Awe. I'm so sorry to hear of your furry pal passing away. ;( They bring such joy to our lives, and it hurts so much when they're gone. As for urine contamination in the pad, that's a tricky one. Your pad is like a giant sponge with lots of air pockets that can trap liquids like spills and urine. I'm glad to hear you get that part because a lot of people do mistakenly believe they just need to mist on a little bit of product and the stain magically goes away. As you hinted, it doesn't work like that. The urine contamination amount must be overcome by equal parts of decontamination effort. I.E. What Goes In, Must Come Out for decontamination to be successful. Flooding the area is one way, but can potentially cause secondary issues with wet concrete or wood subfloors that don't dry quickly and cause more bacteria to grow. Second, water is great at diluting contamination, but it doesn't neutralize, nor remove the contamination. Given all of that, here's what we recommend. First, thank you very much for your business. We sure do appreciate you, and please know you and all of our great customers can reach us via email, or via our phone, which is on the bottle. We're ALWAYS glad to help our customers! Second, if you're dealing with a large area (say 10% +/- the size of the room), it's often better to replace the pad. When you pull the pad, simply clean the back of the carpet with Stain Fu as we'll show below, install the new pad, then clean the top side of the carpet. If the stains are of manageable size, do this: You mentioned you have a carpet machine. - First, liberally spray the area with Stain Fu straight out of the bottle. - Put on some comfy walking shoes with rubber soles and literally "walk it in" to the carpet and pad. We don't want you soaking through the subfloor, though! - Leave the area alone for about 15 minutes while Stain Fu does its work. - Add 4 oz of Stain Fu to your rinse tank water in your carpet machine, and go over the area several times. - Next use the Weighted Towel method where you place a stack of 4 or so white terry cloth cotton towels on the stain, weight it down with something heavy like a book or a brick, and leave it over night. Assess the next day and repeat if necessary. The weighted towel method works like this: When your carpet and pad gets wet, it always dries from the bottom up. We can use this to our decontamination advantage by placing towels and some weight over the area to wick the deep-down contamination to the surface. @@laurat3xas yes this product worked amazing! Got all the urine out of the carpet and saved me from having to replace it. I did this process and placed a cement block on a few towels to push product directly into carpet and padding, once all was dry, I used product in a carpet cleaner and went over the entire space

@@StainFu Thanks for the video, but I still have an issue. I hoping you can help. I was cleaning my carpet and found a spot that was "damp", seemed like the urine did what you stated ... spread. I cleaned with Resolve, the whole area, let dry for 12 hours. Then later she peed right on the cover I had placed on all the areas that needed to be cleaned more(still couldn't get that smell out even though I used several products) I was beyond Shocked! (she has Never not listen, older age 😄) I have a carpet cleaner, and have use the solution, however more water with little solution doesn't seem to help alot. Don't know??? Rented a wet/dry vac, don't know if I should get one???? Had my carpets cleans in November. Have to do something ASAP?? The smell is coming up with some of the products I'm using, my dog is getting "upset" that I keep covering up the carpet with cloth pads, that she will just pee on the edge that now I have to wash AGAIN!($3) It's crazy. If it were me, I would try to use your carpet cleaner with just hot water, and try to extract out as much of the product as you can (basically until little/no foaminess coming up). Then I would highly suggest if possible getting Stain Fu to treat the areas (if you are unable to, try a mixture of 32oz water, a drop of Dawn dish soap, and 1-2 tbsp of 3% hydrogen peroxide). Once you treat the areas, agitate it in using something like a metal spoon handle and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then take some white/colorfast towels, place it on top of the area, and then weigh it down with something heavy. This extracts out the urine from the top side, and it wicks into your towels as it dries. Check the area in a few hours and repeat the steps if needed. Hope that helps!

In most cases for urine, you'll want to treat the areas that are affected. If you are about to clean your carpets, you can try to pre-treat the affected area, let it dwell, and then extract it out with your machine.

You'll most likely want to seal the subfloor with an oil-based sealer (like Kilz) before replacing the carpet.

Depends how nasty they are. We usually wash them many times before replacing. Pro tip: wash only the contaminated towels together, and don't mix in with good linens. If they're badly spoiled, it's not a bad idea to run a cleaning cycle after washing the contaminated towels. As for the Stain Fu on the towels, that's not a concern at all. In fact we often add a little Stain Fu to our laundry as a safe stain and odor remover for all water-safe items.

Hello there! We would recommend treating the areas (we prefer Stain Fu, naturally ) but if you are using an enzyme based product, I would wipe it up after it dries to make sure no residue is left on the concrete for the next step. We would then recommend sealing the floor with an oil-based shellac (we like B-I-N from Zinsser, can usually be found at hardware stores). This should seal the odors and be good to go 😊

@Stain Fu thank you. The enzyme cleaner wouldn't be enough? I fear having to do the last step due to the installers having to wait. If it's necessary then I can see if they would give me time.

Yes, we would test in an inconspicuous area first as there are some upholstery fibers/fabrics that are sensitive. Most modern upholstery is made of synthetic material and works great on that :)

Oh Gosh, that's terrible! I'm sorry to hear that. If it were me, I would definitely speak to the apartment managers and/or maintenance people about that. If they installed new floors over floor boards with cat urine, they should have applied an oil-based primer such as Kilz or Zinsser BIN to seal and trap the odors on those boards first. In this situation, that is the best way and something they should have done before they put in new floors. If that is not an option, you could try to apply an odor remover like Stain Fu, but you would need to know where the odors are coming from, and apply enough to penetrate into the boards. Hopefully they will work with you and get it done the right way.

Hardwood floors can be tough because it really depends on if the floors are finished or unfinished. Also the extent of damage the urine has made. If the floor is unfinished, it is not water-safe, so you run the risk of discoloration and perhaps making the area look worse. If it's finished, you should be able to treat the areas, let it dwell for about 15-30 minutes, wipe the area, and then let it air dry. You may need to repeat the steps to get to the contamination. However if the contamination is deep and that the wood is rotting or damaged, it will have to be replaced, or possibly refurbished or refinished. It might also be worth checking around to make sure where the source of the odor is coming from. From our experience, we have seen a customer's cat urinate down vents and that needing to be cleaned out. We have also seen some cats urinate on walls, and that needing to be repainted. If you are certain it's all coming from the wood floors, just be cautious and test in an inconspicuous area first if you can :)

Yes, if you are using Stain Fu it is fine if they accidentally walk on it. Mine does all the time! lol Of course, we would say to be cautious as every pet is different and can have different reactions. But Stain Fu is formulated to be a safe product around people and pets. I would be worried if you are using an enzyme cleaner (needs to stay wet and untouched for a long time for it to work) or a harsh product like Resolve (could hurt the paws and skin).

Great question! The main difference is that our product does not use any enzymes, which we find not as effective and more time consuming than using the power of oxygen. We also don't add any perfumes/fragrances to mask the odor, and it also does not leave a sticky residue (unlike NM).

I 💯 guarantee this method didn’t work for you. Jesus your home, your clothes and you must smell terrible. There is nothing worse than cat pee smell. The only thing worse I’ve smelled was a crack house WITH cat pee. 🤢🤮 Rip up all of the flooring, floorboards, drywall and replace.
