Overlooked your Google maps mention, it is great if you're going by car to Hallstatt but bad for train or bus. Even the OEBB website isnt great has it tries to push you into train only unless you change to advance search. Hence the video, glad it helped you

Hello. Your videos are very helpful. Were planning to go to Berchtesgaden in a few months. Is it possible to do both the konigsee and documentation on the same day?
@Bigboytravel
@Bigboytravel 3 ай бұрын
yes you can, however, it will be a limited experience. We have done the Konigsee Ferry and the Eagles Nest in one day but it really depends on what you want to see. The Konigsee has the ferry which you can do only the the church and back in the winter or all the way to Obersee in the spring-fall which ads the ability for an unbelievable hike. The Dokumenation Center just reopened after a lengthly rennovation and closes at 3pm in winter or 5pm in summer with the last entry an hour before. This is also where you can get access to the Eagles Nest bus. my main recommendation would be to do the Dokumentation Centar and village one day and the Konigsee with hike and Jennarbahn lift another day, either as day trips or an overnight. If that isn't an option, then in a single day, work your way all the way to Konigsee right away in the morning for the first ferry and consider taxiing there from the train/bus station if your connection otherwise has a long wait. Either get out at the church and get the next ferry back, or ride the ferry continuous the entire loop. Bring snacks so you can try to do lunch at the Eagles Nest. After the ferry, either bus or taxi to the Dokumentation Center to get the bus to the Eagles Nest and eat lunch there. The food is only okay, but the view is unmatched and the beer is cold. Do the Dokumentation Center afterward and if you have time left over, the village center is worth a stroll before ending your day. We really fell in love with the village when we did a two night stay to explore without being rushed and it was a different experience then when I have day tripped from Munich or Salzburg in the past. The Salt Mine is very plesant and there is a summer slide luge also, plus a hidden gorge for hiking. We can't wait to get back again this fall. I hope that is helpful.

Is bus 840 part of the regular transit system or do you need to pay it separately?
@Bigboytravel
@Bigboytravel Жыл бұрын
You can buy a round trip ticket but that is the only "deal". It isn't covered by the all day bus passes in thr cities of Salzburg or Berchtesgaden

@@Bigboytravel Thank you, your vides are great as well. Our May trip. Vienna, Graz, Saltzburg, Berchesgaden, Hallstat, Linz, Budapest and leave from Vienna again. I'm trying to figure out the best transportation. Your comment solved one question so far. Thanks
@Bigboytravel
@Bigboytravel Жыл бұрын
@@gunthermally110 everywhere you are going is easily accessible by bus/train. If you are staying overnight in Berchtesgaden or Hallstatt (recommend) then I may suggest the train (or car rental) but otherwise the bus from Salzburg is best if it is just a day trip. Why Linz? Are you leveraging the www.oebb.at/en for your train planning/booking? Thayvis the official website for Austria

@@Bigboytravel Well looking at the map of Austria, it seemed like a nice loop stopping in Linz as it looked like the next larger city. Also I have an aunt in Waidhofen an der Ybbs that may be a nice stop over from linz? I was thinking of renting a car for the entire trip but I think I can avoid city traffic and parking hassles and still be able to stop over if we see something that peaks our interest. Or have you got a better idea than linz or avoid it all together? We have 4 weeks. We like to knock off tourist attractions on our bucket list.
@Bigboytravel
@Bigboytravel Жыл бұрын
@@gunthermally110 if you have an aunt to visit or some ancestry to trace then that would be different, but overall I wouldn't have Linz even in our top 20 places to visit in Austria. There is so many more memorable places to go around Salzburg plus places like Munich aren't for by train. even Prague can be reached from Vienna in 4 hours by train which makes it difficult to prioritize Linz. In that general area you may enjoy places like Melk more for a day, but even that can be a day trip from Vienna.

Did u have to carry your non EU passport at the Austria/German border?
@Bigboytravel
@Bigboytravel 4 жыл бұрын
I'd say yes and no. If you are taking the Bus 840 then your chances of getting your ID checked are almost zero. Even with crossing the border by train you aren't very likely to be checked, but it is a rule of thumb that if you are crossing the German border by train you should have your ID or preferably a passport with you just in case. If you are using the Bayern Pass for example you definitely need your ID as it will be tied to your name which you input at the ticket machine or write down on the ticket. We often bring our passport when doing day trips just in case someone asks for ID when using a credit card as not everyone honors driver's licenses. It can also be a good thing to have in case you are hiking in Berchtesgaden and slip and get hurt etc.

My daughter and I took the 840 bus from Salzburg to Berchtesgaden in January 2019 and no one asked for passports or ID.
@Bigboytravel
@Bigboytravel 4 жыл бұрын
it is pretty rare that anyone would ever check, but if in the odds situation that there is a security issue you would want your ID with you just in case since you are crossing a border.
