Another tip: you can root the cosmo cuttings. They root easily in water or just stick them back in the dirt. Love them🌼

I am in Florida and decided to begin Cosmos from seed in pots. When they got about 12 inches tall after pinching I decided to put them into the ground. Meanwhile a couple days later I noticed two of the 6 plants were cut off by 8 inches, decapitated and leafless. Next thing you know all of them day after day were victim to the same thing. Chopped off and only a stem 5 inches remains. What do you think could have done this and do you think they will grow back?

We often deadhead some of ours to prevent so much self seeding, however, at least they are easy to pull out if not wanted. The pinching back makes a much bushier plant.

@johnnyAGardening
@johnnyAGardening Жыл бұрын
The three main reasons that Cosmos do not flower are: Lack of sun, they need lots of sun to set buds. Over fertilising. Too much fertiliser leads to lots of foliage and no buds. Cosmos like a poor soil. Over watering. They need good drainage and not a lot os water. Hope these hints are a help.

Yes seedlings require thinning. The general rule is to plant them at 12 inches (30cm) apart. As you prune them early on they branch out/ We sometimes plant the small growing ones closer, in good soil usually 8 inches (20 cm)

So now trying with just grow lights and no humidity dome?

Chocolate Cosmos (cosmos atrosanguineus) seeds are generally sterile, propagation is by division or other vegetative methods. Purity and others should be OK and yes lower the humidity, just a little moisture.

@@johnnyAGardening 12 degrees Celsius can bear it! Meaning when it is grown at a temperature of 25 degrees, for example, and then it germinates and the plant grows well between 20-16 degrees Celsius, as was indicated to me, but when it falls below 16, does its growth stop! How many blooms it needs! I live in Bahrain and our weather is hot but there is no frost, the lowest temperature that can drop is 11 or 10 degrees Celsius! What effect does it have on the cosmos when it is grown at temperatures of 25 degrees Celsius, for example!
