her high school Fully weighted GPA of 4.308 calculated for UC purposes UC GPA (known as capped GPA) of 4.167 UC caps GPA for all students because there are some high schools that have a lot more APs and honors classes. So the UC system tries to even out the differences in high schools. But UCLA does look at uweighted, fully weighted, and UC gpa. Most of the other UCs look at mainly UC, except for UCB which does kind of what UCLA does.

attend an international baccalaureate high school. i know there is a few in Berlin. there is some up north near Denmark, I'm from Denmark. and i know there is down south. as long as you take IB you can easily finish CAS which can legit be a very good thump up for US universities, and you apparently get credit for classes if you take IB (which i have no idea what does)

ap classes! i am planning to take lotssss and def music and go outside of school and do other things like for us we have science olympiad and math olympiad first improve on grades and study study study!

maybe consider NUS - National University of Singapore. It isn’t very hard to get into, is quite cheap compared to other prestigious schools (about $21,000 US Dollars) and is currently the *11th best university in the world* (better than Princeton, Cornell and Yale). I’m not sure what GPA you need for NUS but I do know that for Australians, you need to get a minimum of a 90 ATAR score which basically means you need to be in the top 10% of your state.

I did speech and debate, I cofounded an app, and also was writing a fashion blog. I think they definitely mattered a bit, but more likely because they were unique extracurriculars, not necessarily because they were super prestigious or outstanding extracurriculars

AnnandaMichelle that’s not terrible but it’s not optimal for UCLA. You’re going to have to take some ap’s and higher level classes because they only actually look at sophomore and junior year when looking at grades and that’ll boost your uc gpa. However, do not take so many ap’s to the point where you are overwhelmed because that could screw you over really bad. At the end of the day, the college that you go to isn’t as important as some people make it seem so even if you don’t get in it’ll be alright.

Haha I’m from Granada too! I knew those classes looked too familiar. That’s a very good start, the B in physics doesn’t really matter because it doesn’t affect GPA and the fact she took it as a freshman shows she’s willing to challenge herself. She’s taking algebra 2 as a freshman which is pretty good also. I’m taking it now as a sophomore and I regret not doing geometry over the summer. Lastly, I wanted to say it’s awesome your a parent watching videos like these to be able to inform your kid and be up to date with them. Mainly grades from transfer-from institution. Priority to community college transfers, than inter-UCs. GPA needed depends on major that you apply to.
