I took a two year break. I’m currently 15 years old, and was given the ok to re sign up for a play at our local church (the productions are huge and we usually sell 9k tickets a year.) Due to Covid I had stopped participating. My first show was in 2017 and then stopped in 2020. This year I’m going to be auditioning again, but my voice is pretty out of shape. I found this super helpful, so thank you! Wish me luck 😭😂

My story: my voice was very loud and beautiful. I grew up singing soprano with my youth choir and as a young adult in a praise team at church... Became a mom for the first time, once I finally gave birth to my daughter I made a visit to my church. I stood to sing the worship songs and surprised because my voice was hoarse. I kept trying, but It was so scratchy that I immediately closed my lips. Some say that my voice is passed onto my kids (typical thoughts). From then on I would try to practice and got it back... 2 years ago, I meet a guy who I'm sure was hand pick for me and I mentioned my singing experiences. So he asked me to sing and it didn't come out right. I haven't allowed myself to sing for anyone again. It's been 16 years and I'm praying to get it back.

I relate I got into singing on my mission. When i came home studied with lessons for two years auditioned for degree at university and got in i became a tenor and sang with opera New Zealand for 5 years a chorus member and I conducted a choir for the Prophet Pres Gordon B Hinkley. I learned therapeutic singing practices at uni also and learned the value of falsetto to repair the voice as well.

I have always had a love for singing and music and had dreams of being a big singer and song writer, making it out there in the world, but I’m 14 soon 15 and those dreams are fading because I haven’t been able to sing all that well, BUT I haven’t given up yet! I will keep trying to achieve this dream, it’s all I’ve ever wanted

on top of social distancing making my voice classes nigh impossible, i was sick back in january of this year, not with covid but with something that made me cough like crazy (my poor vocal folds!), for a whole month, and almost completely lost my singing voice! this guide was just what i needed to help get my voice back, thank you so much for posting it

my story : ever since i was a kid, i've always loved to sing. my favorite thing to watch on our television is a show called “ the voice kids ” and i always imagine singing and winning the judges attention. we have a karaoke in our house, and me and my dad loves to wake our family up to our voices. my dad's family is full of singers, and i think that's why i love to sing. then, when i was on elementary my classmates loved my voice and i just sing on stage and win an award. alot of people admire me, and my mom got me into a voice lesson. i improved, and when i was in highschool i compete again and won. but pandemic happened, i stopped singing and now i regret it and have a horrible voice. not horrible actually, but not that good anymore:(

Go to see the ENT Dr. and get your vocal cords scoped to determine if there is any damage or paralysis. Then start working on your voice. There is absolutely zero reason you can't get back to great singing. I've had covid twice, I've had many other students who've had it multiple times. You can do this!

@@PowerToSing hello!! first of all, thank you for responding 。◕‿◕。 well my voice isn't that bad, it's just not as good as it used to be. when pandemic happened, i stopped singing and got into a new hobby. then when i tried to sing after 2 years, it's not that great anymore:( is there any damage on my vocal cords?

Is it possible to recover from vocal cord damage caused by acid reflux with time?
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing 2 ай бұрын
It depends on the severity and the amount of time. It is best to see an ENT, get on medication to stop it, follow their advice with sleep and diet and etc. I've found that stopping eating at 7 pm at night is a huge help. It still took several months for the inflammation to subside...but I largely have recovered. But get with an ENT doctor and let them guide you. Get copies of the images of your vocal cords so you can compare them when you come back to them at 3-6 months followup so you can see the improvement. Make sure your ENT works with singers and has state-of-the-art scopes and video equipment. This video may also help: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rcmCmLmqudumZWg.html

My current problem is that have added too much staccato to everything- even the simple nay nay nay. I don’t know why and I can’t seem to stop it. I also seem to have a dead spot in my lower range. My range had been tested to be C3 to A6 but I don’t know what it is now🤷🏻‍♀️. All I do is critique myself while singing now; it’s just not a fun place to be 🥺
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing 2 жыл бұрын
Lilylowsky, regarding staccato, remove all the consonants and only use vowels. Instead of ney, use "a", instead of mum, only use "uh", instead of "No" only use "oh" no matter the scale. See if you can create a new muscle memory. We all get critical of ourselves sometimes. As a famous "Therapist" once said: "Stop It!"

After not singing for quite some time, I am trying to get my voice back in shape. I have a thyroid condition (hypothyroid). Considering this, can I proceed with vocal exercises the same as I did before my thyroid condition, or are there precautions that I should take?
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay in responding. You should be fine to start exercising your voice and singing again. As with anytime you've started going to the gym, don't over do it with the voice either. Start with 15 - 20 minutes a day and increase the time as you can tolerate it. 30 minutes a day will give you a lot of benefit. Work up to that and see how it feels. Good luck!
