Hi Shari - Yes, it's a good way to do it, and I've used that method since recording this video actually. Thank you for your comments... (Apologies for the delay, I didn't get a notification!) How lovely you can use your own beeswax...! :)

You're right the beeswax itself isn't toxic, it's the added pigments and resin that you don't want to be consuming, hence good practice not to mix painting and food containers... :)

Thank you for your comments Diane. Still testing out the technology, so appreciate your time in letting me know that. There are very few UK Encaustic Artists, or suppliers, that I'm aware of, that's why I started stocking the supplies myself.... We are a rare breed here in Britain...!

I have seen videos of artists using an electric frying pan and a table-top griddle/grill. I can't afford anything too expensive and I wonder which of the two would be better. Hello Diane, I am in the process of merging two websites, my old website is www.julieannsgallery.co.uk my new one is www.artyheaven.com - (I will update the link here, once everything is live.) I have lists and prices of everything on my old website, the formatting is a bit strange, so you'll have to bear with me on that, but you can order those products now, just e-mail me your order. I have most products in stock, if not, I can order in for you. In answer to your heat tool question... Personally, I would go for a table top griddle / grill, you have more flexibility in that you can use it directly as a palate, or put tins on and melt individual colours, although it depends how large a scale you want to work, a small griddle will be fine for small to medium sized work. Finally, you'll see workshop information on my Julie Anns Gallery website under the 'Encaustic Wax' tab, you'll see pages for workshops, online workshops, FAQ's etc. At the moment, I don't have studio space, (and we are doing major house renovations) so not planning any workshops until probably Spring next year, so focusing on Online Courses for now. Hi Jean, I've not encountered this before, so difficult to say just on a few words. If it does have too much damar in, I would suggest adding additional plain beeswax to get the proportions back to where they should be. Damar only raises the melting point, so once molten, in theory, shouldn't have anything to do with how it spreads, (it cools, not dries) so wondering if your wax isn't hot enough, that's why it's not spreading. Don't recommend mixing cold and hot wax together. Where are you based? I'd really recommend some tuition to get you started, or a good book, or tutorial, it will help you no end. I'm working on some, will post in the link when live! :)

I haven't used mod podge personally, but I do use many other mixed media materials with beeswax in my backgrounds... this course is available at the moment, there are some free preview videos, which might help you out... Acrylic and beeswax don't mix... Oil paints would, but there are rules around it, I have an online course that can help depending how deep you want to go, or I'm doing 1-1 Zoom calls at the moment. Look at the Frequently Asked Questions on my website for more info... www.artyheaven.com

Thank you for your comments... I'm not sure about the temperature of this method for heating resin, as I haven't tried it myself. Damar has a melting point of around 80 degrees celcius, as opposed to beeswax at around 62c ... you can only give it a try, do let us know how you get on! :)

You can paint in the same way, however it won't be as durable as beeswax with resin added to it, and would scratch or scuff more easily.
