Thanks for the video Chuck, there's so much value! I noticed that my sound has improved but was still uneven and inconsistent, started replacing the words by "ney" and when I come back to the actual words of the song, it is soo much better!

Hi Chuck , this is Jessy, I hope you are fine..I would like you to clear my mind about 5 points ... 1) what I do understand is that you have to apply some 'pressure' , like you compress the sound inside of your mouth ( the pharyngeal area) instead of 'yelling' the sound , am I ok? 2) the dopey sound in the GEE-GEE, GOO-GOO GA-GA exercice and the bratty , crying, witchy sound in the NAY-NAY exercice are just tools to help you perceive and feel where the sound should come from , and HOW it should be sung instead of breaking into a yell or in a breathy falsetto 3) After your body is trained enough to feel where the sound should come from, we should release some of these weird "add-in" ( dopey sound and bratty sound) , to sound more 'natural' 4) If I want to sing POP songs , and have some more " YOUTHFUL" TONE, like the Backstreet Boys, Justin Timberlake , I have to raise my Larynx ..I know in SLS, the Larynx should stay neutral but I watched some videos that explained that for sounding more 'POP' and have this BRIGHT SOUND, you have to raise the larynx ... 5) Is the TWANG sound the same as the ' Bratty' NAY-NAY and what do you think about the TWANG ( Crying, Sobbing, Witchy, ducky) Thank you for the time you are spending on us.. I hope there will be other PLS Live Sessions like before, because it is very useful ..We hope to see you soon ,

1. The easy way to think of it is to do an exaggerated "funny" sound as closely to the demo as possible. 2. The exaggerated witch sound raises the larynx slightly and thins the chest voice. It also deepens the head voice so you don't go into falsetto. The dopy sound lowers the larynx, which helps prevent the larynx from rising and then pulling chest or breaking into falsetto. They are temporary tools 3. Correct. You never want to sing with these exaggerated sounds. Thank would not be at your speech level. 4. Any manipulation of the larynx only introduces unwanted tension and should not be done. The music, lyrics and style of the song will give you the pop sound you want.5. I don't know the definition of twang.

I recently tried to do an exercise from one of your videos. However, I'm not sure if I'm really mixing, or am I a light chest/no chest. I'm regularly told that I lack diaphragmatic support when I sing, so I think I might be a light chest/no chest. Am I able to send the audio clips to you to verify?
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing 2 жыл бұрын
Be sure to take the test: www.powertosing.com/discover-your-vocal-type-wt Light Chest - No Chest is not determined by the use or non use of the diaphragm. It is whether the vocal cords come together firmly enough that excess air is not escaping...which causes the breathy, airy sound and also makes you run out of air too quickly.

What's the difference between normal 5-tone and 1 1/2 tone exercise as per the piano notes.
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing 10 ай бұрын
5 tone intervals are whole and 1/2 steps. The 1 1/2 scale is 1 and 1/2 octave and includes larger intervals...primarily maj and min. 3rds.

I'm a 14 y/o baritone/bass and whenever i do these i dont break but i go to some sort of insanely unstable head voice. I have no idea how to strengthen it and reduce the airiness and/or add chest voice to mix. How can I work on that?

I call bubble lips, "lip twirls". I'm also a fan of tongue twirls, using the back of the tongue. I was wondering how you'd compare the two techniqus? Also, I reach much higher notes doing tongue twirls compared to my lip twirl range. Don't know why. Thank you
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing Жыл бұрын
I can't do tongue trills using the back of my tongue, so I have no insights there. I use the tip of my tongue to do tongue trills and I can go quite high in pitch with them...but it's very close to being the same as lip trills. Both exercises resist the air flow and creates some back pressure which helps the larynx stay down. The relaxed lower larynx enables the vocal cords to adjust easier for the higher pitches. I like both exercise as a way to train the larynx to stay down at speech level and as the same time enable the vocal cords to adjust for higher pitches into the mix and eventually head voice without cracking or strain.

So a song that I would love to sing but I cant because it’s just a little too high, but not too much but I can almost get the high notes, I would practice that song with the exercises you just showed here until I can hit the high notes? In other words pick a song that is kind of high and use that song to practice with? Awesome videos by the way
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing Жыл бұрын
The exercises cause certain things to happen in your voice. If done correctly, these and other exercises will help get the larynx down (which will increase your range) or help connect the tone from low to high voice and so forth. This will help you sing songs that you thought you couldn't do. In reality, you can. You just didn't know how. It's life changing actually. Good luck!

Hallooo Mr. Chuck! Question, when one is just starting to do these exercises, how would they reach the higher notes by not pulling or straining?
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing Жыл бұрын
Best answer is to be very focused on doing these exercises as exactly as you can as I have demonstrated them. Do them softer than you think you should. Many make mistakes by doing them to hard and loud...which causes too much outer muscle involvement and you start pulling and straining.

Is it an air flow issue if my lips stop vibrating (on bubble lips) as I go higher? Even when I come back down they don't resume once they stop.
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing Жыл бұрын
It can be. I seen it especially if the singer is not getting firmly into chest voice as they descend. It can also me tension in the cheeks or lips. Also, try repositioning your fingers. They should be below your lips, not above them.
@dbanksey216
@dbanksey216 2 жыл бұрын
I don't see how doing the bubble exercise and holding your cheeks with your fingers engages your support. The way to engage your support is by doing them without holding your cheeks. People who can't do the Bubble Exercise without holding their cheeks, usually are not supporting.
