Doug, fix the sub, mount the both facing each other, wire one in reverse, they'll suck and blow each other, blowing out the seems in your body panels, breaking the zip ties that hold the power wires, cracking the gas tank, arc against drive shaft and ignite the fumes. 🤘

I had a shop install a 13w7 in my mopar and they left the gain and bass boost at 100% so of course it fried the sub and after I got it warrantied they still didn’t change the settings and try to say it burnt up because I used a iPhone instead of CD’s. Lol I sent JL an Email and explained what there licensed dealer was doing and they replaced it again anyways so I tuned it myself before the put the cover on. $4000 dollar stereo and they screwed the amp to the brand new pro wedge box and had black take holding the wires they pieced together. I should have just got the stuff directly from JL and done it myself but figured since I was getting a better deal then buying direct I would just let them install it and save me the trouble and it ended up being twice the work and expense. Oh I had to pay the $50 shipping both times even though it was clearly there fault. I honestly don’t trust any stereo shop. Good thing JL ain’t a bunch of thieving skum bags like the authorized dealer in Somerset KY.

Hey Doug.. Try leaving the rear seats down and test. Should be better. The proximity of the ports to the seats change the port tuning... LOL your funny dude. Great vids. And your right. You can have that higher in the upper bass and still have the same low end.. But, Run Winisd graph windo in SP: mode at the top of the graph window. Now you can see the real difference between subs. It will apply the sensitivity spec in the mix. Now if the JL or the Focal has a higher sensitivity value. you will see that difference on the chart. Like if the focal has a higher db@1w spec. then it will be even higher on the chart. But if it is lower than the jl, then that is most likely why the focal is not as loud. But Id test without the seats up. I had seen in one vid you had a baby seat belted in back there. Could put 1 seat between the ports for the baby. Mags

Last I checked, JL doesn't offer a warranty on their W7s. I"m personally not a fan of them, for the price. I run DD 9912s with 5k each (M5 at .5).and they don't fail!

That happened to me with my 8w7AE on 600 watts RMS off a HD750/1 and an Audio Control Epicenter lol! Half the spider tore off the voice cool. It couldn't handle the excursion of the low frequencies. Got a used 12w7 on same amp and while my 8w7 gets repaired under warranty and so far it working good. Sort of feel like going with an SPL brand, I seem to like Heavy BASS vs SQ lol!

I spent all weekend working in a place that had an ADT alarm with the same door open chime as Doug's. I kept finding myself about to say "Can I help you?!" even when it was me going in and out. Doug has ruined me.

Bandpass boxes are hella efficient but they mask distortion and therefore extra caution is needed not to blow your subs. Doug has the benefit of having spare thirteens around though. LOL. I'm jealous

Put an oscilloscope across the sub wires at the amp and tune gain for below clipping. Your amp you said is 1500w and the sub is 2000w, so clipping may be the issue in burning the coils. I like to use more power than the woofers handle to get them to full power without being close to clipping. And its hard to hear if the sub is clipping with the seats are in the way. Mags

I bet the voice coil smells French...🤣 JL may have great SQ woofers but for the $ and power I've gone away to DC Sound Lab. After owning 4x12w6v2, 2x13w7 and sold all the rest of the JL line, I think DC makes a stronger sub at a much better price point. I've since had DC 2x LVL4XL15s and 12s and currently beat my LVL2 10s and I can honestly say, as long as the quality doesn't change, I won't buy anything else. Keep it the great work Doug!

The bad thing about band passes, you can stress the sub and not know it . they are so good at doing what they do that a hurt sub still sounds good.

Focal > JL Audio I wouldn’t know but still, you won’t see build quality like that very often.

Go with RE Audio. 2000rms per sub. Can go wrong. Easy redone if you try one. PSI makes a NICE redone kit for the RE Audio XXX-15s
