Propagating magnolia trees from cuttings is possible. The video shows how to grow magnolia tree from cuttings in a pot. Watch the simple step-by-step procedure for rooting magnolia cuttings with high success rate. I am growing magnolias in containers in Sydney, Australia. The procedure to grow a magnolia tree from cuttings is good for all types of magnolias including Little gem, saucer, brown beauty, teddy bear, Jane, and southern magnolia trees.

You can do the following: 1. Feed the tree with seaweed solution. 2. Remove any weeds around the tree. Apply a thick layer of the mulch on the soil by mixing cow manure: 1 bag, sulfate of potash: 1 tablespoon, blood & bone powder: 1 tablespoon, and dolomite: 2 tablespoons. Cover this with a thick layer of sugar cane mulch. 3. If the tree has many branches, then cut a few inches of one or two stems at the growing tip end. In the next season, new branches and leaves should emerge on that stem. If that happens, then you can repeat for the other branches. Good luck.

Thank you! 🌳 Oh! And I saw you had two or three cuttings that are planted in that pot, when you get ready to plant them in the ground, do you separate each cutting into its own spot, or plant them together?
@GardenTricks

You have to take cuttings of Little Gem Magnolia from the newly grown branches, a few months old. Just cut the top of new branch. You should take cuttings after the flowering finishes from the decidous magnolias You have to separate the rooted cuttings and plant them separately. Any further question?

Ideally it should be done in warmer months. But I have rooted cuttings of many plants during winter months indoors, even in heated rooms. If you try, ensure that humidity around the cutting is maintained, soil is not water logged and the cutting remains stables, does not move due to AC air draft. Good luck.

We have a magnolia tree, not very big, it has a canker about 1 yard, like 2 inches from the bottom and upward. Previous summer I applied ammonia from a spray bottle. Seems like it helped a bit, but this year there are some more rotten areas inside. I plan to continue with ammonia and try that idea, someone shared in comments about a torch, but I want to ask if that tree can be cured (if the canker is so big, only ~2.5 inches left to the other side of the trunk). Diameter of the trunk is ~7 inches. We recently bought the house with the tree. Thank you for the useful and informative film.
@GardenTricks
@GardenTricks 5 жыл бұрын
Canker is a fungal disease which may cause serious damage to the tree. Remove dead bark to dry out the diseased area. If possible prune infected part of the tree. Removal of the canker part of the tree is the only best treatment. In my citrus tree, I cut the branch well below the canker. Although there is no treatment of the canker, you can spray a dilute solution of chlorine bleach on the infected part. Spraying a copper fungicide is a preventive measure. Improve tree health. Avoid watering the foliage.

@@GardenTricks Unfortunately it is not possible to remove that part, since it goes like 3-4 inches from the ground level and it is about one yard long. I treated it yesterday with the torch flame and ammonia (I prefer ammonia vs bleach, since ammonia is good for plants, of course it should be diluted, but it will be diluted later naturally, I think). I only could clean inside by scrubbing out loose material, what I did. I hope that the treatment with torch flame might help. Looks like it is a new and none tried it yet. We'll see.

You can mix the river sand in the soil of the tree. @@notasin I have propagated many flower plants from cuttings, and many flowered in a few months. Many trees grown from seeds may take 15 years.

Is that sand you put in the compost ?
@GardenTricks
@GardenTricks 4 ай бұрын
It is the sand you find in river like bajari used in construction work, the idea is to make soil free-draining.

@GardenTricks thank you so much.. I have this and coco coir too which I think will keep moisture and allow for air to circulate. I will try both and just sand in another pot 🙏

@@SuperFlo8888 Try with any hormone. Take corse river sand or perlite as rooting medium, do not mix anything in it. This will reduce chances of stem rot. Recently, 7 out of 8 cuttings rooted using river sand.

Rumegușul este un deșeu rezultat din prelucrarea lemnului, cum ar fi tăierea, șlefuirea și frezarea. Este compus din așchii foarte mici de lemn. Sawdust is a waste from woodworking such as sawing, sanding, and milling. It is composed of very small chips of wood.

On Christmas Eve we had a tornado. It damaged my house and it destroyed my aunts house next-door, it brought down trees all around and threw them as far as 100 yards. Lightning struck my magnolia tree that has been there since my grandparents on this property it is over 100 years old and the lightning split it completely down the middle. Parts of it landed on my car and my Jeep that I was selling. I was most hurt by the damage to the tree. It lived! Tried to regrow on the most damaged side and the other side was blooming... Until this morning I woke up in and found that friends of the family had chopped it completely down because they were worried about the safety. They thought they were doing me a favor - they gave me so much help since this happened. I am absolutely devastated and I cannot even tell them. I took as many cuttings as I could and I am desperately trying to root the cuttings. I know there’s a high failure rate. I just pray and hope that she can live on through her seedlings 🌱 please wish me luck 🍀

Sorry to know about this very sad incident. Collect newly grown thin stems and try them rooting. Use a rooting hormone, if you have, otherwise use Aloe Vera gel or honey. My best wishes and Good Luck.

Hello, HELP PLEASE...my neighbor just pluck this baby very young cones from her beautiful magnolia tree. The cone section is about 1 and half inch and the stem part is also about 1 and half inch. I got it today this morning so it has only been about an hour. Right now, I have it soaked in nutrient solution to give it some thing while waiting. I tried to do a research on how to grow it or keep it alive but to no avail. So I am turning to an expert like you. Can I grow this thing? If I can, how?...PLEASE HELP!! I can send you a picture if you need it. Please respond before it died...lol. Thank you.

I am sorry to know about this. But I am afraid, they cannot be grown again as their size is too short. You need atleast one node to insert in soil. Sorry.
