Hello, this is Algae.
Everyone, do you like Chinese chive?
I like to eat dishes made with Chinese chives.
Chinese chive, which has so many different recipes such as pancake and soup, is a useful vegetable in Korean food culture.
I like Chinese chives so much, I started growing Chinese chives from seeds a long time ago.
Since I started growing Chinese chives, it seems that I have been to the market very few times to buy Chinese chives.
How about making a small space for Chinese chive in your garden?
I hope this video will give you pleasure.
Have a nice day :)
Thank you.

Hello, this is Algae. I am glad that my video was helpful to you :) If the seeds you purchased germinate and grow successfully, Chinese chive will provide you with fresh leaves every year. In addition, Chinese chives reproduce themselves through bulbs, which will increase the yield each year. I wish Chinese chives to thrive in your garden. For reference, Chinese chive is a vegetable that is usefully used in Korea, Japan, and China belonging to Northeast Asia. I hope that Chinese chive will enrich your diet. Have a good day :) PS. Since it seems highly likely that you are a foreigner, I answered in English. Thank you for leaving a comment in Korean. 고마워요 :)

@@Algae_algae Thank you for your encouragement (yes, my Korean is very basic at the moment, I wouldn't be able to understand what you have written if it was in Korean)

Great video! I have one question. Do they winter over? Should I bring them indoors? Or just start again the next year?

Hello this is Algae. Thank you for the good question :) Chinese chive is a plant that can survive the Korean winter outdoors. Like tulips and daffodils, the leaves wither at the end of autumn and sprout again the following spring. If your country or city is located in a temperate climate, outdoor cultivation is strongly recommended. Have a good day :)

was it not important as to what type of soil you used ? also, did you keep them in the dark to propogate, or left them open to the elements ? all these kinds of information is very important to beginners. Cheers

Hello this is Algae. Thank you for leaving a nice question :) Because Chinese chives are so adaptable, they have no limitations as long as the pH is around neutral. They increase their bulbs at a slow rate each year. And every year from late summer to early fall, it produces white flowers and black seeds. Unless they are covered by the leaves of other grasses or receive significant competition from the roots of other plants, they do not require special care. It is enough to provide a little fertilizer periodically during spring and summer. I am planning to prepare very detailed guide videos on vegetables. And Chinese chive will be featured in a renewed video in the plan. Have a good day :)

This was a great video! I live in Australia and I've been trying to grow them from seeds without success. I've tried in the ground, in a paper towel in a hot house, and on the window sill in a covered glass on cotton wool. Even though they sprout, eventually the sprouted root gets mushy and dies. The root never get bigger than 1cm. Do you have any ideas why?

Hello this is Algae. Thank you for the nice question :) Have you germinated seeds of Chinese chives and then left them on paper towels and cotton wool? If so, I suggest you try sowing the seeds into the soil. Young sprouts of plants of the Liliaceae family, including Chinese chives, are weak. So I sow their seeds in the soil and transplant them elsewhere only after they have grown to a certain level. I do not prefer to germinate and transplant Liliaceae seeds on paper towels. Although their seeds and sprouts are weak, they show a stronger appearance in a harsh environment. If you fail to get good quality seedlings from seed, I recommend purchasing few seedlings and propagating their bulbs. May your seeds grow safely. Have a good day :)
