Cardboard is great, but what I like even better is a old piece of carpet 3' x 6'. You can roll it up when you are done, and store it. You can find them all the time when people are replacing carpet

I’ve watched this video a couple of times but just realized I’ve missed an important point- I haven’t been raising my front end off the ground when greasing the front axle. I grease every 8-10 hrs religiously with polyurea grease but I see now I haven’t been doing this one fitting right. Going to get this one done correctly this weekend, thanks Mike! 👍

I bought a Lube Shuttle from Mike and am I ever glad I did. I got the lever action pump handle one, to me a step up from the piston grip model. It is fantastic. It’s clean, easy to use, super easy to load and stores without mess, leaking etc. I highly recommend this product, especially for us older guys with back, shoulder etc problems.

I had a 1975 Massey 255 in the eighties. Had lost the Kingpin zerk and didn’t realize it was missing. Mid 80’s had to replace this kingpin. Part was not that expensive, but total cost of repair was about $1000. A good grease gun is a plus and likely aids in timely greasing the tractor. Good video.

A must have is the Alemite Zerk-Mate Grease Fitting/Joint Cleaner. With older tractors this tool really helps clogged up zerks and joints. I've cleared 3 original zerks that would not accept any grease whatsoever with it on my 1977 MF 184-4. Sometimes a little heat with a blowtorch was needed but this thing really does a great job at freeing up all that old hardened grease.

Cardboard is the ultimate ez slide, multi/all surface, low profile creeper that doesn't roll when torquing a bolt, is disposal when soiled, and you get a free piece with every purchase. I've never seen a 4x8 piece of cardboard :) and just slide unfolded shipping boxes around where I need them, smaller pieces are easy to dispose of when soiled, and they can slide a drip pan out from under your vehicle with ease. I've used carboard since the 70's because I got tired of creepers rolling over my long hair lol. Bonus uses... prevents over spray when painting, makes patterns and cutouts, and is a great "disposable" drip pan.

Clutch Pedal, Brake Pedal, 4wd Driveline & Driveline Shield, and possibly even the PTO engagement shaft (if mechanical) . Depends on your tractor make model there could be a few more or less.

Handy tool that grease gun. Are the cartridges the same brand as grease gun, never seen threaded ends on grease cartridges in Australia. Good to know about the knuckle most times I don't to be honest, most people would be to lazy to get under there and think it will be rite. Even better Mike put a hose on it so it's easier and you don't have to get on the ground, but universal joints are under there as well I suppose so u have to get under there. I wonder if anyone will come up with a idea to grease universals easier such a pain. Some logging truck tyre inflators/deflators have a set up where they spin alot at a joint , maybe someone will come up with a idea one day and make life even easier, or a app on phone that will do it. Now I'm dreaming. Thanks Mike and keep the clean side of card board up.

Great video But in my opinion you left out 1 important detail. Im not a farmer but I've grease many industrial equipment. You didn't clean the zerk. In fact if you wipe off a zerk and look closely at the ball in the zerk there will be dirt or sand around the ball. So you need to do a though cleaning job. In industry i wiped down the area around the zerk removed the zerk and I installed a clean as new zerk injected clean grease. Then I replaced the zerk with a cap. If the zerk is absolutely clean then you dont need to go to the extra trouble. But I'll bet if you are only cleaning with a rag and not cleaning around the check ball you are injecting dirt into your bearing or journal. Just as well skip greasing it if you puting grit into your bearing.

Mark, you can Google "zerk cleaning tool" and you'll find some options. I've not had any experience with any of them to recommend one versus another. You may have to replace the zerk, and there are many different sizes being used right now. Here's the best video on the topic: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iL2WirWb0bfTkoU.html

Hi Mike, I'm a new tractor owner with an abundance of ignoranc...old Kubota won't hold its hydraulic pressure(bucket slowly descends). Any suggestions?
@TractorMike
@TractorMike 3 жыл бұрын
Hydraulic leak down can happen on any tractor, usually it means that a seal is starting to leak and the weight of the loader or bucket is pushing oil back through the system. If it's an external seal, there'll be oil in a puddle somewhere, an internal leak means the seal is just letting oil circulate back through the system. I have three videos for you to watch that will explain what's going on. First, I had the same problem a few years ago and this is what it looked like: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g7xhebdmyL3LimQ.html. Second, here's a video that show what's going on inside a hydraulic cylinder: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hNR9hKiJ39ORmZc.html, finally, here's a video showing the technician repairing the problem: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sJ15ac5207rZmqM.html. After you've watched those I think you'll have an idea of what your situation is. If it's gradually leaking down while it's parked I probably wouldn't mess with getting it fixed, but if you're constantly having to adjust the joystick to keep it up in the air then it's time to get it fixed. I would never recommend fixing it yourself unless you have a lot of hydraulic experience, I wouldn't try it myself. Good luck!

I'm going to look for that axle zerk, Mike! How did you know when there was enough grease? As your viewer stated, it looks like it's sealed. I'm a weekend farmer too, but I think I want an electric grease gun! Thanks for the demo. -Ed

Ed, I listen for the crinkling sound when excess grease is expelling. I don't know if that's right or not, some areas that you have to grease, it's hard to see when the cavity is full and grease is coming out. I didn't show it in the video but one of my loader zerks didn't make any sound and I thought it was out of grease so I kept pumping. Ended up with a gob of grease the size of a walnut underneath the cylinder.

Just a question regarding greasing. I take a special effort to ensure that I keep up with greasing per the mfg recommendation. Problem is, I end up with grease all over the place. This is particularly true on the FEL. Your tractor always looks so clean even though you have regularly instructed to maintain the tractor with regular greasing. Do you just always cleanup excess grease post greasing? Am I over greasing? or am I just a messy greaser? Thanks, Randy in Canton, Ohio

Cardboard adds a little cushioning on that concrete also. My JD #2305's manual makes no mention of such lube points in the maintenance section. Would that indicate that it does not have them?
