I read on one site to NOT wear VINYL or CLOTH gloves for protection from their sap, as the toxin/s go through those. One specifically said to wear plastic gloves. Another says: "Nitrile gloves may be protective . . .".

What if I stick the stems in the ground...will they grow?

No because they originally grow from tubers. they do spread after a few years so you can divide the tubers...

Hi, I'm from Poland/Europe zone 6-7 At extreme we have in the summer up to +35°C (could be for a few days) average 20-25°C and in the winter extreme is -30°C (for a few days) avarage between +5°C and -5°C. My alstromeria is in the pot, for a winter will be hidden in a garage with a window, temperature inside will be around 8°C. Is my princess going to survive it? Should I remove/pluck out all foliage for the winter and leave roots in the soil and water it from time to time? I was removing foliage during summer vegetataion to encurage growth of roots and new stemps and it was working. What should I do for the winter? Regards!

Alstroemerias can withstand temperature down to -15c. No need to molly coddle.

@cheriesullivan1494
@cheriesullivan1494 6 жыл бұрын
Sarban Sengupta actually they are tropical plants!! They are not meant to grow in colder climates. They do best in zone 9 and up!! Zone 7 or below, good luck! They are tropical.....

Pick your varieties carefully. Some ARE in fact more cold hardy and will live through multiple winters in Zone 7 or 6.

Everyone needs to know, these are TROPICAL PLANT!!! They don’t do weell up north. She’s telling you wrong. These go in full sun!! She doesn’t know what she’s talking about in zone 9 and up. Also there are hundreds of hybrids! The plants don’t all look the same. In fact there is a hybrid, princess lily Fabianna. It’s leaves don’t look like your typical princess lily. (Princess lily, or Peruvian lily is the name they actually go by, the flower she’s talking about in this video.) anyway... the Fabianna looks similar to a hosta!! It has larger lighter green leaves with white borders all around each lily. If you saw the plant, with no flowers you most likely wouldn’t know it’s one of the flowers this lady is talking about! Tons of these flowers need FULL sun, especially up north. Some varieties need part sun here in zone 9 and up. So, be careful watching these videos, the information is extremely limited and incorrect!!!

@@grahamthomas6283 I live in London and mine have been on my terrace with no protection for about 10 years... in winter the flowers stop but you still have all the leaves, until the flowers start again in the summer.
