I am a physician that reversed my obesity insulin resistance metabolic syndrome fatigue gerd joint pains and losing 90+ lb and 14 inches around my waist in just a short period of time by following the very same principles that Dr Eric Westman is sharing so simply and beautifully here!! No Rx, surgeries or gym memberships!😁 1. Eat Real food! Not from a laboratory! 2. Control carbs! Eat greens &veggies! 3. Prioritize protein:meat fish poultry eggs! 4. Fill with healthy FATS & salt to taste! 5. Eat if you're hungry, don't if you're not! *Avoid making your food/drink sweet! *Avoid the distraction/complexity of trying to recreate your old carby foods!😁 *Exercise can wait! (until you get closer to your ideal body weight/health! Exercise is not a weight loss tool and it can actually be counterproductive!) 👍 I have had the honor and privilege of meeting Dr Westman in person on several occasions. I have never met anyone with more wisdom and passion to share this message of healing and weight loss using simple dietary and lifestyle changes that are accessable to everyone! God bless you Dr Westman for the many decades of service and commitment to sharing your message of healing. We are all better for it. 🙏

Ramon Issa Thank you Dr. Issa for posting this simple to follow list. It pretty much sums it up on how to stick to a low carb lifestyle. I am going to print it out and stick it on my fridge to help keep me going forward. I am in my 60’s and have been on Keto ( or should say trying to stick to Keto ) for the last year. I have only lost 24 lbs. I need to lose another 50lbs. to be healthier. I’ve had a few set backs because of health issues. Now next month I am scheduled for minor surgery , I have been worried about not being able to exercise . I usually workout 3-4 days per week. But now that I’ve watched Dr. Westmans video and read your post I feel much confident that I can do this. Thanks again!

Once again Doc....thank you for the simplicity. The macros and ratios and all of the other hype about needing supplements out there can make you feel as enslaved as you did when you followed a calorie restricted diet, or any other diet plan. When I fell off the wagon on other eating plans, I would sing the song of "oh well, I went and did it again so I might as well eat 4000 calories of junk." Keto the Dr. Westman way has given me great success, and also permission to forgive myself if I eat off plan for a day or a meal. I am still 100 lbs to the good! Forever indebted to you Doctor W.

Regarding Intermittent Fasting, too many people make the mistake of going "cold turkey" on carbs. You need to increase your fasting window very gradually. Eventually you will be able to do 16 hours fasting, or 18 hours, or 20 hours or one meal a day (OMAD). Keep in mind that your body will eventually adapt to any IF schedule you are on. The key is to vary your schedule. Never stay on any one schedule for too long. Change things up. Eat a higher carb meal every now and then. Experiment with your body, track your progress, and see what works best for you.

Hey Dr Westman, you're so pleasant to listen to. I bought Dr. ATKINS' book back in the early 90s and followed the regiment closely. My weight loss hit a plateau after a month and it turned out I was eating too many nuts and cheese. Also, I found doing the induction phase for at least 4 weeks instead of 2 (the 20 gram max carbs) helped my body get in the groove. When I was 49 and in the throws of menopause I did Atkins for 3 months and dropped 18 pounds. My older sister kept scolding me for not eating fruit, cereal with fiber etc.... said I was going to have a heart attack. After a month her husband asked what I was doing and I answered the opposite of my sister. Her breakfast was GoLean cereal with fruit, nonfat milk, orange juice and tea. 17 years later she's having eggs for breakfast, no more cereal or juice and feeling better and keeping her weight in check

I'm 80 years old and it ''appears'' to me it's the way we all ate normally back in the 50's. There was only one fast food in our city - actually, not even fast food since it was a taco place and they made them while you waited … I recall my father bringing donuts home ONE time. We ate sensibly, no snacks in between meals - it was just the normal way of life. If you were to look at some of the photos of the 50's you seldom see any fat people. There was only one girl in our school who was considered "fat" (back then). Today she would only be considered 'plump.'

hi doctor. when u do IF and keto, you literally lose your hunger for many hours. 16-20 hours is easy if u eat keto cause your body is using ketones from your own body fat. i am a person that can’t handle the hunger feeling so powering through is not my kind of thing. when i started keto i had to go to 16/8 cause i was so full from the first meal, cuz the fat was so satiating, that i couldn’t eat the second meal til much later. grehlin decreases so hunger not there til body says hey need more food. I understand u r saying IF not necessary but many of us stumbled into IF cause we just couldn’t eat 3 times a day. they kind of go hand in hand. i’m just addressing the comment about IF and powering through. I realize you are focusing on just what constitutes keto and that IF is really a separate tool. I love your humility and your simplicity. btw i was 232 down to 190 got more to go female 53 with hashimotos. what i like about IF is it helps controls calories cause with 3 meals it is too easy to go over daily energy expenditure. with two meals a day, i can better control it, although i can still go over if i want to. with three it’s a guarantee for me cuz i have a hearty appetite.

In addition the intermittent fasting long term would heal damage the damage carbohydrates have done to my body. It was a serious learning curve because for years you are told vegetables are good for you ( which they are) but in moderation. When I calculated how many carbs were in a “ healthy salad” yikes! I was eating a ton of carbs just in veggies. So, I keep my carbs under 20grams a day...increased my fat ( good fats, olive oil, butter, coconut oil) got rid of seed oils. I got rid of grains, upped my protein. My god it has been exactly 18 days. I’ve lost almost 13 pounds. My aches and pains are disappearing daily, I have a ton of energy ( because I don’t hurt). Best of all, I quit snoring. Drs. Have wanted to send me to sleep studies, hollered about getting the weight off....come to find out, I was obviously allergic to something I was eating that cause my airway to be inflamed. Keto sure is a good elimination diet...perhaps people have food allergies like me without knowing it that is causing them other problems. I can’t tell you how good I feel in this short amount of time. I wished I found this years ago. I’m 58 and look forward to the last part of my life to be more healthy than I was basically my entire adult life with yo-yo dieting and discouragement.

I always thought that the Keto and Atkins diets were to get rid of the sugars forever!! Here I go and beginning all new with this diet! Thanks again

I don't have a weight issue but have been attempting a low carb diet to reverse my pre-diabetic condition (Hemoglobin A1C 6.1.) I drastically decreased the amount of carb intake without reading the labels and thought I was doing ok . I had no idea that I was consuming 150-200 g of carb daily. I just realized it when I googled the carb content after hearing Dr. Westman's 20 g recommendation. No wonder why my A1C isn't going down. Thanks to you, Dr. Westman.

Great tip on 'keto creations", there are so many recipes online for keto cookies/brownies/cakes/etc. and though I make an exception every few weeks for one... I try to keep in mind that I'm trying to lose weight and the calories would be better from some protein or veggies vs the sweets that are hard to refuse.

Yeah Hi to everyone it's only been 7 days and I started some form of keto he is right there is a lot out there. Keep it simple. One thing I notice I'm really not hungry you have to really make yourself eat. I kept my coffee drink which helps me not to be constipated I just use heavy whipping cream and cacao powder or you could even put vanilla extract . I didn't want to give up my coffee also at Costco I found these little cheetah chocolate things with coconut there's only one carb so I'll have 1 or 2 of those A-day and believe it or not almost every fast food has some kind of keto option I'm a Uber driver that was very important to me

I do intermittent fasting with keto.I am 51 years old and my regime is 18:6 or 20:4. I keep my carbs under 30 g net carbs a day. I am very rarely hungry and have much more energy and mental clarity than I ever used to have when I filled my body full of sugars. I’ve never had any health problems such as diabetes or high blood pressure and although categorised as obese the heaviest I’ve been at 5ft 7in was 15 stone 12 however I was still only in a size 18 clothes. My reason for changing the way I eat is because I just didn’t feel happy as I was. My unhealthy lifestyle was triggering migraines all the time and my mood swings were really bad. That has massively improved now and even my perimenopause symptoms seem to have calm down. Intermittent fasting is the way our bodies are designed to eat. In the prehistoric times they did not have Pringle bushes and the hunter gatherers did not go out hunting burgers. If they didn’t manage to hunt successfully they went hungry that day and they did not die. They also ate a diet of predominantly protein. We are still programmed that way. Low fat means high sugar so let’s stop diabetes and heart disease by getting rid of sugar. Eat high fat, high protein, low carb and adopt an IF/Keto lifestyle to improve every aspect of your health. ❤️

Thank you for your research ...and this "more approachable" perspective. It will be 2 years in keto for me and I must say that although I am satiated, I also am very much still addicted to sugars. The donuts roll in to the office and my receptors/triggers go off the charts. Resisting it is achievable 99.9% but it it still an issue.

I started Keto in July of 2018. I have lost over 100 pounds since then and kept it off. I tell people all the time that it was Keto that finally worked for me. Over the last 6 months, I have been completely stalled. I am still sticking to the diet and Have not gained the weight back but I am not losing. I will watch your videos. I hope to find something to help me break this plateau so I can lose the last 40 pounds I want to lose. Do you know of one in particular that would help?

You may need to change your eating up a little. Some people overcome the plateau by having a cheat day. If you have stuck with it and not cheated (not saying binge), you’re to be congratulated 🎉. Maybe it will help🤷‍♀️

Thanks Dr. Westman for this video. IF comes naturally for me because I don't eat breakfast. Upon waking up in the morning I felt full whether I had dinner or not the night before. Last year I decided to lower my carbs intake (LC + IF). With LC+IF, I lost 30 lbs and 3" waistline. When I'm doing IF, I let hunger guides me when to eat. I do not let myself starve.

Me too. No matter what I eat or the way I eat. Keto or not, eating in the morning too soon after a night fast, I get stomach cramping. My digestive system seem to sleep later than me. I don't usually get hungry until near 11/12.
