Damn i loved this game as a kid but had no idea about half of this stuff! Never got half those tools never got big field never met tartan or made hybrids. Im glad im going back gonna do all the things!

It's probably my favorite farming game, even with newer titles like Stardew Valley being super popular. Even though its so old, I still feel like the vibe of this game is unmatched lol

As someone who had nothing but those incomplete and rumor-infested guides to go off of for this game as a kid, thank you for making this video! If possible, could you do a video on the other, miscellaneous gifts you can get from the townsfolk? Like the necklace from Flora, Lumina's sheet music, or the drums from Gustafa?

It really is nice to see someone put in the effort for these OG farming games. stardew valley set a president that these games just didn't have back in the day. Even the "official" guide books would oft have false info in them.

Thanks so much for watching! I have a lot of love for Stardew and ConcernedApe for reigniting the farming game craze. I don't think we see games like AWL get a remake or the large number of indie farming titles without them

@@JackDuckGoose definitely not, when I was a kid I couldn't even comprehend what I was meant to do in this type of game and played it almost only like animal crossing. now I see how its supposed to work and wish I got into the grind like my sister did.

@@Zelapher I think AWL is pretty unique in that regard. It's not like there is a pop-up that says, "Hey, you should befriend everyone in the village to get some stuff." I definitely played this game like Animal Crossing and just let whatever happen without too much of a gameplan. It was much more relaxing that way too lol

It's tough in the original since you need to use the link cable, but I could do it in AnWL since you get all of them from villagers lol

This walkthrough is super helpful as I’ve been getting everyone in towns head to turn but only really earned the fishing pole from Galen and seed maker from Daryl. Only other cutscene I could get after stalking the town was grant for some reason giving me the alarm clock on day one of year 2. He still has not been befriended 😂

Lol that's weird! I tried so many permutation to make sure everything was accurate, and Grant never gave it to me that early. I'm glad this video helped you out!

Those items are glitched in the original??? I had no idea, I always assumed there was some kind of effect going on that wasn't obvious, absolutely incredible. Thank you for the guide, I'm sure this will be helpful for the remakes, too!

The prevailing rumors about the gifted tools in the original is that the Watering Can W makes trees grow faster and Strange and Weird Sickles and Hoes increase your stamina. I've totally debunked the Watering Can one, but the sickle and hoe one is hard to prove since there is no stamina bar like there is in AnWL. I'm 99% confident they're glitched and people in the 2005-2006 FAQs and forums where looking for something to justify why they didn't do anything out of the ordinary lol

@@JackDuckGoose those rumors sound vaguely familiar, they're probably what I ran across back in the day. The idea of them being glitched really shouldn't be a surprise, I remember running into little bugs and glitches occasionally in AWL, I just hadn't even considered that they had more obvious features that simply weren't working lmao

Appreciate the detail here. Something I've had just as much trouble figuring out online: what do the special tools do in AWL? People say they build stamina faster, some say the hoes make carrots grow faster, others say they can hoe more than 1 tile at once. I assume version differences are the reason there are so many answers, but in AWL, as far as I can tell, the stamina is the only thing that could be true

With games this old, I always take internet claims with a grain of salt lol. For the special edition and AnWL, the special tools do til/cut/water more squares. I agree with you about the original AWL; the only thing that these tools could do is increase stamina, but there’s no way to test that since we don’t have any visible attribute bars. It could’ve been a bug or something but for me, I always considered it just aesthetic flavor lol

@@JackDuckGoose thanks. Looked down and saw you answered this a million times already. Sorry about that. I was always interested in the mechanics of this game, but it's true that you don't have a ton of hard data to base some of the claims off of (like a stamina bar)

I’ve heard in the original, these tools do different things, like the watering can W being to grow trees faster, and Strange/Weird tools building your stamina instead of lowering it, but I’m honestly just more inclined to say they don’t work as intended there

Speaking of Story of Seasons Guide Will you do one for Rune Factory? Especially since Rune Factory 3 Remaster(With supposedly more content than the original game and yeah it was too short compared to RF4 but still a great game) is coming soon

i started to play this game again after i watched your video 100% HM AWL, and now i'm in chapter 2 winter and i've got all my tools (except goat milk and fishing rod), hybrid my seed into all type of tier 2 crops (hopefully got all tier 3 in chapter 3) and all type of tier 2 & 3 trees, be friend to all villagers, still didn't get big arna 🤬, all type of building (except milking room) idk why i can't buy goat from Van, i did have a chance to buy it in spring chapter 2 but i didn't buy it cause i have to save my money for M.P my cow (even tho i have 2 spot left in case my cow will giving birth) and after that the option is gone until now, can you help me?

That's a great amount of progress. Regarding the goat, Van only sells the goat in Spring, so if you miss it in the first year of chapter 2, you'll have to wait until next spring for Van to offer the goat for sale. If money is an issue, I would do a lot of fishing and create sashimi out of fish that aren't more than 150g. That combined with turning your tree fruits into seeds and selling those to Van should get you enough money you need to get the Goat and the Milking Room. Let me know if that helps!

@@JackDuckGoose thanks for the info, i'm in spring now and yes goat only appear in spring season, i thought i miss it. it's time to turn all the fruit into seed (it's kinda cheating cause tree seed is very expensive meanwhile the fruit itself doesn't 🤔)

Geez i'm a little late to this video but in fact you don't really need to be friend of Grant, you can really get the alarm clock at the very first day of the second chapter, just go to his house really early in the morning. About the Fishing Pole, i heard that it's lighter, so you won't really get as tired as you would using the Fishing Rod. And what about the records? i wonder if there's some diference between the special edition and another wonderful life edition

I had no clue about the Alarm clock! I'll have to do that myself lol. With the fishing pole, I honestly have no clue what it does. Maybe it's just a skin? Regarding the records, I believe the AWL and AnWL have similar mechanics. You have to used the GBA link since they're both gamecube games. With the Special edition being on playstation, I think they changed it to Mukmuku, Marlin, Patrick & Kassey, and some other people give them out once you reach max affection with them. P&K give one out after you beat them 10 times in territory capture.

Honestly, I haven't gotten far enough to confirm that. I'm 99% sure everything has remained the same for getting the big field, but I don't know if the strange and weird tools make an appearance in the remake since tool upgrades exist

The plan is for the next 100% video to be the final. After 120 days, we're about 65% finished and we're about 90% finished in the livestream. I really just need to crank out the 3rd gen crops, finish the recipes, and get on in chapters so that I can see a couple more cutscenes and collect all the possible items. I'm hoping to get that out before the remake is released in NA this summer.
