I've commented on your channel before and disagreed with you over some things. But I've gotta say this is a very good video. Ultimately you are attempting to verbaly convey the fact that we as humanity are not who we 'think' we are - which most people will really struggle to comprehend. Not only that but you yourself Alex are governed by words when it comes to describing something which ultimately can only be seen ... Listen what I'm saying is, this topic is not easy to put into words, and I think you did a good job. What fascinates me is, there is definitely a you in the sense of 'you' who doesn't want to do any more press-ups, or 'you' who doesn't find certain jokes funny, etc. But there is not a 'you' in the sense of who you 'think' you are !! Would you agree ?!

Yes there is a sense of self, it is not real in the ultimate sense. In the sense that it's not permanent. It's always changing and is made out of thinking. We invest identification in it. It is relatively real and has relative importance. But it cannot function properly when there is sole identification with it. It actually functions better when the true self beyond it is known.

@@AlexShailer thanks for taking the time to reply first of all. I totally agree with everything you say here. I'm not trying to be a clever dick, but I wouldn't say people intentionally invest identification in the sense of self, I'd suggest most people just don't see there is anything else but the self. For most people, the idea that they are anything else but the self is completely unheard-of - myself included a few years ago. Would you agree with this ? But if I could take you deeper than just merely self opinions, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this ... I'd suggest we almost have inbuilt factory settings. For example from birth, two babies will not laugh at the same thing, what makes one baby laugh might make the other baby cry - and yet babies have yet to establish a sense of self, a self sense of what is and what is not funny in other words. And as we grow into adults, what you find sexually arousing, I might not, which is not a self made intellectual preference - again, this appears to be an inbuilt factory set preference. Do you follow me ?! Could I get your thoughts on this ?

This helped me alot. My ego want understand one-ness but it cant so its like I fall into a trap of think that unless I become an invisible ghost or a magical light form who's watching myself Im not enlightened.

It’s so ridiculous, how can you be anything other than a separate self? It doesn’t make any sense. In a way I’ve communicated with god so I know there’s more to life than meets the eye. But I can’t grasp the whole nonduality/oneness thing. I’m alone in this body and I’ll always be alone I’ll always be this body. I think this world exists only to torture and torment

I can imagine this causes you a fair bit of suffering! To answer your question. The notion that you are only a separate self is a belief. Where something (or someone!) begins or ends is conceptual. Just like whether an apple is part of the tree, or a seperate thing that grows on the tree, is conceptual. The reality is the one tree.
