What they don't tell you is how DANGEROUS this is. Walkers aren't made for this and can slip very easily, and when (not if) they do, you're in for a very nasty fall, and there's a good chance you're getting another fracture.

Nice, would love to see how to do it with only one leg weightbearing though. It would be easy if you could put both feet down like this guy. This video is different than what I was shown in PT (up with the good, down with the bad), so not sure this is a safe way to do this.

Sorry Shelley but it's "up with the good, down with the bad" or strong leg first.

You lead with the good leg going up, the bad leg going down. The Good go up to Heaven the Bad go down to Hell. (PT school)

Bad and dangerous advice. These stairs are a joke. no one has this type of wide stair on their home. Using a walker on stairs . Is a real no no . wheels on walker can roll at any time !! The person in the video appears to have good strength and reflex. Most people recovering / needing a walker are in a weekend state . If their weight is not distributed properly, they are nervous ,or unsteady and that walker fly's. the fall could not only cause more severe injury, It could kill you. What is the matter with you ? Ask any medical Person trained in PT, or your Doctor and they will be shocked at this advice. I told PT about this video. They were upset this was even on here.

I could use some BETTER ADVICE, PLEASE. With hip replacement in ~a month, I'm left wondering how I'm gonna get up my 2 porch steps. The depth of the first step up is shallow, and there's not a lot of room side-to-side because of landscaping. Suggestions?

It is a double problem if the good leg is weak and unsteady because of old injurues or old age.

Uh, when I watch, it clearly denotes the RIGHT leg as BAD. Therefore, see the dude go "Up with the Good[leg]. Down with the Bad[leg]."
@johnwright6139

Ah, BAD advice. Use strong leg up. Will not work safely on normal stairs as the ones in the video are very wide so walker on only two steps with manageable angle.
@francesinez126

Uh, at 1:10, it clearly says and shows him going UP with his GOOD [left] leg.

But I agree with your "normal stairs" comment. I'm preparing for hip replacement and wondering how I'm gonna get up my 2 porch steps. The depth of the first step up is shallow, and there's not a lot of room side-to-side because of landscaping.

How do you do multiple steps without rails using a walker, no one demonstrates this, please help bc I’m being stopped from doing things bc I’m afraid of the steps w/o rails
@Trytocookthis

You might have to scoot on your butt. It's what I did in the old place I lived in before moving to an apartment .... still have a few steps, but their are rails. thank goodness. But I'm still in therapy and hoping to venture out soon.

@@Trytocookthis Best wishes with therapy, it’s not easy but so helpful. It’s a real struggle for me dealing w/steps that have no rails, I dread going anywhere I have to contend with them. I do the butt scooting on stairs inside, going down & lately I literally have to crawl to get back up, my brother has a full flight of stairs & I truly do my best to avoid them whenever I’m there, it’s sad how badly my mobility has declined. Keep up the good work w/your therapy, stay safe and thank u for reaching out♥️💫✨👼🏻✨💫♥️

@@angelacampana7058 Angela, I hope it gets better. When this journey first started back in June...... I got out of the hospital after a fasciotomy... and literally had to crawl into the house. It was a real downer. things seem to be looking better as time goes by. Blessings.

If I had a railing I wouldn't need a walker, would I?
@josi7690
@josi7690 4 ай бұрын
That's not necessarily true. I have to use a walker and although I haven't tried this method, I need to hang on to something with both hands. Those railings are too far apart for both arms to reach simultaneously.

@@mauricio6710 Well, that was exactly what I was looking for (going up/down the shallow first step of my front porch with no railing), so it was a help to me, after searching many, many vids for that. There are plenty of other vids out there, so hopefully you can find one that fits our particular circumstances. Good luck with whatever challenge you have that requires a walker. Cheers.
