Hello! This video shows how to apply gold leaf to furniture. I am using the Mona Lisa Gold Leaf Kit from Amazon. I am really happy with how this white and gold dresser turned out and had so much fun using gold leaf I will definitely try it again!

There's probably a dust bag on the back of the sander. As for the paint, I would love to know how she doesn't get it all over the carpet!!

This is the best Gold leaf video I have seen yet.. many times we all have been painting for a long time, and are looking for a specific technique minus all the prep and review of the entire day.. I am grateful for all the videos people take time to make and share, but I travel and work a lot and need "the facts" and this nailed it... awesome job and love the dresser..

Ashley, thank you for a great video - love how this piece turned out! Would love to try doing this. Can you please answer how the gold effect has held up. I ready that if not real gold leaf is used then the look tarnishes and turns weird colors or gets very dull - how does the piece look now? Is the gold effect holding up? Hi Marianna, I sold this dresser so I haven't seen it since refinishing it but the product sealer that comes with the kit claims to protect it from tarnishing.

I notice in other videos, involving furniture paint, like mineral paint or chalk paint, people are really prepping pieces with product like TSP or White lightening, and then do scuff sanding for paint to adhere properly (even though that type of paint being advertised as no sanding pain). My question is, you are using regular acrylic paint by Valspar, on the pretty much shiny surface. How is this going to work? Acrylic paint, especially latex paint, is very smooth and have zero grab to the shiny surface. I did wrong many times with it, it would peal at places. I would like to hear from you on this. I am trying to make process of furniture re-do easier and cheaper. This is the most easiest yet way I came across with )) Maybe the trick is primer/paint two in one?

hi Ashley lovely video 😁 I am having problem with the gold leaf in that after sticking it, & when removing excess with brush the gold flies everywhere onto the painted sides & sticks there (even though there is no glue!!) & impossible to remove even with a very fine. Grit, any advise please ? Thanku

The gold leafing will cover your previous paint I wouldn’t worry about sanding it

I did with mine I think the sealer they give you is to keep the gold from changing colors.

Hi Trace! I just posted a link to the Mona Lisa Gold Leaf Kit in the description. I used a White Paint and Primer, Sand paper and a sanding block (not sure the grit just what I had around), to seal the dresser I used Minwax finishing paste. Thanks for your comment and I hope I helped!

Hi could you tell me what the paint is ? it sounded like you said (goop paint). in the UK we have emulsion which is used for plastered walls either satin gloss or matt finish, for wood we use mostly gloss paint or eggshell which has a hard finish. other than that its a metal paint with undercoat Many thanks

She said Oops paint. Here, at our home improvement stores, if the person behind the paint counter messes up a paint order (so the paint result wasn't what the customer ordered) then they redo it for the customer, then they discount the "oops" and put it in an area where people looking for small batches of random paints can get some for a cheaper price. Since it was an oops (sounds like the paint person made a bad color) then the youtuber didn't know what color it was.

My question is, did the dresser have a shiny finish to it before you put the paint on? I have a dresser (it has a shiny slippery finish to it) and I want to paint it. I'm just not sure what paint to use because I've been told I have to sand the furniture or use matte paint and then a shiny coating because if I put satin or semi gloss on a shiny surface the paint won't stick. Is this true? 🤔

Yes it did. If you have a good quality paint you will be fine. I don’t have a problem with my paint sticking I usually use Valspar.

I've got an 60's American version of a French Provincial that's similar to yours and was thinking about Navy and Silverleaf but not sure of the ratio. Also, did you gold leaf the pulls too? Was thinking I needed to update the pulls but now not so sure? Any comments or advice is appreciated. :) Love the project you did and I don't even LIKE gold!

Navy and silver sounds really pretty! I like to spray paint my hardware. I have never tried leafing on pulls I just worry about putting it somewhere that it would be handled a lot. Good luck on your project!!!

SKKS SKKS Valspar signature paint and primer satin interior paint I’m not sure the name of the color though it was an oops paint.

Hey Jill, when people return paint to Home Depot or Lowe’s the paint desk will add random pigment to change the paint color. They don’t leave it the original mixed color. That way customers can’t go back and buy the hugely discounted paint. I do recommend Valspar in the color Perfect White though it’s my favorite.

It looks good but you wasted way too many leaves of gold you could have just laid it on there and it would have happened ready and then brush it I've done it several times you wasted paper

After refinishing antique furniture for years....it should be a federal crime to apply any form of pain to gorgeous wood like that....looks good dont get me wrong....but the paint does destroy the wood and will cost about $700-$1,000 to refinish it back to the wood....not unless its that press board wood then yea paint away...
