In this video I show you how to graft a pup scion on a adult san pedro cactus stock (Trichocereus Pachanoi, strain Cerdanyola-A1).

I have only had problems with rot recently, after trying to offset the scion and rootstock rings. I have by far had more success centering the scion. Thanks for the video! Nevada, USA

The main reason that I don't try to perfectly line up the vascular rings is that the scions vascular ring is usually smaller than the rootstock, if you line it up perfectly, the scions ring will line up inside of the stocks ring, the graft under this condition they will either fail or grow very slowly

Winter is coming! I have a box of san pedro seedlings that I planted in February, what should I do with them now to prevent etiolation? You should also consider making a video about what to do with your cacti when winter arrives.

Grafting slightly off center is best as it allows some of the vascular tubes to merge together, once some grow together the union will start. After the union is started more vascular tubes are connected between scion and stock. Also for stock I can vouch for using Trichocereus Spachianus aka sun goddess

hi, love your videos. if i graft a trichocereus pachanoi top onto a non trichocereus cactus, will it keep original pachanoi properties? or should i only graft trichocereus onto trichocereus?

Should rings overlap? My Answer: Vascular Rings Overlapping slightly is best as it ensures that at least some of the vascular tubes overlap. Consider if the vascular ring of the Scion was smaller. If you placed it in the centre of the rootstock's vascular ring none of the vascular tubes would overlap. I'm not an expert on cacti so perhaps I am wrong.

I know you said you haven't done a lot of grafting but if you ever get around to micrografting to pereskiopsis I'd love a video on it. I have tried 3 times so far with no success.

I have recently been given a pereskiopsis by a friend, but it's not doing too well at the moment. If it recovers, I'll do that video :)

A couple months ago I ordered a san pedro cutting and have been having great success with it, unfortunately I just learned it's a pc. So ill just graft a non-pc onto it!

Was the tip of the stock able to root? It seems a little unnecessary checking for vascular ring width, at least so high up the stock.

Hey Jerry I have a question! I got 3 San Pedro seedlings from you about a year ago. All 3 grew for about 30 cm this year. The problem is that all 3 did not grow a lot in thickness, just in height. therefore I still have to place wooden sticks next to 1 of those 3 because else it would fall over. Can you maybe give me some tips what I should do so they can also become thicker? Maybe I gave them too much water this summer? All 3 are in pots with 16cm diameter.

Thanks I bought from you a fast growing sanpedro seedling is growing nice I don't know at what height I should cut it to clone and get pups. I also have pups more than 50cm should I leave them or replant them separetly, for faster grow? Please this questions are so important for me and I can't find an answer! Thanks very much

If you want to clone and get pups, I would wait for a few years until the plant has grown quite a bit, especially in width. The longer you wait, the better the results in my opinion. As for the 50cm branches, I would leave them, they will grow faster if still attached to the main plant.

No. Once the taproot is gone unless it’s grafted a lophophora will probably die.

Is there any artificial gel or liquid to add to a graft union to ensure moisture? I have considered wound hydrogel etc

I sometimes squeeze the slices of cactus onto the grafting area. Just use the juice that comes out when you squeeze it. You seem like me, a tendancy to want to over-engineer things

Dont put that shit, its going to mess the graft the best its his oun juice (whit any cactus) i also dont like the silica gel for the pots its going to get worst whit the time

If you grow cacti under a grow light and use a timer, is it still a good idea to do like a hibernation cycle or can you just let them continue to grow all year around with the same number of hours of light exposure?

(Someone I know) , grows San Pedro indoors under grow lights all winter. If you give them proper conditions they will continue growing. 🌵 ☀️

I'm coming back to say yes, you can graft a mid cut. Since my question, I learned about slab grafts and aerole grafts too. Google it if you aren't familiar with those terms.

⚠️Never Graft in 🌦️Rainy season🌧️⚠️, Because in Rainy season the mosture is very high hence it can cause fungus to your both stock and Scion which lead to your cacti die.

I have a tip for you: If you want to make a perfectly flat even cut, don't use a sawwing motion with the knife. Use one smooth slice. If you saw back and forth with the knife, the knife is moving in all kinds of directions. I learned that from making sushi. Sushi chefs will slice sashimi with only 1 smooth slicing motion. Sushi chefs are perfectionists.
