I was thinking that as well. And also. How to stop and start new thread or join it? She his the first know. What do you do when you run out of thread? I'm brand new to sewing and quilting. I'm almost clueless. LOL

Sherri ~ thank you so much for posting this video. Now I have all of the binding processes in one place. I also enjoy completing my quilt's journey with hand binding, especially if it is being gifted. It's time when I can sit back and enjoy my piecing handiwork and also the wonderful quilting. I do send my quilts out to be quilted ~ but I am happy when they return home to be bound. Journey complete.

Stitching the place where your binding meets to miter is a great idea. I agree, it gives it a very glad and nice finished look. I’m going to try it. Tfs. 👏🏻💕👏🏻

Beautiful stitching! I really like the tip on stitching down the miter. I don't do a lot of quilting, more bag making but often with quilting cottons, and have been watching videos on binding as some patterns use a lot of binding. I know you see a LOT of machine binding but I personally just feel that both the front and back stitching never really end up that even. Hand work does take more time but I feel your results are basically perfect. Thanks again!

Thanks so much Sherri. Great tutorial! I've been enjoying your videos (and recently, Podcasts!) I've been machine binding mine, but have been wanting to learn this to put a special touch on my quilts. Plus, I'm ready to get away from the machine and get comfy on the sofa and hand stitch. 😀 thanks!!

Thank you for the tutorial......I usually just sew mine down because I am worried my hand stitching won’t hold up to the washing! I couldn’t see real well...but it looked like you were taking 2 bites of the fabric before bringing the needle up.....is that right?

How do you keep the stitches from coming loose as you're stitching? Whenever I'm doing this, my recent stitches come loose, and I have to keep pulling. Any chance you could get a real close closeup of the actual stitches? Thanks for your tutorial! As I watched the miter, I thought, "Wow... why couldn't I think of that!" Guess what I'll be doing... LOL

Thank you for showing this. Is there any way Billy can zoom in closer? It was hard to see. I just completed my first hand stitched binding. Needs help, but I have to start somewhere. I went around twice as I am afraid it will come out in the wash? How often do you wash tablerunners / potholds or quilts that you finish by hand? Thank you

You take a small stitch through the quilt but when you move to the next stitch do you hide the thread in the quilt sandwich, in the binding fold, or between the quilt top and binding fabric? That was difficult to see for sure.

So, what do you do when you get to the end of the thread? How do you join more thread? And are you going all the way through the quilt? It was hard to see what you were doing and to see the stitches from th3 camera angle.

I am curious why the stitches need to show at all. I usually put a stitch in the backing, and then right above I slide the needle into the binding and then back out about a quarter inch away. All of the stitches are then hidden either inside the binding or inside the backing. I have only seen people teach your way though, so I am wondering if there is a reason that I am missing. Also, your corner method does not secure the front of the miter. I just continue as usual up the miter, hiding the stitches as I go (only they are tiny - much smaller than a quarter inch). Then when you get to the corner, stab all the way through to the front of quilt right on the top edge of the miter. Then work your way down the front of the miter until you get to the inner corner of the binding. Stab your needle all the way through the quilt and out the back at the inner corner, then continue sewing as usual down the next side. All the stitches are hidden and your miters are secured on both sides.

It's absolutely nothing to do with your video, and all to do with my yucko attention span. Subscribed though because I can't wait to see more of your quilting videos because I'm a noob. 😊😉❤️
