I’m sure all these helmet cam videos are done just for laughs because there all just poo. I just have a chin mount and my Sena head set connect to the GoPro though Bluetooth. Maybe do your own research before making another crap video like all the others on KZfaq

teapotone you title say how to get the best motovlog helmet set up. It’s just click bate and a copy of almost every other setup 😅 some advice. Ls2 do helmets that can be fitted with sena ride pal intercoms so no need with stick on bits. Add the Myk app to peace the Bluetooth and the video from the go pro together, there no need for that usb c audio adapter. and you pretty much would have the best set up. Your welcome!

Nope, audio Via Bluetooth sucks sadly, I’ve tried it. Way too much treble and the quality isn’t good enough for vid work.

@@GBMark90 I've already tried it, that's why I know it's no good for the videos. I've also tried connecting up another Pactalk Bold unit direct to a sound recorder, and meshing that into the group to record the chat. It's still not good enough quality to use the audio in these type of vids, the only decent way of doing it is to mic up everyone in the chat and record their audio individually, then sync it up in post. Which is what I do. Which is why I did this vid to show people how to do it, because lots of people have asked me how I do it. If it's not for you, fair enough.

TeaPotOne, this was great. And folks, no need to post negative comments here. Why not be kind? Isn't the world challenging enough? I'm also a professional television director and editor with tons of experience. The best way to get good audio is to hardwire, as you have done here. Bluetooth is not reliable. Thank you for this video. It was super helpful for me. I'm about to set my GoPro, helmet and Sena. Keep posting ,TeaPotOne!.

I put a small lining of super glue around the edges of the helmet sticky mount to make sure it will NEVER come off that position without ripping the helmet to shreds. There is no play. .and that's good given the weight of the gopro and the TREMENDOUS forces of wind resistance. .especially when you're turning your head to check it's safe to lane change. Also, the fewer the joints the better. An extended curved mount arm is so much better [it's cheap too so I buy 2x of them for backups]. Cool thing about the curved mount arm is you can swing it out further from the helmet and adjust the gopro to face forward again with more clearance for keeping it looking straight when you tilt your head up or down. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing. Because sharing. . .is caring.

Spot on install TeapotOne ! I have a different challenge - my GoPro is mounted out in front of my windshield. In addition, I do not want any wires coming from the GoPro back into my helmet (tethered) so, I'm flummoxed. I chose the location of the GoPro first so there is nothing in the way (tall windshield). I have a great stout mount so that part is done. I have a USB charger in the dash to run to the GoPro to record and all-day session. I'm thinking get a GoPro case with the mic adapter space to get that part done right up front. That leaves two cables coming back to inside the windshield - the "new" USB-C to my charge port and the mic cable. I'm thinking a wireless mic so, the receiver is on the handlebars or the like and the transmitter (smaller the better) is in the helmet or on the helmet with a short mic cable inside the helmet. Done. Any advice? would be welcome.
@teapotone
@teapotone 2 жыл бұрын
Get a wireless mic, like the Rode wireless, then connect a standard Lav mic to the wireless mic. Run the lay into the helmet as usual and then run the wire into a jacket pocket where the wireless mic is. Now locate the wireless transmitter on top of your GoPro (in a media mod) and use the horseshoe mount to secure the transmitter to the GoPro. It won’t be rain proof though. For a weatherproof system, use a sound recorder like a zoom H1 or Taz system and put that in your pocket, then run the cables Lav mic into your helmet as usual. You’ll need to sync up audio to video when you start recording, but you can do that with a clap/horn etc

Well-meant suggestion/improvement : apart from one, throw away all other too cumbersome GoPro original screws, and replace them with nice-and-slick M5x20 umbraco-head screws. Because once the exact camera location is determined, there's no need to stick with such cumbersome screws ! Keep only one (!) of these cumbersome/original GoPro screws to be able to (tilt and) open the case for all kinds of practical reasons (like e.g. accessing battery or SD card) when you're "on-the-go".

Bruce, I have been scratching my head on how to get my Nolan N87 Plus setup for weeks and I had all those bits you have laying around. I have tried the tie on mounts and they loosen up. Finally I watched your video carefully and my helmet has scalloped sides (concave) whereas the go pro mount adhesive is convex. I have finally worked out how to avoid this problem by putting it on a ridge and cutting a small slot in the adhesive where the ridge is. It will then sit perfectly over the ridge to the side where you put it and using your attachment combination it's going to be a winner! Also my front vent will still work using your system. Mate you are a genius - well done!

Bruce - I just really enjoyed that vid which popped up on my feed. Cracking. Then I saw Mark Russell's comment. What an utter prick. Clearly a charisma bypass donor. Not that I want to do any public vlogging, but I do want to vid my rides after my 37 years bikeless (now fixed..... sixteenfold) for myself, my lad, and even the family. I have a spare AGV, and a Cardo, and so I am thinking to set my AGV up for that - as I don't want to stick anything on the Neotech. That was really helpful mate - thanks a lot 👍

I like to use a smear of dialectic grease on any electrical contacts that might be exposed to the elements, and I would do that for the mic plug and socket. Stops any corrosion or oxidation of the electric contact. Love the editing, Bruce. Top stuff.

A few improvements easy to make to this You can get a GoPro Case that holds the case and the adaptor the screws I replaced with normal sized screws that sit flush with arms so there isn't lots of thumb screws blocking the view of a nice helmet. I've had this same setup in the past but replaced it with a GoPro Max on the top of helmet, might look a bit derp, but it starts conversations and turns heads with the addition of amazing footage to make great content with!

Great video, Bruce! Just a few of tips ... not sure if already mentioned. 1) Use some a little cleaning alcohol cloth to clean the areas that you will stick the bits to ... I have had 3M products come loose as a result of not doing this. 2) If the audio adapter has limited cable length and position options on the lid, test out the camera first for angles to ensure you have a final cam position before fitting the extra bits that plug into the cam. 3) If you are afraid of potentially having your £400 camera bouncing down the road, attach one of the little GoPro string lanyards to it and just loop your chinstrap through it.

I really enjoyed this TeapotOne. I have been away from motorcycle vlogging for over 5 years and although I'm soon to get a GL1800 trike (I'm disabled now so cannot ride two wheels now) I want to restart my channel. My preferred helmet is the Shoei Neotec and I had my GoPro Hero 3+ Silver on a similar set up to yours, only a little further back. I took photos of my set up fortunately but require some bits and bobs like the mic (I've ordered the adapter) and communication system. I did have the Sena 20S previously but I hear good reviews of the Cardo system. I too have the Hero 7 black now. I usually record in 1080p 30fps. Ride safe my friend.

I fitted my gopro by moulding Sugro to make a shape to fit the gopro mount in front of the air vent. 2 years in and 150 mph later it hasn’t moved, it’s dead straight and solid. The Sugro came in black so it blends in. I now can’t open the vent but I don’t need to. Great tip to seal the door 👍

I know it's a couple of years dated now since you've made this vid but it is an alternative option for those with GoPros and Cardo PackTalks rather than the Sena intercoms. I'm still debating whether to go for the Sena 50S or the Packtalk Bold. Sena have just released the 50S Harman Kardon updated version of the old 50S as I draft this response. There's tons of 'Ultimate Vlogging Setup' videos on here and yes, a lot usually aim towards the same sort of solutions: GoPro connected to a mic and an intercom of either the latest Cardo or Sena (as they are the 2 leading brands of current mesh connection intercoms). There's still a massive annoyance of users of these intercoms however that the 2 brands are not compatible on mesh with each other, and are only workable over bluetooth, which is significantly a step backwards in tech. This forces users to choose between devices and usually comes down to 'what do the rest of your riding buddies have? Go with that.' The biggest gripe I have with the Cardo setup here, and I've come across this video whilst reseraching this, is that with Sena, you can plug the intercom mic into a Y-splitter along with the speakers from the intercom and then into GoPro (only possible using either GoPro's Mic Adapter or the Media Mod) then into the GoPro itself to record notonly your audio, but the audio from the rest of your team. If you watch Chris Caliente's video on this it explains how this is acheived quite thoroughly. You have to remember as a final point that Cardo invented the MESH technology and Sena have copied it from them, hence the lack of compatibility between the two brands. Great video Bruce. Another Sub from me mate.

No help for you seeing as you use the Cardo but I tried the Sena comms back for the Gopro. Works a treat with crystal clear sound recorded to the Gopro from the Sena mic. Problem is that it disables music from your phone and ability to take calls. Talk about an own goal. On my helmet set up I use hex bolts except for the vertical adjustment. It seems to make it a touch more rigid and I rarely need to adjust. Nice vlog :) Liked your tip, a while ago, about using silicon ear plugs to weatherproof my Hero 4... top tip!

Nice looking Lid that! I've gone the path more travelled and joined team GoPro this year. I went for the SuGru option and managed a perfectly central mount. Looks like that would be impossible for you with this helmet though. Pesky designers, putting cool vents on the chin! Loving the chin camera position so far, but hating that adapter nonsense! Happy new lidding mate!

Really shows what's involved in producing a great blog!. Nice how to video Bruce. One thing I see with a lot of riders with GoPro cameras is not having the camera titled up and back enough...with the wide angle lens you can really tilt it back . Great new intro by the way!! Cheers, Steve

Thanks for the vid - just what I was looking for. I’ve got the same issue on mount position. Adventure helmet doesn’t have one flat surface. 😫 And my OCD doesn’t let me offset it 😬😁 but if I have to stick the sound box on the left them maybe that’s the solution. 🤔 Not sure Sucre has same adhesive qualities as 3M. I used Sucre under my peak to make a flat surface for a mount (session 5 Hero) then put a couple of screws through into the mount to make sure.

Thanks for a very informative and easy to follow set-up guide Bruce - much appreciated. Ta for the tip about the silicone ear plugs to fill the opening. Could you do a follow-up video on the camera settings you use for the Go-Pro 7?

Well that just buggered that lid 😊, silicon putty could have a lot of uses, thanks for that👍 did you clean the areas on the lid with alcohol wipes off camera? also its a good idea to use hair dryer sorry in you case a heat gun and warm the mount up a bit. Good luck in your new venture.👌

I didn’t do a final review, but I did this vid and I wore it for about 2yrs NEW Ruroc Atlas 2 0 Helmet | Unboxing & First Look kzfaq.info/get/bejne/odeno65hs86-hoE.html I genuinely like the lid - it looks great and I love the magnetic chin-strap, but it was loud. I didn’t use the Comms kit as I have a Cardo Pactalk Bold and they’re way better👍

Good job. I think I have a good set up. I use sugru to help stick the mount on the chin & use a windjammer thingy to stop wind flying up my lid. Also my mic has an adapter so I don't need the big gopro mic adapter

Great vid Bruce. Just be mindful of cleaning the surface of your helmet with alcohol before using adhesive pads. There's nothing worse than losing a £300 action cam because there was oily residue present during the assembly. And yes I am speaking from experience. RIP Hero 5. Crossed the rainbow bridge far too soon. I also use small bolts instead of the thumbscrews. It makes for a cleaner look once all of the angles are set.
@teapotone
@teapotone 4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Ian, aye that must’ve been a slight issue - oh bother, you said 😬🤦‍♂️ Yeah I’ve seen a lot of people use smaller bolts for the clean look but to be honest I quite like the ‘scaffolding’ look with the OEM ones 🤷‍♂️😉👍

If you wanna go down the slightly less DIY option, there's a Canadian company called Chinmounts that do helmet specific chinbar mounts, they've just come out with one for the Atlas, they're just under 30 quid or so. I'm still waiting for them to make one for the AGV K1, mostly because my setup blocks one side of the front vents and the helmet tends to lean to one side when I put it down which is a bit disconcerting

It's a nice set up but just wish Gopro didn't insist on that huge audio block. On my camera mount I've replaced all the thumb screws with cross head and tightened with a screwdriver once set in place, just to neaten it up. Just left the one thumbscrew to remove the camera.
