I like your comments related to climbing hydrangea. It takes us to the question "What is bonsai?" which I think would elicit quite varied responses. When the woman responsible for the growth of interest in bonsai in Fort Worth TX, and a founder of the bonsai club, opened a business many years ago, she named it Artistic Plants. I consider that a brilliant decision, and I thought of it when you talked about creating a wall as part of a ficus planting. Is it bonsai? Maybe yes, maybe no, maybe it doesn't matter. I enjoy your Q&A videos.

A word by word translation of bonsai is growing plants in a pot. So, it can be anything that pleases you.d

@@MiltonChang-ee6rq Your statement is true. It caused me to remember that Ms. Flather of Artistic Plants would say, "Is it a bonsai or is it a shrub in a pot?"

I live in Minnesota. Growing seedlings like maples or even Black pine will not survive the winter season here. So what do you do to thicken the trunk

Im thinking about building small cold frame boxes with a glass lid and mulching inside it in the winter. Idk seems like it would work.

I think they would survive in the ground, not a pot, but I would pile hay on top if they are very small.

Thank you all for your input. Obviously seedling grows in MN. Hard to survive when the shallow bonsai freezes over...Therefore on possibility is to bury the bonsai in the cound, cover it with topsoil or mulch do it does not freeze ocver. Or out it in your garage. Have fun!

I’ve enjoy your videos. Not much to criticize. We do somethings different but that’s not a bad thing. The one thing that catches my attention is you don’t seem to speak to people that don’t live in a place where they have property. Not everyone can plant trees or bushes in the ground. There are many deck bonsai people out there.

He has a lot in the past about taking a 1 gallon nursery plant to show their potential, without ever putting it into the ground outside.

Hi there, I understand the frustration. For those who don't have property, I recommend growing shohin bonsai and keeping it near a window or a place where it can get sunlight. I recently did a video on a bunch of shohin bonsai that anyone can own: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e9OPZ5x4qcjGZqs.html Just like the other viewer said, you can also buy nursery plants from Home Depot and keep them in their growing pots instead of the ground.
