Really felt eerie and sad to me that when opening the book on BDSP timeline and reading it, you knew that YOU are the one having that adventure, and that happened in a distant past and became history.

Starting the quest, its stated that the book already exists, its just lost. Iscan mentions it but can't remember what it says. It acts as a hint for those with BDSP and good memories, telling you the title so you can find it yourself.

Been wanting to use a Manaphy in a playthrough for a while and since BDSP wasn't super intriguing I'm glad we've got the opprotunity in this game. At least for a decent chunk of the story.

Yeah Manaphy and those Phione were shockingly more aggressive than I thought they’d be. I managed to catch them all though. The money I got from those comet shards helped me get one of those certain very expensive items from Ginter. It turned out to be useful and definitely worth it.

I think it's cool how hard it is. Stuff with 0 hints makes some puzzles really great imo. It lets the community work together to solve something most of the time. Plus it wasn't that difficult as rumors of a quilfish evolution was predicted due to the book in BDSP meaning it was already on peoples mind.

If you don’t have any stunning items to lower their “shields”, you can also use your pokeballs containing your Pokémon. This will also get you quick into battles with the mons incase you’re not so good at dodging.

I'm so confused how this wasn't the quest you had to have BDSP for. It feels like this and Darkrai should be swapped because there wouldn't be a way to really know on your own unless you had the other games where as Darkrai is pretty separated from both the story and BDSP so he just feels like a side quest

@@monkeymask9596 no but they mean that the Darkrai quest in PLA is locked unless you have BDSP. But this Manaphy quest, that requires information from BSDP, is *not* locked. They should have swapped them around. Also; Zarude & other Galar pokemon were readily available in the most recent mainline games so making them secret quest in this game is kind of a boring idea

honestly i wouldn't praise this choice for the quest, why would you need to remember a random one liner from a game you played 2 months ago (or might not have even played at all) and are given absolutely no context as to how to complete the quest at all, because its not even in the game. If you HAVE to search up on the internet how to complete something because ingame there's 0 indication, thats a terrible design choice.

Tbf that’s what happened if for the Regis in RSE back then. You were gonna struggle with them if you didn’t have the guides. Other than a guide which the internet was different back then compared to recent times. And that was due to knowing braille along with Relicanth & Wailord. Catching the Regis in ORAS isn’t that big of a deal due to the video guides these days.

@@FireheartSamurai RSE came with a Braille translator apparently. So if you got a new copy in box you could do it without any outside help. And even then, asking an adult would get them to help out if they knew what Braille was right? In this case, you need information from a separate $60 game. Just because there's online guides doesn't make it less BS

I get not wanting to get additional information from a separate game that’s like $60usd tho. Since there’s people will argue it’s behind a paywall even if that information is online tho.

I had seaside hollow marked on my map from the very beginning. I could even go inside the cave (it was just empty). So "You hear a boulder moving" doesn't make sense to me as there wasn't a boulder, to begin with.

i died the first time.. the next time i battled them one by one.. i didnt know how i did it cause i dont stun them. but it took a lot of effort to catch all 4 of them.

I had an easier time with this than I expected. When I walked in, I quickly broke the shield of one of the Phione (I threw two Pokeballs, actually didn't mean to but it worked out in the end) and was able to send my Alpha Goodra into battle (It was the Alpha Sliggoo from the Crimson Mirelands raised up to level 60). It resists Manaphy's and Phione's attacks due to its Dragon/Steel typing, so even though it was a 4 on 1 battle, none of their attacks hit me very hard. It took a while and was a bit annoying, I won't lie, but it worked, and I was able to catch all four. I did the Phiones' first and did Manaphy last.

You need to be level 5 to unlock it, it only unlocked for me after reaching that level. This was after I quelled arcanine so it’s not completely tied to that I think. It may be tied to both, but definitely your level comes into play.

Here a little fun fact, with the Manaphy and Phione wild battle in Arceus, the only Mythical Pokémon pre-gen 5 to not have had a wild battle is Jirachi in the main series games. Gen 5 has only had Victini and, with the Sword/Shield game, Keldeo in his resolute form. Meloetta and Genesect have not had a wild battle encounter, though they did have some cute events in B2/W2 like Meloetta dancing before changing form for the first time. And any mythical Pokémon from gen six onwards has never been in a wild catchable battle, I don't even think any post gen 5 mythical Pokémon even has any in game events... at least not that I can remember. I kind of hope for future games they start to incorporate more little events for the mythicals instead of just giving you the Pokémon and the items that change that Pokémon's form. I miss when getting mythical Pokémon had little events in game even if it wasn't catching them in a wild battle. :p Also for me the cave for the Manaphy quest was open by default. I ended up going into it before beating the lord of the area and figure it was for a later encounter as it was completely empty. Not sure if there was supposed to be a bolder blocking the entrance that disappeared after completing the requirements that didn't spawn or what.

Yeah, when I was playing BDSP and I heard about a new canalave library book and read it, I also thought that Arceus would have created a sort of paradox or some sort of time travel thing. At least with whatever “dimension” of the Pokémon world BDSP is considered.

I totally called it though, as soon as I saw the “gate” in the trailers, I called it that it would involve manaphy. I had HOPED you’d be able to actually explore manaphy’s underwater castle thingy like in the movie in a quest, but knew that probably wouldn’t happen. But stuff like that is what gamefreak should have done in this game I think. Maybe in 10 years when this type of game becomes even better we will have adventures like that for side quests. And even main quests.

Hey Austin when you get to the land trios lander torn thunder if you use a stealth spray you can literally walk right up to them. Also if you use preferred cakes on ANY POKEMON alphas included when you aim a poke ball while they are eating the cursor will always turn green. Man I love this game lol. The first thing they do is separate into 4 directions, one of which is the entrance. If you wait for it to come to you then break the shield (hitting them once with your own pokeball is enough to break their shield) before any of them attack the others will be far enough away that you can enter into a one on one battle with them. Not only that but you can leave the interior after catching one to heal and when you reenter the cave the cycle will restart and a different one may come to the entrance. You can capture them one at a time, without sticky globs, without being attacked, without leaving the entryway. The reason you’ll probably want to do this is because they all are attacking independently of each other from different distances if you aren’t in the center so their attacks will reach at different times leaving no room to dodge with the spread and when you get hit the next one will arrive just after your invincibility window is up so you’ll get hit multiple times each volley. If you’re looking for a good Pokémon to fight them with none of the Phione have any effective moves against Hisuian Samurott but Manaphy has a super effective one. I think it was because of Samurott’s dark typing if I’m not misremembering.

A way to do this also is hard save while at the start of the fight rather then before if you are confident enough as I'd you restart after you die you can just insta try again at full hp

Tip, Austin, don’t try to sneak in a throwable, just rush in and hit one, their attacks home in anyways, and hit one with a Pokémon, so you don’t have to press x so quickly, and it only takes 1 hit

I beat the game this morning. I have all 242 Pokemon and they all have 10 points or more. Took me around 80 hours total. I think the game is really good. Wish the game had voice acting, some more non-nature environments to explore, and I wish there was something to do with all the strong pokemon you collected at the end. Was not a huge fan of the wisp and unown quests - found all the wisps myself, but I needed google to find the unown. Cherubi was also a real pain to acquire for me - I only found one in my entire playthrough. Love new battle system and gameplay loop. Love crafting. Love open worlds. Future games have a lot of potential as the formula was so good, but also so much to improve upon further.

I went in with my alpha Electrivire and got each of them to battle me before they could attack. Fought/caught Manaphy first since the Fiones become weaker without him, then I managed to get two Fiones to fight me at once. I was able to catch those two and Manaphy in one ball throw without doing any damage, but the final Fione (who’s a lower level than the others) actually put up a really good fight. Caught that one too though and now it’s my main water-type. :)

I can't even tell you how much I appreciate your guide. Laying down a hard save before entering the cave is worth it, because I got attacked so quickly when I entered! But now I have enteries on both Manaphy and Phione! Thank you!

Goodra ended up making this fight pretty easy for me. Sludge bomb or agile style dragon pulse to weaken them and then buff your defense with shelter if u need to. Use a few max postions and just waddled them dawn and threw a few ultra balls at each.

After some thought I don't think that this quest would create a time paradox. - a paradox is when you have two conflicting things that cause something to be an impossible scenario. I'm sure you already know this Austin, but for the people that see this comment here is an explanation with an example. For example if you're thinking of a timeline as linier instead of branched, going back in time to do/change a specific thing would create a time paradox as by changing the thing that you went back to change would be removing the reason you went back in time in the first place, meaning you never went back in time at all. But if you didn't go back and change that thing, that thing in your mind still needs to be changed, so you go back in time and change it, but if you go back in time and change it, you remove the reason you went back in time meaning you never went back at all, and it repeats - time paradox. With both of these games there is no paradox present as after we finish the story available to us in Arceus and catch the pokemon Manaphy and Phione, we don't know what happens to them after that, but if we are able to catch them in Diamond and Pearl, and now in the remakes, you have to assume that after the story of Arceus, at a certain point in time, like with all the legendary Pokémon, our character must release them so that they can be caught again. The only other way there could be a paradox is that if both the main characters from both games are the same person, which hasn't been confirmed, but then again, this is also up for interpretation by the players of the games. I think the fact that this is present in Arceus is simply a cheeky nod, an Easter Egg, ironically, at the lore from the games and adds context as well as a visual experience-able aspect to an already present lore.

Not sure if this is true, but does the Overqwil have to be non-alpha or an evolved Qwilfish? I tried to get the cut scene with the Alpha Overqwil i got from the (spoilers) Lake Valor cave. Once I swapped to another that I evolved, the cut scene finally worked. Hmmm…

Turns out you also need to be rank 5. Second playthrough I was going a bit too fast, and it didn’t unlock. I did electrode and still nothing. Then I could progress to alabaster icelands without ranking up, and once I hit 5 I finally got the quest.

I've got a full team almost at level 100 each of all hisuain starters fully evolved, Scizor, luxray (female) and an alpha garchomp. Arceus has been caught. Not too much of a shiny hunter so I'm pretty much just done with the game as of now. I love all your content nonetheless and am watching thinking about starting a second playthrough with all these useful tips. Maybe make for an ever better second experience

I watched this video and tried the battling method after doing and overworld manaphy catch and the overworld method worked so much better than the battle method. I kept stunning them and doing back hits. Thank you!!!

I'll admit, Manaphy and the Phione's did ko all of my pokemon but thankfully, the battle doesn't make you black out. It only ends the battle and you can just go into the bag and revive and heal your mons.

@@cwbgaming8913 The only times I've fallen were simply the game BSing me. The first time I jumped off a cliff to activate Braviary but when I hit the button, Sneaseler came out instead so I fell and blacked out, the second time was also by fall damage when I was going to a space/time rift but the cliff decided it was higher than normal even though I went down it safely. The last time was due to Tornadus as I was chasing him down and the last hit he got on me was due to him stopping so abruptly that I ran into him and apparently with the legendaries and Mythicals, touching them counts as an attack from them even if the shields were gone.

I picked a pretty bad team going in, I had a level 92 garchomp who is weak to their moonblasts, and a shiny rapidash and shiny golem who were both weak to their water moves, but I did manage to catch all 4 of them which is nice. At first I thought you could only catch one phione, but it’s awesome that you can catch all three.

Dear Austin, since Legends of Arceus takes place in the past and BD/SP in the future, is the book of legend about the human asking the 3 pokemon to take him to the prince you? Like your character doing this in game IS the legend in the future.

Here’s a easier way, I used a really beefy Drifblim and fought all 4 at one. I put one to sleep at a time and tanked the others hits while catching the one that is sleepy with Ultra Balls (I recommend stocking up on lots of ultra balls before a encounter with any legendary or pseudo-legendary).

Hey Austin the portrait on the wall in the tunnel you passed might have something interesting to do with it because there is another one at the Heights Camp in the Obsidian Fieldlands on the mountain wall. Both have legendary and lord pokemon on them. I don't know if there is any others out there, haven't found anything about them besides it in your video here.

This is late (got the game but hadn't played it until a little while ago) bu try to catch Manaphy first, its the leader and the one who causes all the attacks at once. Once its caught, the Phione are less aggressive and no water shields

This is a clever side quest how it ties in with BDSP. But I would have never understood this without looking it up. Which is mostly fine, but I do kinda wish there was more in game hints so that you don't have to look it up if you have no idea what is going on. But thanks for the video!
