I was a fan day 1 of this channel. I watched for years and worked my butt off to become unstoppable on the field. I poured my heart into the game, literally most of the day every day was poured into practicing, most often alone. I have no regrets about that, there is little more near and dear to me as this beautiful game. I unfortunately didn’t manage to connect it to college soccer. Soccer was my life, and now I can barely stand to see a soccer ball, cleats, or even shin guards without tearing up. I couldn’t even think of soccer in any way for years…. If there is anyone out there who’s 18, who’s just out of high school, or near the end. Don’t give up on your dreams, make it connect with reality. I’ve been a half of a person since the day my dreams died, if I could go back, I’d give everything to change that. But you only get one chance.

So guys here's the thing for me. I'm from West Africa & unfortunately i don't have so many opportunities in Soccer. Let me explain. I was in a team for a year when i was 12 to 13 but my dad made me quit because he thought i was too small. The coach was saying that i was one the best players he ever had & i had a lot of potential. He tried to convince my dad by saying that if you're good enough you're big enough. But unfortunately.. So right now I'm in my senior year of High School. I'm applying to Colleges in the US like Ohio State, Cleveland State or Georgia State. I still play & I'm still one the best if not the best. Us, students in my High School, created teams & we play every Wednesday & Saturday. We don't have coaches we have captains & everybody knows his role. I don't have Highlight Videos & all of that. But I really, absolutely want to play soccer in High School. I'm determined. Can y'all explain me what I'll have to do to get in a team? I don't know that much about open tryouts too.

Great video man thanks for the advice. Hopefully I can get the footage from my school and make a highlight video but as of now I don't have one. I'm a senior in high school I play winger/striker at my school and I will be attending several college tryouts in the next few months. What advice would you give to someone in my situation on how to stand out at tryouts etc.? Thanks

+Jacob Bynum There's no advice to give besides just play your regular style of soccer. If you have put in the necessary practice and work it will show. If you haven't, it will also show.

bro I fully understand your situation I was in that same predicament but one thing I can tell you is make sure your fit when you go for id camps or college practice/training session... it's amazing how different you play when your fit from when your not... just work hard you will never know who is watching

Can I get your expertise from this topic on a decision: I never played soccer in high school but I did play on a team throughout the years, I've been playing since 11 but I can tell that I still need a lot of work, I do go to the gym regularly and I would say that I am competent in terms of stamina, speed, agility, ball control, etc. Would you guys recommend me to tryout for college soccer? or not go at all and not make a fool out of myself. For the teams that I played with, most of the guys there played for high school, some for college and even some for veterans leagues.

+Daniel Bouvier Obviously it's always better to be playing at the highest level that you possibly can. You'll get more exposure, better training, and have a better resume. However, the most important thing is your development. I would recommend start filming your games now just in case you score the goal of your life tomorrow, but most coaches like to see sophomore and junior year game footage.

in europe ist way more different..collegue Sport is more a Hobby on a good Level. But if you want make some serious Sport you have to attend Clubs way earlier (at some age of 10,11 or even earlier). if you 20 and you still dont get scouted you wont get profi .

Hopefully I’m not to late... college coaches don’t want to see highlights from you. They want to see full games or half’s of games to see how you play. They also want you to attend their id camps to see in person.

I would do some independent research on google if I were you as I am not too knowledgeable on the subject, but I know that in D1 soccer there are stricter regulations academically for foreigners regarding your GCSE's (I think that's what they're called) and D1 schools are only allowed a certain number of foreigners per team. NAIA have lower academic requirements for foreigners and are a lowed many more foreigners per team.

I'm a bigger guy, 5'10" 186 pounds as of now, and 209 pounds at the end of my season (so not the best highlight video). I'm not the greatest with the ball, but I was our defensive MVP on our high school team. I hope to play D3 soccer and end up in our local USL soccer team after, and I spend roughly 2 or 3 hours a day training. Do you think I'll stand a chance making D3, specifically UCSC? I have a camp in a month, which is my one chance to get noticed.

+SKILLS836 Yes, definitely. Just make sure to spend majority of your time bringing up your weak points. If you are a little shaky on the ball or a little unfit a college coach might think, "Well, he's great on defense, but I don't know about his touch." You want the coach to say, "Excellent on defense and a decent touch as well." A big weak point can outweigh a excellent strength, so be sure to try to bring up your weaknesses. As you climb higher and higher, players start to become more and more rounded. You no longer have just athletes, just defensive players, or just very technical players. Today, the pros have all three aspects and are especially good in one particular aspect.

what level could you compare the D1 soccer to? I play in Germany on the second highest youth level - Oberliga. I would think that the standard in Germany is higher than in America. Is it worth applying?

Yes absolutely! The level other there is improving year on year, with international youth players littered through the divisions. I would definitely consider applying. I'm a junior in high school and I've played travel (club) soccer since 5th grade. Also I've played on my HS team since freshman yeah. I start in club but not in HS. I got a full ride scholarship to a D2 school. If I want to go pro one day will I have a better chance going pro if I go to a D1 school because possible recruiting agents will want to look there first because it is seen as more advanced and harder than D2? Or does it depend how I do in D2 and if I do a really good job in there they can notice me too?

Of course, but it all depends on your work ethic and the quality of your trainings! You need to be doing extra every single day in order to play college soccer whether it's weight training, running, or preferably skills training.

+Become Elite do you think I have a decent shot at becoming a college soccer player. I tried out for a team that is a very good team 30 minutes away from me. I've heard that kids on the team that I'm trying out for are already being talked to by colleges ( we are all freshman in high school). I have been asked to come back and practice with them today and I believe that I have a good shot at making the team. They also have a lot of players on the state team. Just wondering if you think I have a shot. I'm always working for my chance and I believe that this team will help me become a better player. Keep up the great vids man

+Dwayne Marshall Tell the other schools your situation. Other college programs will become more interested in you when they find out that other D1 schools are taking an interest in you. I would send out emails like, "Hi Coach ____, It is Matt Sheldon again. I juat wanted to provide you with a quick update: Oregon State are moving forward with the recruiting process and want me to verbally commit to play at their school. Before I do so, I would like to check out your program and facilities. Is there a date where I can come and do an unofficial visit and meet the staff and learn about your program?" Then attach your CV and highlight video again. Always attach those. I would direct the other college coaches to you high school and club coaches, because you never know what shady or sketchy things coaches might do to get other universities uninterested in you if they really want you for themselves. Most coaches are great guys, but I wouldn't risk it.

it really depends on om what you believe would ve more beneficial for you, and would help you grow as a player. For example, if you have the option to play academy or high school. I would recommend the academy unless you don't receive a lot of minutes or is simply too expensive.

I have 22years old and when i will get 24 and have my bachelor degree I think about applying for an athletic scholarship because i can't afford the study fees Also i study in an english speaking university in tunis. i wanna know if it's possible to get an athletic scholarship to play in the D1 or even D2 in USA.

l am from the uk and l currently play for a saturday league team and l am 17. l am thinking of getting a scholarship in usa but should l go to the us or just stay in europe and join a non-league team and work all way up? l need some good advice

make a few videos from your games and skills, use ardorz.com platform to upload the videos. contact universities that you are interested in and send an email to the coaches and invite them to watch your videos. who knows you may get calls from a university that you would have never guessed, since the website is connected to universities and clubs worldwide.

tawanda cheza hey mate. Maybe a little late but I'm also from the uk (Scotland) playing non league. I was recently offered a contract from Newcastle and trials for Manchester City but decided to go on scholarship in America next august. Totally depends on your situation. I decided to reject City and Newcastle for college as I'll have a degree, have a scholarship worth £60,000 a year and get everything paid for, train full time while also getting full time eduction. I rejected playing pro in England because the wages I got offered was no where near enough to support the living costs of moving to England by myself but obviously if you're in England your situation will be different. :)

If you are good you would probably get scouted to some team in the MLS and then go form there.

I recommend sending the highlight videos directly to the coaches. You can find their emails on their school's athletic website. I never found any success with any recruiting websites.

Michael Jordan, one of the best basketball players of all time, didn't make the varsity team for his high school. It's never too late to try to play at a high level. I have never had the opportunity to play for the level I wanted either but I keep going and pushing, hoping one day it will work out. Do the same.
